A Call to Action
It’s a beautiful morning in Daggerford - perfect for a MarketDay. It has been either too wet or too chilly the past few months to really draw a crowd, so it seems everyone is here today! Farmers and small merchants bring their goods to the market and sell them from temporary booths, although they have become more permanent lately and would now take a full day to dismantle.
Around the market place are the permanent establishments - Farrels’ Fine Jewels and Apparel, The Happy Cow tavern, Cromach’s Smithy, and the Guildmasters’ Hall. Most of the buildings in Daggerford are made of wood and thatch; however, since Derval Ironeater’s family brought their stone working skills to town a decade ago, a number of people have built in stone. Most of the residences in the crowded living areas are still made of wood. Placement of these wooden buildings is sometimes rearranged due to the occasional fire. Fortunately, proximity to the river allows the Watermen’s Guild to quench fires quickly.
(Please tell us what you are doing today - working / shopping / etc. Feel free to interact with each other!)
I am choosing the driftglobe. Please let me know what I need to pay to identify what exactly it does. From my simple research, it appears to be an orb that floats and produces light. Me being the star that I am, sees the importance of having the ability to control light in this manner. I mean after all the star should shine the brightest.
You don't need to pay anything - driftglobes are a common enough magic item - and you can figure it out easily enough! So Fawn gets the Bag of Holding. OK - back to Market Day!
What a beautiful day for a stroll. Being out in the fresh air helps me clear the lingering effects of the bug’s poison and it feels good to stretch my legs. I hate to think of my gymnast’s muscles tightening up on me!
It’s probably a bit too early to find some mead at this market, but maybe I’ll locate a turkey-leg to gnaw on…I can use the protein 😊
I will wander around a bit with Star. It seems people are so happy to be out enjoying this gorgeous day. I decide that music could only improve the mood. I find a good spot to do some busking near the Happy Cow tavern. My songs today will be focused on this amazing day (think Jimmy Cliff, I can see Clearly Now) and some other tunes dealing with the history and the lore of the area. On my breaks I will have some mead with Star and participate in one of my favorite past times, people watching.
Ah, the bright sunshine is awfully nice, but I could use a Starry mood. HAHAHA! I'll just wander around a bit, acquainting myself to people who were once to scared of me to talk. Introducing myself as the Superhero, obviously. I run into Star and Edward, and soon the mood is Starry! HAHAHA!!!! I chat with Edward on his music breaks, but spend most of my time with Star, wandering the market.
While the tiny hells may not have broken loose in Joeja, they must have broken loose around you, because you drop your viol after nearly tripping over a fast-moving group of hooligan children running through the streets! (It can be repaired with a mending spell or by a woodworker.)
Meanwhile, Star and Fawn walk aimlessly around the market, occasionally stopping to look at a vendor's wares, or to sample a sweet-roll, or watch one of the various street performers. A few townsfolk have heard about your exploits under the city, but you don't get much more than recognition of being the resident exterminators. (Anything you need or want to purchase gear-wise? Now is a good time to role-play acquiring new gear!)
The serenity of the day is interrupted by a rider rapidly approaching from the Caravan Gate to the south. As he passes through the gate, he falls off his horse, extending an arm in your direction as if pleading for help. You quickly rush to the man’s side and hear him gasp, “Lizardfolk . . .Lizardfolk raided Cromm’s holding . . . need help . . . please . . . ”He then collapses into unconsciousness. The rider seems to have been in some kind of battle – his peasant’s shirt is soaked in blood and you notice there are several puncture wounds and claw marks on his arms and chest. The horse was also injured in their escape. The farmers and shopkeepers around the Marketplace quickly move in to tend to both rider and horse.
Cromm’s holding is one of the farming hamlets surrounding Daggerford, with six families totaling around 20 people. Although it is a 30 minute ride by horseback, you are likely the nearest help.
Explain why you step forward to go investigate. Everyone make a Persuasion or Intimidation check to get the townsfolk milling about to lend you horses for the trip, and then make an Animal Handling check.
I'm very concerned by this news. My family also lives in a small village not far from Daggerford and if these lizardfolk are in Cromm's Holding, my hometown may be in danger. I feel certain my fellow adventures will join me in this quest. I quickly down the giant turkey leg in my hand, slosh down some beer, and ask some of the gathering crowd if my friend Fawn and I can can borrow some horses so we can find the rest of our posse then head to Cromm's Holding.
Aoeer walks through the gates of Daggerford from the direction of the local graveyard, his shield strapped to his back and his warhammer slung over his shoulder, black icor still dripping from it's polished head. Walking through the crowd to it's edge, he unslings his warhammer and lets it slide through his grip to the ground, leaning on it like a staff. He says, "I'll help, if not for any other reason than to wage war upon the wicked."
I'm instantly worried for everyone dealing with the Lizardfolk. I always try to help others and if I'm able to help the villagers, I will help. I ask the townsfolk for horses so my adventurers and I can make it to Cromm's Holding to help. I also welcome the new adventurer, Aoeer, and thank him for his help.
Good people, thank you for caring for this man. I and the Crushing Crew that you know so well from our amazing adventures here in Daggerford will go forth and eradicate these lizardfolk. We are hopeful to depart immediately to provide safety and aid to any of the survivors that may be left in Cromm's holding. We will seek retribution on behalf of this man. We will send a strong message to others that may be thinking of conducting raids that Daggerford, and her outlying community will not be trifled with. You can aid us in sending this message by providing required horses that will get us to Cromm's holding with the swiftness required to save those who may be hanging onto life by the thinnest of threads
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I decide to go with the group to fight off the Lizardfolk, deciding I want to help. I am trying to change my past ways as someone who didn't care about others, and this may be just the way to change others views of me. I hope this will be an easy battle, and one that does not result in bad injuries.
Star's honeyed words make a great impression on the townsfolk. The bard's fancy phrases are heartfelt, but come across a bit cold. Syllin, the timid cleric, is barely heard above the noise in the moment, Fawn, unfortunately, hasn't shaken her impression of a swindler in town. Still, the folks want to help out and protect their outlying areas, and so you manage to scrape up almost enough horses to get there. Fawn's old nag is head-strong and persnickety, but she seems to be able to handle it well.
(Once you are ready to go...)
Fiery Aftermath
The trip passes quickly and without any problems (great Animal Handling rolls!) As you ride over a hill, you see a stone wall surrounding several buildings, and a pillar of smoke rising from the fortified townhouse in the center of Cromm’s hamlet. As you watch, a stone wall falls in, the wooden supports eaten away by fire. There are some dead villagers lying about, but no bodies of any attackers.
In the center of the hamlet, the heat from the fire is intense, but dying. The few survivors, mostly women, are mourning their dead. Suddenly, an ash-stained woman accompanied by a forlorn girl rush towards you. The woman throws herself at one of your horses. “You must help him. You must!” she sobs. “He’s gone after the rest of them, into the swamp!” She points to the southwest.
DC15 Perception + Syllin
You notice a couple ornamental belts and baldrics laced with blue feathers caught in the brush between the settlement and the direction of the swamp.
Who went after them? Were the attackers wearing baldrics with blue feathers? Pointing in the direction of the items I see in the brush, did they head off in this direction?

I rosin-up my bow and I play my viol hard, cause hell's broke loose.... somewhere, I'm not sure where.
