Approaching hte alter you take a good look at the mask. This golden Returned mask is engraved with a facial expression that looks simultaneously joyful and suffering. You sense moderate magic from it and would recognize it as a magic item with ease.
Windlass
You sense moderate Necrotic magic coming from the Mask. As you identify it you learn the following... While wearing this mask, you learn the knowledge of the dead and gain your choice of either proficiency in two skills or expertise in two skills you are already proficient in. You can change the skills chosen at dawn.
Kanlos looks at the mask with distaste, "Powerful, perhaps, but I don't know that it would be right to use such a thing."
Xerronios looks at his friend. "What would be the reason not to use it? I will happily take it...after using magic to identify any possible curse on it, of course."
(And, to be truthful, it only defies one of the gods. Two others very much dislike returned, while most of the others either are uncaring, or, in a couple instances, quite willing to help get more returned.)
Io is going to go over to the human corpses and place coins in their mouths. Once done, he stands up and not looking at the party, says regarding the mask, "If Xerrinos wants the mask, let him take it. Athreos doesn't like Return Masks but he is not a worshiper of Athreos. For better or for worse, if we have come this far today, letting one of our companions who is a follower of one of Athreos' fellow gods would do us no more harm."
((Including Markos, how many bodies are there? Asking so I can subtract gold/silver)
Xerronios nods and retrieves the mask. "I respect your concerns, friends, and thanks for confiding them. But, while the mask is in the style of those worn by The Returned, it need not be just that. I will put it to good use."
He picks up the mask and puts in his pack for later examination.
Xerronios You pick up the mask. It has the tell-tale feel of something magical as you handle it.
The bard resolves to use his magic to learn all the mask has to tell him, as soon as he has time. Then he moves to the corpses, included the mad necromancer.
"Fates journey has ended for you all. May you know peace in the next world." He then folds their arms over their chests, placing a silver coin in each hand. Turning to the others, he says, "I believe we're done here, my friends."
Windlass nods briefly, displaying patience. "Katina back at the town will likely wish to know about what happened. We should depart."She looks for any small unique-but-mundane piece of the altar for the priest to examine and prepares to go.

Ok, combat is over, what are you doing? Anything prior to heading back to town? Anyone checking out the fancy mask on the alter?
Xerronios moves to the altar, to examine it and the mask.

"It is of the Returned, it was created through the defiance of the gods."
"And you know this how?" queries the bard.

(And, to be truthful, it only defies one of the gods. Two others very much dislike returned, while most of the others either are uncaring, or, in a couple instances, quite willing to help get more returned.)
(It is easily recognizable as a Returned mask, right?)
(Yes it is definitely a returned mask.)
What are we doing? Leave the mask, take it with, use it, what? Anything else here or do we head back to town?
Io is going to go over to the human corpses and place coins in their mouths. Kanlos nods and helps Io place coins in the bodies, he won't touch the mask, but won't prevent anyone else from claiming it if they choose to do so.
Xerronios nods and retrieves the mask. "I respect your concerns, friends, and thanks for confiding them. But, while the mask is in the style of those worn by The Returned, it need not be just that. I will put it to good use."

Windlass nods, frowning at the mask but not objecting. Her curiosity is piqued as well.
Does this seem to be the only remaining item or area of interest before returning?
Io/Kanlos
There are a total of 16 bodies in the chamber.

There appears to be no other areas of concern around here. Likely the next objective will be to return to the port town.
Io places a small pouch of 10 silver in each corpse' mouth. Totals 120 SP (12 GP in silver)
