One of the main leaders of the 'nicer' land owners is the general store owner, who has their store just a few blocks from the docks. Finding the store is easy enough, and Nona gives you a smile of welcome as you enter. She is an older woman, with graying hair and a friendly face. Seeing the group she waves her workers away as you approach her. "Please go in back and see about unpacking those last crates we have of supplies." She tells the workers as they move away from her. "We need to make room for tomorrow's new arrivals..." She then turns to Io and the rest of you. "How may I help you?" Her tone is reserved though, as she seems a bit nervous.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Xerronios steps forward, his voice soothing, calming. Seeming absentmindedly, he strums a soothing tune on his lyre. "When we spoke at Besos manor, you seemed sympathetic to the concerns of the workers, less happy with what has happened and the current situation. If that is so, there may be some people it would profit everyone for you to speak with, you and the other landowners who are of similar mind. Would you be willing to speak with these people?"
"And who would these people be?" She asks with a narrowing of her eyes. She looks over the group and seems to make a decision. "You are new to the island. Yet you expect to come in and start making great and sweeping changes in a day. I am guessing I know whom you want me to talk to... Khloë would be my guess. If that is so, then know I speak to her most days, and am in agreement with her in many things. I have even spoken to Bésios about this, but he has no desire to change. Until something happens to force him to change, I fear there is little myself, or those like me, can do here to help out more than we currently do. Short of armed conflict Bésios is the ruler of this island."
Io states, "If Besios and those like him do not change their ways and repent to Athreos, things will not end well. The River Guide is very displeased. There are souls here who are unable to move on as they were left to die without any proper means of arranging for funerals or paying respects to the River Guide. If things do not change, the wrath of the gods will be staggering."
Xerronios nods vigorous agreement. "Well, said Io. And perhaps more staggering this time than the last time, my Lady. The needs of Fate align with the wrath of the River God. For your own sake, and that of your loved ones, it is perhaps time for something other than words. I know you know what happened the last time. Doubt not the gods spoke then, as well. Do you want to hear them speak again?"
"Again, unless you want us to attempt civil war, there is little we can do here." The woman says with a sad smile for the group. "I have no doubt the gods are displeased with many of the land owners here, and hope that the little some of us can do is seen and known by them. If something changes, and a chance comes for us to lend our weight in some manner, know that we will do so eagerly enough. We just do not have the strength of arms, or of political weight, to do anything without some other catalyst making way for action."
Ritha asks for Thassa's guidance, before speaking to the woman.
"Thassa brings her blessings to those who affect change. Those who believe in it, and try to work for it, have the power to bring it about. Alone, you may feel powerless. But you are not alone. Besios's wall of corruption and heresy was built upon many stones in this town. He could not commit such atrocities alone, and even if you disagree with him, to remain silent is to condone his, and the others' actions.
But each stone that chips away at his rotten foundation brings about a greater likelihood that his wall will crumble. The gods pressure this wall from above, and one way or the other, it will eventually crumble. You know true prosperity can't be built upon the blood of innocent sacrifice. If you turn your eyes away from this, it will only happen again one day. Please, help us, find others who can help us, and chip away at his foundation. Or remain a part of it, and when this wall does finally crumble, risk being crushed yourself by the Gods' wrath. Each and every one of you are more important than you think."
Kanlos holds up his hands to his companions, "She's told us what she's capable of, and what we need to do. Pushing her further won't help us any. Perhaps there is something you could help us with. What can you tell us about those who lead their armed forces?"
"Thugs you mean." Nona says with a snort. "Brigands, pirates, and brawlers all. He's got enough that the rest of us can't do much but follow where he leads, not without getting tossed into the sea ourselves." She glances to Ritha. "As I told your companions already, if you can do something to make his wall crumble, then we'll be there to help rebuild a better one, but, until something changes, we do not have the power to do anything." She then looks you over as a group. "Maybe you are the answer to our own prayers, and you are what we have done to help change this... We have been sending prayers out ourselves after all." She looks again to Ritha. "Now, please, stop badgering an old lady and either purchase some of my goods or head out to do something about all of this." She gives a smile to show she is not truly upset, just without anything more to say.
Io felt like still trying fear tactics but he felt like such prophesies of doom would only make the nobles more aggressive rather than fearful. Such people tend to sooner take refuge in their delusions of invincibility rather than face the grim reality of imminent doom. So he decides to back to the ship as well and prey to Athreos for luck in what they were about to do and to ask him for more clarity of mind so he can truly find the best solution to this situation.
Kanlos will rest as best he can, praying to Athreos, asking him to send dreams of the fate of the souls left behind to the thugs employed by the nobles to give them little rest that day and night and weaken their will for the combat that may come, all so that they can help these lost souls find their rest.

"The gods do work in mysterious ways," Ritha answers with a smile, handing over a few coins to restock her crossbow quiver fully.
Xerronios moves through the shop, picking up a jar of some jam and a new belt knife to replace one he'd lost in dicing with the sailors.

Kanlos bows politely and heads back to the ship to try and get some rest before this evening.
Everyone ready to move along? Back to ship to rest up, or something else?
Ritha takes some time to return to the ship and inform the captain of the "situation" on the ground being created by Besios.

Who is taking what shifts for the overnight vigil?
Xerronios volunteers for the first shirt.
