When you identify the mask you learn... While wearing this mask, you learn the knowledge of the dead and gain your choice of either proficiency in two skills or expertise in two skills you are already proficient in. You can change the skills chosen at dawn.
Windlass
The alter is all of a piece. You would have to break it to be able to take a piece of it with you. As it is an alter to Erebos, I think a couple of your companions will resist any attempt to break it...
These passages have been here for some time, and will likely be here for some time to come. Without some way to do a tremendous amount of damage (think tnt-type damage,) there is no good way to cause a collapse.
Back to the Port
The trip back to the port town is uneventful. Katina awaits you at the inn and smiles in obvious relief to see you all whole. "I prayed you would make it back here in one piece." She says with a grin. "How did your look into the cave go?"
Kanlos shakes his head and gives a slight shrug, "Hard to give a good answer to that. We found a priest of Erebos who was trying to turn the dead of your island into his warriors to slaughter the Returned, and the rest of you for sheltering them. We attempted to dissuade him, but he forced us to slay him instead."
"It is sad." She says with a nod. "We do not make these returned, but meerly give them a haven to live out what lives they have. They are meerly lost souls that have returned. We do not attempt to make more, or to hide them if a god truly wishes them returned to their rest, all we do is give them a place to live what lives they can, while in this realm." She sighs. "I will send people to the cave, to reclaim any bodies that are there." She tells the group. "Is there anything else I can do for you?" She looks over the equipment each of you wear. "I can tell you we have an enchanter that lives on this island. They can enchant an item for you if you wish, adding a magical property to a normal item, if that is of interest to you."
Kanlos's attention immediately perks up, "That could be very helpful, especially given how dangerous our mission is and how much more so it is likely to get from here."
The Enchanter can add 1 uncommon enchantment to any weapon, armor, or other gear. They will do one for each of you for free, and you can pay 200 gp to add on others. It takes 1 extra day for each 4 enchantments you want over the base of one apiece. They can get the base number done by the next morning.
If a +1 to Armor is an uncommon enchantment, Io would like to turn his Plate into Plate +1
OOC: unfortunately +1 armor is rare. 😞 I know what Xerronios would like. Just need to know if “uncommon enchantment” means uncommon magic items from DMG.

On their way out, Kanlos will keep an eye out for any possible way to collapse the cave safely behind them, just in case.

Io is a bit checked out in the conversation. There's a lot on his mind at the moment.
Kanlos shakes his head and gives a slight shrug, "Hard to give a good answer to that. Xerronios nods. "That's what happened," he confirms.

Xerronios nods as well. "What would that cost us? It could be helpful indeed!"
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Windlass nods eagerly. "That would be excellent. Does this enchanter work fast? And, friends, what is our timetable again?"
Kanlos shrugs to Windlass's question, "That's up to the captain, I suppose."

ooc: To be clear, what would constitute an uncommon enchantment? Anything that's uncommon in the DMG, for instance?
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Kanlos would be happy to take his bow to the enchanter to be improved (+1) but doesn't really need any other weapons improved at the moment.
If a +1 to Armor is an uncommon enchantment, Io would like to turn his Plate into Plate +1
Would Windlass be able to turn her spellcasting focus wand into a wand of the war mage? If not, she'd be happy with a +1 shield.
OOC: unfortunately +1 armor is rare. 😞 I know what Xerronios would like. Just need to know if “uncommon enchantment” means uncommon magic items from DMG.
Tandor the White, Human Life Cleric
Okay then a +1 Shield would be nice. That's uncommon right.
Yes

And so is a Cloak of Protection, which also grants +1 to saving throws
