Before getting out of the rowboat, Kanlos would whisper his suspicions to the rowers and ask them to head back to the Proud Jester and have the others to be ready.
As they stand over the ladder, he'll put away his bow, draw his rapier and politely stand off to one side, "I may not know much about ships, but it is similar to a home, and it would be very rude for us to enter ahead of the host. Please, lead the way with your men here, but be ready to stand aside from the paths of our blades when we locate your threat."
Io is quite certain this is a trap and does not want to go down. He can take on pirates in a fair fight but being trapped in the cellar is not a good situation. He lightly swings his warhammer to rest over his shoulder as he stands to one side of the door. He agrees with Kanlos, "Agreed. One must never forget about etiquette. Please lead the way captain."
Ritha stops and steps to the side a bit. “This is your ship after all, blessed for its voyage by the gods themselves. Surely you would not leave the fate of such a precious thing in the hands of strangers alone,“ Ritha observes. „Come, let us work together. We shall defend you from harm, and you can bring glory to your patron without shame.“
Murmuring a prayer of blessing, Ritha casts guidance on herself.
Kassiopeia... (Sorry missed this one last night...)
You too would realize something is indeed fishy about this other ship's request. You very much doubt if they are telling the truth and are quite sure this is some sort of ruse to get you aboard their ship.
As far as Rhordon goes, you would just get the sense he believes the merchant. The idea of dealing with some creature fits his martial nature as well.
For Spyro, you simply cannot get a read on him.
Xerronios...
"It be quite big, with scales and teeth." The merchant says with a glance to his two companions. They both nod their agreement. "Thing came aboard during the night ye see, so none of us be getting a good look at it. Be just shutting it down below decks, and camping out up here since then."
Io and Kanlos...
"Do ye no know the ways of ships?" The merchant asks with a frown. "I no be able to leave the upper deck unmanned, we could bash into yer own ship if no one be up here to man the wheel..." He nods to his two rough-looking companions. "These two will go with ye if ye wish, but I no be wanting to lose em to the critter, or else ye be going to have to help me sail the Sinful Devil back to harbor."
You would get the impression this last was easily the most truthful thing the merchant had said since the ships met. He seems quite honest that someone has to man the wheel.
Io decides to test something. He says to the captain, "So you said you trapped the creature down there? I must say that it is impressive you've done that. How did you manage to trap it down there?" However he says this in Leonin instead of common, to test and see if the Captain can understand him.
The merchant just stares at you for a bit, then shrugs. "Not sure if that were meant for meself, but I don't understand your language..."
Everyone...
The two ruffians share a nod, then move to the ladder down. Climbing down, they wait for you at the bottom of the ladder. I assume everyone is going down, but let me know the order. Kassiopeia is going last from the sounds of it, so who is first? It is dark in the hold, no lights seem to have been lit down there.
ooc: Xerronios is not really a front-line fighter so he'd likely hang back a bit as well. Also, if he attacks with a light weapon, can his claw attack be considered light for purposes of 2 attacks?
Io nods at the captain and then speaks to whoever in the group understands Leonin ((so Spyro and Xerronios))
He says in Leonin to the group:
"Look, it's very obvious this is a trap. I think some of us should stay behind in case the captain tries something. I think he would try and close the door on us. I will go down there and I think one more person should go down there with me. If it's an ambush, which I'm certain it is, I will scream really loudly. What do you think?"
Ritha, quite sure this is some type of trap despite not understanding Io‘s words, nods. „I shall go first,“ she says, readying herself to dodge whatever she is walking into.
Io seeing Ritha agreeing to go first continues in Leonin, "So, Ritha and I will go down and the rest should stay up. Does that sound like a good plan?"
"I can stay up top as well I suppose" Spryo would reply in leonin. He would then pull out his pipe and smoke a few more puffs with one hand while sliding his other hand into the pocket of his trenchcoat.
"Maybe we could play a little tune while the others take care of that creature" Spyro would say as he puts away his pipe and lifts his pan flute to his lips. He would keep one hand in his pocket.. holding what appeared to be a rod of sorts... Consisting of a single polished bone with scrimshaw of what appeared to be a violent sea storm destroying a ship scrawled across it with iron bands across the top and bottom. "What do ya say there Xerronios, should we treat these poor merchants to a tune while we wait for the old "ALL CLEAR" from our friends?"
The bard nods thoughtfully, though he doesn't sheath his weapon. "Sure," he replies with a sharp-toothed grin. "I think I'll just sing, though, in case the monster gets past our friends."
He begins singing a war chant, popular with his fellow Leonine, one about overcoming long odds and defeating an evil force.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Xerronios... (Yes we will consider his claws a light weapon for that purpose.)
Kassiopeia , Spryo, and Xerronios...
"Wise choice ye made there." The merchant says with a grin for you three. "A bit too yellow-belly to go down there with yer friends..." He chuckles, clearly seeing you as the least dangerous of the group due to this. He glances to the Proud Jester from time to time,w here you would notice the officers and crew paying close attention to what happens aboard the Sinful Devil. The ships are still fairly close, despite the merchant's attempt to let his drift a bit away.
When it is clear you are not joining your companions,t he merchant lifts a foot and stomps down on the deck quite hard. You three would hear the sound of some falling items from below-deck.
Io, Ritha, and Kanlos...
Entering the hold you find yourself at the front of the ship, with the dark hold leading off towards the aft. Your view of much of the hold is blocked by stacked crates though, with a small passage illuminated by the warhammer's light spell.
"Critter be back there..." The bigger of the two ruffians says, nodding towards the area beyond the crates. He and his companion have moved back into the small area between the ladder and the front of the ship. They are eyeing you nervously.
Kanlos would hear noises from beyond the crates, as would likely both Io and Ritha.
Only a momentary pause is given, as it becomes clear the other three of your party are not joining you, then a loud thump comes from overhead. Immediately the top crates are pushed forward, and several bandits stand up with drawn crossbows from behind them.
Everyone...
Roll initiative. The map is in the next post. I do not have those on the upper deckon this map, they will be using theater of the mind for this encounter unless they enter the hold area.

(With a Crit Fail, Kass thinks Spyro is a pirate too working an inside job ;) :D Spyro is actually just trying to impress Yanna :D)

Kassiopeia slowly moves to the back of the group and casts light on her shield (duration 1 h).
"I'll stay in the back if you don't mind."
