You gather up outside Madenal's house and head back towards the town square where you find several people heading into the tavern along with Mayor Hulmar. He sees you and waves you over, inviting you inside for a bit of late lunch and to discuss your findings.
Walking inside, you find the tavern not quite so busy as the night previously, most of the patrons meeting at night, but there are several people sitting at tables having a meal together. As a waitress comes over bringing several mugs of ale, Imzel rushes through the door with a grave look on her face and steps up to Mayor Hulmar, "I'm afraid we've had our first casualty due to illness. Madenal is no longer with us..."
When Eve hears the news, she’s sat around the table with everyone. She’s probably next to Kanithar. She has a beer mug, which looks large in both her hands, held half way up to her mouth. She just freezes like that, and stares at Imzel, the news not sinking in properly to start with...
Slowly her mouth drops open wider, in disbelief. And if anyone was looking over they might see tears start to well in her eyes.
Sitting at the table eating a bit of lunch Senna closes her eyes a few seconds at hearing the news. It was not the first time she had people dying nearby and she had learned to control her emotions. But she still blames herself for not being able stop it, not being able to heal them. She grits her teeth and clenches her fist tightly as her crystal lights somewhat white and her skin turns just a tone lighter, barely noticable if you arent looking.
After a moment she unclenches her first streching her fingers relaxing herself and opens her eyes again.
Having noted the details in her memory she speaks to respond to Kanithar A few weeks he was ill they said. The guard could be next she says in a quieter tone to not have everyone in the room hear her.
She pushes away her plate And we are sitting here having a nice mealshaking her head We need to quicken our pace, time is running out.
Imzel thinks for a moment before answering, "He has been in the infirmary for twenty two days today. Twenty three days ago he was fishing and healthy, twenty two days ago he was found at his house in bed, gasping for breath. Of all my patients, his symptoms always seemed the worst."
When Kanithar puts his arm around her, Eve somehow sets her drink down and then just crumples against him, with his arm around her shoulders. She doesn’t go completely faint or limp, but he feels some of the fight go out of her body, as she just gives in to the sadness for that brief moment.
She listens to the discussions, then after the others have asked their questions, she manages a big, hitching sigh. She lifts her head and opens her eyes, and says, “Lady Imzel, were you there at the end?”.
Then she lowers her voice and asks kindly, “How did he pass? If you don’t mind me asking?... Did he show signs of change since we saw him ourselves?....“.
”Was it peaceful? Pain-free?.... ..Please don’t spare my feelings, it’s sad but it might be, important...”.
She has most of her strength back and looks at the Physician calmly and earnestly.
Garcis curses as he hears the news of the death, knowing that there was nothing he could have done but hating it just the same. "I need to go catch some air... I shall return shortly." The kobold says before leaving the building to check up with the gnome he had given his item to look at.
Kaseon listens quietly to the news, head bowed, before looking to the mayor, "We may be doing a little patrol outside of town this afternoon. With luck, we'll find some more answers then, but I think we may have to step up night patrols around the city. We've still no idea whether the source is a disease or poison or if its a creature or parasite of some kind."
Imzel takes the ring and looks it over, "I've never seen anything like it. I think I recall him wearing a ring of some kind at one point, but I didn't take notice of what it looked like though." She hands the ring back to Kanithar and turns to respond to Eve. "I'm afraid I wasn't, I left the infirmary to get lunch and when I got back he wasn't breathing anymore. Speaking of which, I should get back to my other patients." She turns with a nod to Hulmar and heads out the door.
Mayor Hulmar nods at Kaseon, "What has your investigation shown you so far? Is there anything I can do to help?"
Garcis: You find the gnome in his "office" sitting at a desk and using a particular set of curious tools on the item you left with him. As he notices movement at the door, he discreetly sits the item down on a cloth and wraps it up before realizing who has walked in. "Ahh, it's good that you are here!" He unwraps the item and shows it to you, pointing out the earlier problems he saw with it and explaining what he did to fix them. "The device itself is complex and basic at the same time. Much like a crossbow, it will only fire once and then must be reloaded. If we worked together, we could most likely create another one that could fire multiple times before reloading. It would be expensive, but with the right amount of money, we could acquire the materials needed. All in due time though, this one still holds mysteries, such as, what to fire from it."
"Also," he points to a small symbol inscribed into the base of the grip, "This is a tracking rune, did you know about it?"
Edge listens to everyone's thoughts, concerns and idea. Then he tries summarizing what they know, ticking off fingers as he speaks.
"Madenal fishing man have visitor. Maybe drink poison maybe drink urine. Not know. Have weird brain ring. Get sick. Die. No answers."
He pauses the continues.
"Boar man with red eyes attack village. He control little pigs. Die. No answers."
He thinks a moment longer.
"War. Spies. Hunters scared of forest and town have no answers," Edge says. "Edge think yes. Must look outside town. Should go forest like friend say," he adds gesturing at Kaeson.
Mayor Hulmar ponders on it for a moment, "We have an alchemist in town, his name is Ramevik, He might be able to shed some light on something like that."
"It does not surprise me. It is something that I will take care of unless you perhaps know how to remove the rune. I do not like the idea of the original maker trying to find this. It was in the wrong hands." Garcis says as he look the weapon over.
Eve has been taking everything in, and trying to process it all. As she does so, some of her sadness becomes a gently simmering anger, like a storm coming but still some way off. Her tail whips up behind her, flicking from side to side.
She sits up a little straighter, still glad of Kanithar’s comforting presence. And after people have asked their questions, she says, “Mayor Hulmar?... Madenal passed away when Lady Imzel was not there. Maybe it was coincidence, but maybe more foul play... ...Can you spare a guard for the patients? I think we need someone there at all times”.
Then she looks around the group “And I think we need our weapons. Will the silvered weapons be ready yet?”.
She looks up at Kanithar, “Should we grab that bottle from the house and get it over to the Alchemist?... ...Then maybe we can check out this forest?”, she asks everyone.
”Mayor? How big is the forest exactly??!”.
Kanithar can feel Eve’s strength coming back. She maybe feels like she’s restless now or buzzing a little, and even seems like she might be getting a little hot to the touch.

Mayor Hulmar gets a confused look on his face, "Drank poison or urine?"
Mayor Hulmar ponders on it for a moment, "We have an alchemist in town, his name is Ramevik, He might be able to shed some light on something like that."
Senna nods at Kanithars words. Yes, the hunters told us they could not go there since recently. What has changed?
She will then wait for the mayor to respond.
Meanwhile she will hold up her hand towards Kanithar Could i see that ring for a moment?
