You stow the books away in your bags and leave Womford by the road you came. You pass through Bargewright Inn without incident and make your way into the surrounding foothills using the map from Shoalar. It's bright, clear and temperate.
With a mixture of wit and wimsy, the group makes their way unmolested. Coming to a tree-lined curve in the road, Merry and Arnnon hear low voices from a small distance in the trees.
Merry is able to get close enough to listen to the group with ease. They are talking about ambushing travellers on the main road between Red Larch and Bargewright. They seem to be a raiding party from Rivergard Keep.
Edging a little closer again Merry is able to peek through the trees enough to see that there are 8 in the group, three of whom have Crushing Wave symbols on their clothing
Merry silently indicates to the rest of the group that there’s people hiding in the bush ready to attack before whispering a melody and casting Sleep at the group of ambushers.
As Merry completes her incantation, Coal steps on a thick dry branch. The resounding crack causes one of the bandits to jump out and look around. This happens just as sleep takes hold of him and he topples straight back over, landing dangerously close to the campfire. He spills his broth on the bandit beside him, who is too distracted and sore to care about the sound just now. A third bandit that was eating looks very drowsy but has not succumbed.
Unfortunately others in the camp are now on alert, but do not know where the group is. Merry and Rollo were farthest forward and have stayed hidden. They see weapons retrieved from tents and confused talk around the sleeping bandit.
Watching the boat depart Nibor ponders:
Huh, I'm sure that won't have any future repercussions eh?
Ahem, anyway, shall we? I'll admit the mention of fell power excites and terrifies! Or does anyone have any other business here first?
A little too excitedly, Merry exclaims in response, Let’s go kill some cultists!
