Kanlos hesitates for a long moment after hearing the description, listening to the others discuss what to do. Eventually, "I agree we should investigate. But I don't think we should steal anything inside or otherwise disturb anything if we can avoid it."
Windlass warily examines the green threads, more used to her deity but not turning down a helping hand. She follows, looking around for movement or traps.
Io sighs. Going into the cave seems like an unnecessary risk to him still but he isn't going to argue with the plans of the gods. He follows Xerronios and the green thread.

(Everyone give me an acrobatics or athletics check (dc 15) as you climb down, to see if you manage to get down without slipping on the ladder. if you fall you take 8 falling damage.)
Once in the chamber below only Xerronios sees the glowing green threads of his goddess settle on the golden holy symbol of Erebos. Those threads flare angerly in Xerronios's sight then fade away.

Before starting down, Xerronios uses his climbing kit to anchor a rope above the passageway and then tosses the rope down the hole. "We can use this to help us not fall," he says to the others. Then, muttering a quick request for assistance to Klothys, he starts down.
Athletics 10, if the rope gives advantage Athletics 18 + 1 (the roll from guidance, which I typed on the wrong side of the first athletics roll.

Xerronios stops, staring at the tableau before him. "No one touch the holy symbol. I don't know if you could see but the trail of threads ended on, not at, but ON the symbol which did not react well. I need to think," he says. The bard cum cleric studies the scene minutely for several moments, wondering why or how the augury could have produced this result. After a moment, he asks that very question, wanting other view points [i.e. requesting the Help action].

After that, he asks, "Can anyone else cast Detect Magic? If not, I'll do it, but it'll take 10 minutes. Or I could just try to identify the holy symbol. That will only take about a minute."
(If using a rope ignore the athletics/acrobatics check. Is not needed if a rope is involved.)
Xerronios, as you look at the holy symbol of another god, you understand that your goddess is displeased with something Erebos has done here. If you wish to identify the holy symbol of Erebos you will need to touch it. Detect magic would not require contact, but does take longer. What is everyone else doing during this?
After climbing down, Io will share his own religious knowledge to try and Help Xerrinos with his study of the Holy Symbol. He would offer, "If you need time to Detect Magic, I shall guard against undead."
At this point, Livilias has Owlie sitting upon his shoulder and if using the familiar's senses rather than his own. This allows him dark vision (is the cave dark? Yes, yes "dark abyss" so definitely looking through Owlie's eyes) and slightly better passive perception...
"I cannot detect such things but the mere fact that it is in such a state, and in such a place, makes me believe there is magic at play here," Livilias says in a hushed voice. As they approach the seated and crowned figure, Livilias uses his Eyes of the Grave feature - waiting until they are well within range.
At 1st level, you gain the ability to occasionally sense the presence of the undead, whose existence is an insult to the natural cycle of life. As an action, you can open your awareness to magically detect undead. Until the end of your next turn, you know the location of any undead within 60 feet of you that isn’t behind total cover and that isn’t protected from divination magic. This sense doesn’t tell you anything about a creature’s capabilities or identity.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once). You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
"Can you guard against the rising water level as well?" Livilias will ask hopefully? And he will try to figure out perhaps how long they may have before next high tide as best he can figure?
20 plus 2 for Investigation, Nature, Survival... Not sure what other roll it may be?
Windlass uses the rope to descend and offers to cast identify ritually if Xerrinos casts detect magic ritually. Before, she will cast protection from evil and good on herself to prevent any possession or charm before touching the symbol (and to start her arcane ward). As she does so, she prays to her deity Thassa, the goddess of the ocean and unknown depths.
"Thanks, Windlass, but I was hoping someone could Detect Magic without the ritual so we could know what kind of magic was in the item before we touched. I'm worried about the tide coming in. I will attempt to identify the holy symbol."
Xerronios moves to stand near the symbol. As a precaution, he casts Protection from Evil and Good on himself and then reaches out and touches the item, attempting to identify it and any magic it has.
Kanlos follows the others down the rope and ladder. Once down there, he allows those more magically inclined to investigate the figure on its throne and its holy symbol, meanwhile he lights his lantern and begins a careful search of the rest of the cavern.
"I can also cast it norma--"Windlass says, and then pauses as Xerronios casts it himself. She then casts detect magic to gain insight about the magical effects and items in the cave, moving slowly abou.
Livilias You would sense that the figure is undead, as soon as you call upon this power.
Windlass, are you casting detect magic as a ritual or using a slot?
Kanlos, you start searching the chamber, but quickly find the only things of interest are the body, the holy symbol, and the chair the figure sits upon. (The chair has nothing special on it, it is just there.)
Xerronios As you touch the symbol the figure holding it comes to life and strikes out at you. (Not going to be a surprise round as you had to all half-expect this...) You would be able to sense, through the casting of identify, that the holy symbol is non-magical.

Steal is such a harsh word, Livilias thinks to himself. Re-own is much more appropriate.
Without a word, Livilias re-directs Owlie to return from the cave and to follow this green strand along with the rest of the party...
Xerronios gets to his feet and quickly gathers his things. Then he begins following the green threads.
