Kanlos nods his agreement to Xerronios's and Io's words, "As they said, the gods allow us our free will, to choose to honor, to offend, or to ignore. But our actions have consequences, as the former pirate's situation demonstrated. Is an unlocked door an offer for theft? Or will the owner still have you punished for your crime? If you wish to take anything from the ship, ask Erebos and ask the captain for permission first. I will take nothing."
"Friends, friends, friends... All this worry about gods and their fickle follies. You try to praise one, you offend another. You follow the dictates of one and another finds it a slight to their nature. Just now, we ourselves down there... We foiled Erebus because what? This one's goddess made something glow?" Livilias says, nodding his head annoyedly at Xerronios. "That somehow made it all just and safe?"
The Satyr barks out a laugh in a scoff of derision. "The problem is that those who follow the gods can interpret things however they wish... But fine... fine... My friend... You think I should ask Erebus permission to pick amongst the gifts he has strewn about for us to find? Sorry, but I ask permission of no god for anything. But perhaps this will placate your concerns...."
Livilias walks a half dozen paces away from the others. Three globes of light appears and start swirling around his body, a soft musical melody is heard upon the air, Livilias thrusts his arms out and then up into the sky shouting, in a loud and booming voice "Erebus! I go now to claim the gifts you have left! I go to claim the items of death and destruction so that I can use them against my enemies and send more to your dominion! Stop me if you wish, or let my path be unobstructed if you choose..."
(( Dancing Lights, Prestidigitation and Thaumaturgy all used to put on a dramatic show for the others... ))
With that over, Livilias turns towards the ship in question and strides off to claim his plunder...
Xerronios watches the annoying satyr walk away, not caring if Erebos chose to let him take or not, but definitely not appreciating his lack of respect for the thoughts and wishes and beliefs of the people who would be his companions.
Windlass speaks up after communing with her deity. "It could be vey bad to take something from that ship. The other plunder, the casks, should be fine. But that ship has the eye of a god on it. There are risks, and there are risks. I would like some of the things there, but I will take care and leave them be."
She does ask her goddess in silent communion, however, "If you would like, I will take the ring and the staff and suffer the consequences..."
Kanlos shakes his head and moves back towards the ship, not caring to stop the foolish satyr, but wanting no part in his acts. As he moves off, he calls over his shoulder, "I will not stop you from bringing Erebos's wrath upon yourself, but I doubt the captain will allow you on board after having done so. I know I have no interest in traveling with someone so foolish as to risk the lives of those around them over petty greed."
An eclipse suddenly blocks out the sun, dropping you all into darkness. In that darkness words can be heard, sounding like clinking coins. "All who steal what is mine shall one-day, sooner than they would normally expect, come to be judged in my halls..."
It is no more than a moment or two that the eclipse stays, but the meaning is clear to all. If you touch what belongs to the god of the dead, you will be shown to his domain much quicker than otherwise.
Xerronios smiles, already trying to work the announcement into a ballad about the island, as he follows Io and Kanlos to the boat. "Well, that was certainly dramatic," he says.
Livilias ignores the darkened sky and the tinkling words, reacting to them in no way whatsoever. ((Deception 12 )) He does turn at the words of Kanlos though, pauses for a moment and then gives all in that direction a slight bow of acknowledgment.
"Well, my friends, it seems the decision is made," Livilias says as he straightens himself and then fusses with his clothes a bit. "Perhaps we shall cross paths again one day, perhaps not. I do value our meeting though and wish you a fair voyage, even though it be denied to me. Live well, my friends. Live your own lives. Don't allow yourself to be too much of a pawn for the others, eh?" And with a friendly wave, Livilias turns his back to the others and allows a series of Mirthful Leaps to take him away from there and towards the ship and it's riches. There are more ways off an island than theirs...
((It has been fun all... But from his very creation Livilias was an Iconoclast who refused to show the gods any reverence. He also had a vein of jealousy and vengeance about him. These two core parts of his otherwise friendly and affable nature, I do not feel, would allow him to pass up these treasures at hand. Not with there being no other danger on the island for him to need help with... If these magics do not give him a way off the island, surely another ship will come close enough to contact...
Of course, the longer Livilias is stranded on this desert isle, the more that jealous and vengeful vein will grow... I fully invite DragonDenn to bring back Livilias in the future as an NPC for you all to cross. I could see him being perhaps not outright evil but definitely want to stand in the way of your goals just out of spite. Or, perhaps, Livilias should have listened to the signs and the undead will claim him long before then. Life is life. But in his life, Livilias bows to no god...
Enjoy the game! It was fun visiting you all on Theros for a while!))
The remainder of you take the row boat back out, and meet up with the Proud Jester. Gnorcys has you fill her in on what you found on the island, and frowns as she hears about the fact someone stayed behind to loot a ship belonging to the god of death.
"That is bad business, I am certain they will regret that choice." She glances off towards the island. "For now though, I suggest we get away from here, prior to the hand that turned that island upside down, deciding to turn it upright again..."
"He was a very fun, very odd person to meet as a fellow castaway,"Windlass says. "Thank you for allowing me to accompany you. You have seen some my capabilities. I would like to learn more of your next priorities and goals. And the current assets and liabilities. I possess few, in both categories."
Io would have explained the mission to the new member of the team but he decides to let the ship captain and the others catch Windlass up. He figured that his goals for being on this journey was quite a bit different from everyone else's goals and so he may not be the best person to explain. Instead he returns to his cabin to pray to Athreos asking for clarity of mind and wondering if what he did on that island from freeing the revenant and destroying the holy symbol to letting the other castaway stay and not forcefully bring them on the ship. He did what he thought was best at the time but he was still not quite sure if that was the right thing to do.
Kanlos sighs and retreats to his bunk, eager to put the island and its happenings behind him, but knowing that they will simply join the nightmares that already plague him.
Xerronios shakes his head. "You all know I, like all my people, are not as...reverent as other, but there is being independent and then there is being foolish. He was foolish and would have endangered all of us, if not now, then later. I, for one, am glad to leave him to the tender mercies of Erebos. Now, if you'll excuse me, I want to write down what happened while it's fresh. This should make a great ballad."
The bard returns to his quarters, takes out his lute, parchment, pen and begins to jot the details of the journey down. Occasionally, he stops and makes a musical note on the side while playing a bit on the lute.
Gnorcys is a female triton. She is a shorter individual with scales that range from a medium blue to a dark purple. Her crest is flared up and back, more purple than blue. She has ice-blue eyes that seem to look deep into your soul. She wears only a set of studded leather for protection.
Turning to Windlass Gnorcys gives you a smile. "Welcome aboard, I am certain you will fit in nicely here, among my crew." She glances to the others, as they leave to return to their rooms aboard ship. She fills you in on the information in the spoiler below.
"The riches rumored to be held by the ship are legendary, and have been sought after through the ages by sea faring adventurers of all stripes." She informs you at the end of her details. "We seek it for those riches, but also as I am called by Thassa herself to find the ship."
Here is where I am thinking of taking this... The Callapheia chronicles the legendary story of Callaphe, captain of The Monsoon, whose wild adventures pitted her against all manner of pirates and sea monsters. It is about the exploits of a single mortal hero, Callaphe the Mariner, who snuck into Mount Velus and stole Purphoros’s tears, hid behind Phenax and wrote down his secrets, and raced Thassa at the edge of the world before sailing into Nyx. Known as the greatest mariner who ever lived, Callaphe was a human trickster from Meletis who sailed a ship called The Monsoon. She was the first mortal to decipher the secret patterns of the winds (provoking Thassa’s ire), and she sailed over the edge of the world and into Nyx to claim her place among the stars. The tales of her adventures are a mythic tour of the Dakra Isles and the coastlands of Theros, describing a panoply of creatures, nations, and marvelous phenomena—some of which still exist as described in its verses, though others are lost to history or myth. One of the stories in the chronicle tell of Ketaphos... Famed for its role in The Callapheia, the island of Ketaphos supposedly exists in Nyx during the night and in the mortal realm during the day. Callaphe and her crew were welcomed there and fed by a band of Nyxborn centaurs when a storm drove them to the island, then found themselves stranded on a barren rock when the sun rose and the island shifted to the mortal realm. Another story tells... The Callapheia tells the story of how Callaphe, was thrown from her ship into the wine-dark sea and was rescued by tritons. Her lost vessel drifted to Navagos, taken by deep-dwelling Thassa as a treasured memento of the beloved mariner.
The next four days of travel sees you sailing through calm seas with a good wind to sail with. Nothing bothers the Proud Jestor, and the crew and ship have no troubles. Around midday on the 4th day you spot an island ahead, the lookout, Misty currently - with Kanlos aiding her, are the ones who spot the island ahead.
As you come closer the island appears to be a land rich with natural resources, and with farms and a few villages scattered throughout. Smoke rises lazily from chimneies. A port is available on one side of the island and Gnorcys has the ship steer towards it.
"We have need of supplies." Gnorcys informs you. "We will let you go ashore first, to make sure it is truly as safe as it looks, but we do require supplies from here, before we sail onward."
The quiet of 4 days would have been something Io would have welcomed if it was in his younger days. For him though, the longer he spent uneventfully, the more concerned he was of losing the trail of the Medusa he was hunting. It goes without saying then that he was quite pleased when he saw the island village as the ship started move toward it. This could be a chance to see if his target had passed through here.
