Inside the doors atop the staircase is a large room, roughly 50' square. The doorway is diagonal across the southwest corner of the room. The floor is strewn with all manner of debris, at least some of which resembles broken and decaying furniture. Directly opposite your position, just at the edge of your vision, in the approximate location of the light source seen earlier, is the outline of a closed door. To your left, you can see an opening in the west wall just a few feet away, and a second in the northwest corner. To your right, is another opening just a few feet away, and what could be stairs to the ruined upper level on the far side of that opening. At your feet are what remain of the sundered and felled main doors.
All: As night closes solidly over the ruins, with a sigh and a grunt, the ox settles into the corner of the corral and is soon snoring softly. The light from the candles diffuses quickly, and little else can be seen, or heard, as even the sounds of the typical nighttime insects is absent inside the ruins.
Barnabus follows Cade into the room. Pausing at the entrance he motions to Wil and Rachel to follow along. Turning to the others he suggests in a whisper,
"You might want to light some more candles if ya got em."
Entering the room he moves across to the right of the other door.
Rachel takes the cue from Barnabus and pulls a pair of torches from her pack, hands one off to Bart or Kina, and lights the other from the candle and heads up the stairs.
The openings near the main door are each the beginning of hallways that stretch out beyond the range of the torchlight. The stairs up on the right side clog with debris after but a few steps. The opening in the northwest corner has a wooden barrel in view and shadows of others behind it. The door in the northeast corner appears to be newer than the surrounding stonework and is shut tight.

Kina is less enthusiastic about heading up the stairs. Her hooves would make an awful racket. She seems fine with bringing up the rear, if only because she would be a big roadblock for anyone behind her. She holds the torch ready, preparing to dash up the stairs from the bottom once the others are clear and out of the way, at which point it hardly matters how much noise she makes.

Looking down the south hallway, immediately on your right are 5' wide stairs leading up, but after only 10-15' the stairway is clogged with broken stone and beams. Ahead, the hallway extends 30' and seems to open into a larger area. There are 2 doors on the left side, and 1 on the right, all appear to be closed. Roll Perception.
You find it odd that no footprints go down the southern hallway.

You notice that what few tracks head down the southern hallway are quite old and overlaid with weeks or months worth of dust.

Cade would want to be among the first up the stairs, as his bare-form gives him more protection than the others have.
Barnabus follows Cade into the room. Pausing at the entrance he motions to Wil and Rachel to follow along. Turning to the others he suggests in a whisper,

Cade-bear will move into the area with the barrels and snuffle around to see if there is anything of interest or concern among them.

Barnabus:
You hear nothing at the door.
Cade-bear:
The barrel closest to you has an faint odor of stale cheese, but that is heavily overrun by the odor of rats further in.

Cade nseezes as he scents the snale cheese, and then moves back to join the others, not interested in rats right now.
'Do we wish to check out the halls or just go through that newer door' Cade asks into the group's minds.
“Probably best to check out the other halls, at least as far as we can see down them, before we try the door. What do you all think?”

"Hey look at that."
says Barnabus as he points at the floor. The Dwarf walks out into the main room, head down examining the floor.
"Looks like everybody is going either to that door or that door."
he swings his arm to indicate the disturbed dust paths on the floor.
"Doesn't seem to be anyone in the halls, just those doors."
he indicates the door opposite the one they came in and the door in the northwest corner.
"Lets try that one."
He points to the opposite door.
