Apparently, fixing crumbling structures in the catacombs was not part of the maintenance. Nor an obvious precaution against undead and grave-robbers - sealing the crypts. Kelemvorites definitely did not kill themselves on the job, probably for the sake of keeping entropy at bay. Ola did not comment, though, and waited for their guide to answer the questions.
Cassyt answers of the stairs, "They are old, but they should be safe. Very few of us have come this deep into the catacombs, so I cannot say for sure. I believe that the left passage will take us further. I am not certain of the right."
The torch falls, illuminating the shaft and revealing that it seems to be empty. At the edge of the right-most passage leading out, it also illuminates an old wooden door that lies closed.
Nothing attacked the torch, the stairs - according to Cassyt - were supposed to be sturdy enough and Ola carefully stepped on the first one. "Don't know if I am the lightest among us, but can go first. If we go one by one I guess it would not be a problem?" She took another step, carefully choosing where to put the foot and keeping the lamp lower to see, then, if everything was fine, made it all the way downstairs.
As Ola makes her way down, Hex speaks to the group, "Guess we're going down the left corridor if we're heading as deep inside as we can?" She would prefer to be the last to go down the stairs.
Uragum looked down at the torch and all seemed okay. Then he frowned thinking, Everyone always looks down but not up. He then looked up towards the ceiling to make sure nothing was up there. Assuming is fine, he would request to be the third in line.
Arnald and Sly stand at the back of the line waiting their turn to descend the stairs. Once he reaches the bottom he pauses to inspect the door to the right, initially looking for anything of interest and then looking to see if there's a way to ensure it remains closed. Arnald doesn't want anyone sneaking up behind them.
OOC: Tough to discern an order based on what's been given but just to keep us moving I'll go with:
1. Ola 2. Uragum (since Sylyra hasn't weighed in yet and I don't want to assume he's willing to descend so quickly, and both Hex and Arnald indicated they would be near the back) 3. Arnald 4. Hex
Ola Acrobatics: 9 Uragum Acrobatics: 7
The ancient wood creaks, cracks, and groans as Ola descends first. The stairs bend and loosen dust that falls with each step, but despite their age, carry her safely to the ground floor, where she can see the door mentioned by Cassyt and further down the other passage, which looks to open up to a side room and extend to another descending staircase.
Uragum joins her much more quickly than planned, when the entire staircase collapses beneath the weight of the goliath. Starting at the midway point and rippling in both directions like a crashing wave, the rotted wood drops Uragum beside the statue in a jumble of debris on his back, delivering 12 bludgeoning damage in the process.
While the dust settles, it reveals that the collapse has fortunately left plenty of handholds and footholds where wooden posts were set into the stone.
Waiting to be one of the last (if not the last) down, Sylyra's eyes widen as the stairs collapse beneath Uragum. "Aural's Kiss!" the elf exclaims, backing away from the stairs. Once the dust settles, he ventures out to look over the edge again. "Is he all right?" he asks Arnald and Hex.
If the idea is to climb down using the "handholds and footholds", Sylyra will allow Arnold to go first. If Hex is dead set on going last, he'll go after Arnold. Otherwise, he'll go last.
"I think it is stable..." begun Ola when the whole section collapsed. She sighed. "So much for old but safe."Ola gave hand to Uragum, helping him on his fit and in the same time sharing that little healing light she possessed (all 10 points to Uragum). She looked at the remains of the stairs critically. "With some ropes should be doable, but I wonder how we are going to get back".
As Uragum is hitting the ground he clenches upon impact. Doing so turns him hard as stone but he still hits the ground hard.
Going to use stone's endurance to reduce damage by 6
With a little effort he lets out a groan and stands brushing debris and dust off himself. He looks up and yells back. "What your step, that first one is a dosey."
Hex's eyes widen at the sight of Uragum's fall before she chuckles. "Well. That went as expected." Seeing all the foot and handholds left behind from the collapse, Hex is more than confident to climb down as Arnald looks for something to tie rope to. As she's climbing, she calls out to Cassyt. "You think you'll be alright climbing down?"
Arnald finds a post near the top of the collapsed stairs that is sturdy enough to hold weight, and ties his rope there to allow Hex to climb down. She does so with ease, joining Ola and Uragum near the statue at the bottom of the shaft.
Cassty calls back, "Yes, that should not be a problem." She motions to Arnald and Sylyra to allow them down first.
OOC: This will be a Strength (Athletics) check to climb down the rope.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: The standoff is between Sylyra and Cassyt (Hex has already climbed down), but she was only waiting as a courtesy. She'll go after Arnald.

Cassyt waits for Arnald to reach the bottom before taking hold of the rope herself. She tests her weight carefully before beginning to rappel. A sudden popping sound precedes her short scream, however, as the rod that the rope is tied to snaps apart. She follows Uragum's flight to the ground, taking 9 bludgeoning damage and rolling a few feet to the side. She does not stir for a few moments, but then a groan escapes her lips as she slowly pushes herself up to a sitting position.
"That's not how I expected to get down," she mumbles, wiping a bloody lip on her sleeve.

Again, Sylyra would prefer to go last, but he won't fight anyone about it. (I'll let the DM sort it out.)
