Holy ... I just remembered that Sylyra tied up the kobold in the previous room in order to question him/her/it. DM, would it be feasible that we questioned him/her/it during the short rest, or is that too much activity to also count as a short rest?
(Hey DM, I also mentioned that Hex searched the bodies during the short rest since she wasn't injured at all. Would she have found anything on their bodies?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
OOC: Yes, Hex did, thank you for reminding me. As for the kobold, it remained unconscious throughout the rest (creatures that are knocked unconscious remain unconscious for 1d4 hours).
Group Investigation: Hex: 17 Ola: 14 Sylyra: 18
A closer examination of the wall does not bring to light any sign of a trap, or an intentional cave-in. The tunnel is currently impassable by physical means, and the rubble does not look fresh. This tunnel has been blocked for quite some time.
Cassyt looks around and answers Ola, "Perhaps it is time that we return to Doomguide Glandon? It seems we have discovered the source of undead within the catacombs, and I believe he would rather know the details and investigate further than have us push past our limits."
Among the bodies, Hex finds pouches on each of the dead humans, with 45 gold pieces in the knight's, and 25 gold pieces in the other. The kobolds carry an additional 5 gold pieces scattered among a few worthless pieces of junk and a dead mouse.
How dead is the mouse? Does it smell? If it appears to be a recent kill, Sylyra will pocket the mouse, but only when Arnold, Uragum and Ola aren't looking. He doesn't care if Hex sees.
Sylyra looks at the others. "I believe the lady is right. Let us return and make our report."
If this is a wrap-up ending, Sylyra will suggest Uragum carries the kobold up with them to be questioned on the surface.
"Ha ha! Another mission survived. Even if barely," Uragum says. He would gladly pick up and toss the limp kobold over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. Only after trying it'd mout shut too. He doesn't want to be bit.
The ascent from the catacombs is long and tiresome, but much less troublesome without the threat of undead in front of you. The lengthy stairways (and broken stairs) tax your remaining energy, but a short time after climbing a rope to reach the upper levels, Cassyt leads you out of the catacombs and into the waning sunlight of Valhingen Graveyard. The weary acolyte, silent throughout the return, escorts you into the large main structure of the graveyard, where Doomguide Yovir Glandon is summoned.
The older Kelemvorite offers a reserved smile when he sees the dust-covered party before him. "I must admit, I was beginning to worry. I am happy to see you have all returned safely. Tell me, what did you discover, if anything?" he asks.
Hex looks pleased upon finding the gold but slightly disappointed that there was no more information as to what was going on in the catacombs.
As she splits the gold equally amongst the group and spots Sylyra pocket the dead mouse, Hex laughs and shakes her head in amused disbelief. "What exactly do you plan to do with that?"
She follows in her usual spot behind the group as they make their way out of the cataconbs, happy that everyone had managed to stay in one piece. Once the group meets up with Yovir, Hex stays a bit further behind the group and let's everyone else speak. She wasn't here when they first got the job after all.
"We found a Red Wizard, protected by men, kobolds and undead. Most likely he was responsible for the unrest. We had to kill him and his guards, but captured one of the kobolds in case you want to hear details." Ola summed up their troublesome adventure and slightly nodded at Uragum, carrying the unconscious kobold.
Uragum drops the unconcious kobold at the priest's feet. "Yeah, pretty deep I'm the catacombs, further than you've gone in awhile, was a group mucking with stuff they shouldn't have. Some sorta mage, a knight and few of these kobolds down with some undead," Uragum says.
He shifts to his other foot. "Had to kill most of the but we brought this guy back for interrogation." He shakes his head thinking he did pretty good explaining and stops.
"Oh... and we had a run in with some thieves. They had come down some grate in what was like a sun room for vampires? Anyways they were doing some grave robbin and then locked themselves in a room to get away from some zombies. Unfortunately, they choose to fight and die than to leave the goods they were trying to take and face the law."
Sylyra raises his eyebrows at Hex. "Do you not enjoy a midnight snack now and then?" he asks seriously.
Up on the surface, Sylyra corrects Ola, but not unkindly: "The red-robed wizard escaped, actually," the druid says. "We stumbled upon him and his ilk just before he stepped into some kind of arcane circle and disappeared. I am hoping this one," he says, indicating the kobold, "will shed some light on what, exactly was going on down there, and where the mage may have escaped to. I will also mention that, in spite of the undead, the deep catacombs are dangerous. One flight of stairs crumbled under our weight. I would suggest you hire a crew to make the way safe before another party of priests ventures down themselves."
At Sylyra's answer, Hex opens her mouth as though she's about to say something. Instead she frowns and purses her lips, squinting suspiciously at the druid.

OOC: No apologies needed for fun digressions. I'll obviously leave it up to Sylyra how effective a 15 is at deigning the truth and what the truth is.
"A wizard?" Yovir asks in dismayed fashion. "I had hoped that this was the work of some long forgotten curse, or relic of some sort, but to know it is sourced by someone living...I would indeed like to know what this kobold knows. I thank you for bringing it to me alive. Was there no further information available? Why this wizard was there, what purpose they had in these particular catacombs?"
He says in regard to the thieves, "It is regrettable that their lives were forfeited, but I trust that you gave them all opportunity to stand down. We will be sure to investigate that area and ensure that nothing is missing, that no other thieves were able to abscond with the valuables of the dead before them."
After a moment of staring at Sylyra, Hex lets out a laugh and shrugs. "I suppose so. I prefer rat over mice though. More meat on the bones." She gives him a pat on the shoulder before walking past him.
"I would be interested in seeing the papers," Doomguide Glandon suggests during the long silence. "And Cassyt, what of your assessment?"
Cassyt bows respectfully, saying, "Excepting the druid's pointed words, all were entirely respectful of me, the dead, and their belongings. I did not note a single instance of theft, or even a desire to lift anything valuable from the catacombs. Their purpose was singular throughout, and it was only at my suggestion that they considered turning back. After the wizard fled, they seemed willing to press on past our fatigue to get to the bottom of this."
Glandon says to the group, "I trusted you, after seeing the lengths you were willing to go to defend that remote island village, and I am pleased with your efforts once again." Turning to the acolyte, he asks, "Cassyt, could you retrieve their payment from my desk?"
As Cassyt leaves the area, he asks, "And what of my young acolyte? Did she serve ably as your guide?"
At the question about Cassyt, Hex perks up and gives Glandon a thumbs up. "She was great! More than just a guide that gave us fun facts. We probably wouldn't have gotten as far as we did if it weren't for her help in battle."
"She is careful and inexperienced, but when needed, she readily stepped up and did all she could to contribute to the task," Sylyra says frankly. "Doomguide," the elf says (after any other comments on Cassyt), "do you know the history of the catacombs? We encountered a room which may have been used in the execution and perhaps torture of vampires. Do you have any knowledge of this? It's very curious."
"As a guide on the known parts Cassit was useful, indeed." Ola nodded to the young cleric. "Next time, though, you might want to tech your acolytes a few healing techniques. Even if we cleaned the catacombs now, the place is to big and unsafe, one can never know when a healing spell comes handy."

Hex would aid Sylyra as he examines the wall.

Ola would politely decline her share of a dead mouse but other than that is ready (and eager) to return.

Ready to be back above ground, Arnald heads back the way they came. "I agree. We should go speak with the Doomguide."
