Following the group Senna chases after the beast as it is being grabbed by a few others. She will move to a nearby spot just out of reach for the creature and wave her hand back May the fire overwelm you!
Moving her hand forward she flings a small ball of fire like a bowling ball with an underhand throw toward the creature being carefull not to hit the others.
Movement: following the creature but staying 10ft away from it Action: cast another Fire Bolt (need to get some other offensive spells soon :) ) Attack: 6 Damage: 1, wow.. at least Garcis got a hit with his double nat1..
Eve readies her magic to strike as Kaseon mocks the creature again and Kanithar runs in to grab the boar man in a powerful bearhug. With the half-orc holding steadfast to the beast's upper body and Ridley hanging on to it's legs, it has nowhere to go as Garcis snatches up the rapier and lunges forward stabbing the weapon up through it's chin and exiting out of it's skull. It staggers back sluggishly and it's legs fold up underneath as it falls to the ground lifeless.
As if on cue, lightning strikes nearby and a loud peal of thunder echoes around you. Everyone stares silent for a moment at the creature on the ground as the flesh and bone twist slowly becoming more human every moment. Guards and townsfolk nearby slowly crowd in to look at the man lying in the mud as the rain continues to fall around you. The mayor stands up slowly and comes over, looking down on the body for a long moment before speaking. "Not yet a full day in town and we are already indebted to you. You are welcome to come to my home and dry off, and we can see to the wounded, unless you prefer to go back to the Inn."
Everyone:
Congratulations, you are all now level 2, please adjust your characters accordingly. :)
With the boar-man falling dead and the words of the mayor fresh in his ears, Edge suddenly notices just how very wet from the rain he is. He shakes his arms and legs and then his whole body but it doesn't help much. His shoulders slump. He looks miserable.
"Edge want dry off first," he says. "Mayor home very good."
Then he looks around at the rest of the group, looking to see if anyone needs help.
Weary from the battle Senna sighs in relief that it is over. Is anyone in need of urgent healing? she asks.
She looks around to where the lightning just struck I think i could use some rest, i will go get some sleep.Senna walks towards the unconcious woman first to see if she is alright, trying to wake her.
Kaseon groans as he rejoins the others, “I should be fine for the evening, but it certainly hurts. Well, at least we know we can work together in a fight fairly well, though I hope not everything around here is immune to normal weapons like that. Senna, why don’t I help you there and then I’ll walk you back to the inn, I’ll rejoin the rest of you shortly.”
Eve let’s the eldritch energy she’d been holding back dissipate with some relief. And she stands there in the street for a second, wet from the rain and covered in mud and blood, breathing heavily... trying to get it straight in her head what had just happened.
((Her bone and bramble wall shimmers and fades))
She hears people talking about wounds, and the unconscious woman, and going to each other’s aid.... She hears the mayor talking about rest and cleaning up...
But Eve just walks slowly and directly over to Ridley. She drops to one knee between her and the monster, and says, “You knew this beast? This, person? ..thing?... You’ve seen them.. it.. before?!”. She looks at it for a second, then asks, pointing, “Those neck wounds... Those are not new... ... ...Had you.. 'killed' ..this thing before?...”. She looks at it again, with distaste, and says finally, sadly, “...Do we need to burn the body??”.
Senna will respond to Kaseon Thank you thats very kind of you. With Kaseon's aid she will try to wake up the woman and help her to her feet.
After that they will walk to her room, not having the energy to continue for a celebratory drink. Kaseon might notice Senna's wounds do cause her pain but she tries to hide it as best she can. Being part of a military group like the Order of the Gauntlet she has clearly been raised to not be fussy about getting hurt and keeping up appearances.
As they reach her room, Kaseon will lean in and whisper quietly to Senna, "I understand the importance of keeping up appearances, and I agree that its important to do so in front of the villagers, but remember, we're a team now. And a team works best when we know each other well and communicate both our strengths and our flaws. Speaking of, perhaps tomorrow we should set aside some time for the group of us to meet away from the others for a conversation, what do you think?"
Ridley nods at Eve, "Let's go get dried off and I'll explain what that was all about ok?"
As Senna walks over to the woman on the ground, she finds her looking much more healthy, the torrent of rain having washed most of the blood away. She wakes at your touch and slowly rises, the Mayor running over to help her up. "Ahnna, are you well?"
She leans against him, shivering from the cold and wet rain, weary from the wounds, the bloodloss, the healing energy repairing her body. "Father, I.... I f-felt my life slipping away...I c-could have... d-died..." She turns to look at Senna and recalls the life saving spell she cast and begins to cry, "Thank you, I owe you my life." She embraces Senna in a tight hug before leaning against her father and walking towards home.
Those who follow the Mayor back to his home find it is a very short walk away. Tucked in between several other homes in the process of being built is a fully constructed, moderately large two story home. Some of the guards that had gathered during the fight follow and attempt to station themselves outside the front door of his home, but he ushers them inside to dry their clothing, armor and weapons first. Ahnna bids her father goodnight and leaves for her bedroom upstairs for the night and Mayor Hulmar leaves the guards in the front room of his house and takes those that didn't go to the inn to a large den in the back of the house. The room is plushly decorated with comfortable couches and a large fireplace on one end that he immediately begins building a fire in. The walls are adorned with various trophy animal heads and weapons ranging from smaller swords and axes to much larger two handed versions ending with a greatsword with intricate runes carved into its black blade hanging over the fireplace mantle. After the fire is built he opens a side door to pull out several blankets and cloths to dry off and warm up with, handing them out to everyone.
Garcis moves to pull the rapier out of the now dead boarman, holding it with interest before going to hand it over to the ranger. Once she takes it he will move to grab his weapons, quickly following the others to the home of the mayor.
As Eve speaks with Ridley about the monster, and is hopefully reassured that the beast is definitely no longer a threat, Garcis approaches. And he returns the sword that dealt the killing blow.
Eve puts a hand on the Kobold’s shoulder, giving it a little squeeze saying, “Nicely done!”. She gives him a genuine smile and a nod.
She turns to see the Mayor and his Daughter thanking Senna. The daughter throws her arms around Senna’s shoulders crying with thanks and joy... Eve can’t remember the last time someone cried in delight and thanked her like that. She’s not sure it’s ever happened. Her particular skillset doesn’t seem to provoke that kind of response. She’s use to it...
Eve walks with Garcis, and with the others, back to the Mayor’s house. Before entering, she stops outside and wrings the worst of the rain out of her hair. She leaves her boots just inside the door. Inside, she sits on the floor with her back to the fire. Closer than most people would feel comfortable.
She takes her wet jacket off, and sits quietly by the fire in her dark, cotton blouse, with her knees pulled up under her chin.
Out of her studded leather jacket and boots, and sat by the fire like that, she looks a lot younger than she did a moment ago.
The guards in the front room answer the door and point Kaseon towards the den in the back before returning to the task of drying out their clothes and armor.
While Mayor Hulmar is making sure everyone is drying off and comfortable, Ridley takes a thick cloth and begins toweling Judge off while checking him over for any wounds he might have taken during the fight and then begins drying herself as well. "So to answer your questions, I didn't 'know' that guy, but we fought once before when he attacked me in the Ashenwood forest. It was a bit after I first arrived here and I was escorting some hunters to gather meat and pelts for the town. I almost had him, hence the neck scars, but he sent several boars after the hunters at the edge of the forest. There were only two with me that day, and the boars would have overwhelmed them, so I ran to intercept and he got away. He didn't come back from the dead or anything, lycanthropes are just super tough to kill without silver or magic."
Mayor Hulmar makes it to Kanithar and places a blanket over his shoulders to soak up the moisture from the rain storm and sees the broken greatsword on the floor, then follows his gaze up to the greatsword hanging over the fireplace. "Ahh, I see you've met Black Fang, she served me well in my days amongst the Black Bear berserkers." He pauses, lost in memories of old times for a moment before resuming. "I remember you, and your mother... Immith I believe? She very much wanted you to belong to one of the lodges. She pushed for White Dragon so much because she knew that was what you wanted. That was a while back though, old men had their views on what was proper or not.... such fools we were. The times have changed a lot in the last few years. I hope you can forgive us for that."
He looks back up at the weapon over the hearth and reaches up and tentatively takes it down. "Care to hold her?"
Eve:
As you sit by the fire, you notice patterns begin to play out as the motes of flame shift and flex into several images before returning back to normal. A small figure standing in defiance before a larger one, the smaller figure launched into the air with daggers in both hands, the smaller figure standing over the downed larger figure, a face wreathed in flames giving a nod of approval, a rat with wings on the smaller figure's shoulder.
Senna:
Back in your room, at some point you notice that while your door was locked, you notice a few of your items are slightly out of place. It's very subtle, but being in The Order you always set your items in a specific pattern for easy access and recollection and you know a couple of things have been moved.
Edge luxuriates in the drying warmth of the fire, smiling as each drop of rain evaporates in the heat. As he dries off, he looks around the room and is fascinated by the animal heads on the walls. He’s never seen such a thing before.
”Friend, mayor, why heads on wall? We’re they pets?”
He hears Ridley confirm what he had suspected about the boar man. He was a lycanthrope.
“Have more wereboar find? Story Edge hear, one werewolf make many werewolf.”
Mayor Hulmar hands Kanithar the weapon, hilt first for safety and smiles, "Tonight, you and yours gave me the greatest gift a father can receive, you saved my daughter's life, and that is a hefty debt to pay. Your weapon was broken saving her and even though I can't give you this weapon as much as I would like to, I will loan it to you until you earn your own. I'd like to sponsor you for admittance to the black bear lodge, if that is acceptable? You've proven your worth to me tonight, but prove yourself to the lodge, and the witches will make you one even better than mine." With a warm pat on the shoulder, he turns to Edge as he begins to ask questions.
Mayor Hulmar looks around the room as Edge asks about the heads on the wall and sheepishly answers, not sure how the truth will be taken. "No my friend, these were conquests from earlier days. Moving up in rank in black bear required a hunt of something strong, and these animals I killed for those hunts. This one in particular was my toughest", he says pointing to a large black bear head on the wall, "It was the one that proclaimed me leader of the lodge so long ago."
When Edge asks about the wereboar, Ridley looks confused for a moment before seeming to understand, "Have I found more, or are there more to find? I have not, and I am not sure. I'm sure there are many creatures lurking in the Ashenwood, it's massive! But I'm not sure how many Lycanthropes might be running around in there though."
As Ahnna hugs Senna after checking up on her Senna will reply, You are welcome, im glad i was able to help in time. she adds a smile before watching her lean against her father.
When Kaseon drops her off at her room I agree, if we are to be in dangerious situations like that we should know whatever there is to know. But we will need to build trust to share our secrets fully. Thank you for walking me over, ill be alright. I just need some rest.
After that she closes her door and sits down on the bed a moment to take a few seconds rest before cleaning her wounds. Looking up and around her room she notices some things are not exactly where she left it. Looking closely she is positive someone has moved her things. Could they of searched her room?
She brought her valuables with her so they couldnt of taken much. Knowing she is tired she mumbles a few words Help me keep my senses sharp. as a faint glow forms around her for only a second before vanishing again.
Senna will then investigate her room to see if anything is actually missing or if she can find clues about who was in here or why.
After looking around she will undress and wash her side where the boarman hit her. Cleaning the wound as she grits her teeth and tries to focus her mind on what she just saw in her room instead of the pain. Once cleaned she will try and get some sleep, leaving it as a problem for the next day.
