Kal & Silthras As you channel divine energy into your senses, you feel your consciousness briefly expand in a sort of bubble around you. No malevolent creatures present themselves, but the very earth beneath your feet seems...Wrong. The ground is not desecrated, but you get a sense that it is becoming that way. With this in mind, as you glance around in the dying light, you notice for the first time that many of the crops in the surrounding farmland - and even some of the evergreen trees - appear to be wilting.
Velyra & Usul Peering out the window, Velyra would not spot any undead close enough to notice her escape from the inn. A few groupings to the west, but the way east(towards the plaza with the apothecary) appears to be clear - save for a small humanoid(Usul), moving sneakily along the road towards the inn.
A twisting feeling forms in Kal's gut as he realizes that this entire area is being corrupted. This was turning out to be far more that he expected. After relaying this realization to Silthras, the knight will let out a sigh and shake his head. "I don't think he's looting the town, but he may be in trouble. We have no way of knowing anything for sure, but I don't like the idea of staying in the open."
"We should either move into the town, or try to barricade ourselves in a nearby building on the farms where we can see the road to watch for him."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
After spotting the gnome, Velyra will wave her arms in the air to catch his attention, pointing back towards the way he came from. She will peak around the corner of the inn, looking to the north to make sure the coast is clear that way before trying to reach Usul's position.
"... but I don't like the idea of staying in the open."
"We should either move into the town, or try to barricade ourselves in a nearby building on the farms where we can see the road to watch for him."
Silthras nods and looks around, "Even the best plan does not survive first contact with the enemy, as my mother likes to say."
"Night is coming, and we have been warned about increased activity..." he says, turning back to the town and he shaking his head in frustration. "...and while it's tempting to suggest we follow his path into town, and make our way to the centre -- or failing that, a building we can secure -- neither of us are particularly stealthy. A thousand feet of open space may as well be an ocean."
He looks at the nearby manor, "Hunkering down out of sight is starting to appeal."
Velyra spots undead north of the inn, but they are far enough away that her somewhat clunky attempt at stealthy movement goes unnoticed, reaching Usul with ease.
Usul makes his way over to the living Half-Elf, smiling as she waves to him. "Hi!" He says. Clearly trying to be 'quiet' but only half successful. Then more somberly adds "Were you in the Inn? We found the boy in the apothecary... but he's not moving..."
Kal follows his gaze to the manor, raising a skeptical eyebrow. "I worry about what he might find lurking in something that big. There was a storage shed back down the road some, we should be close enough to still see the town entrance from there."
Silthras stares at the manor for a time, "Yes, it's further away than the town...you are right. I guess we opt for a hiding place rather than a defensible one."
(( Just checking -- town outskirts are 1000' away and manor is 2600' away ))
"Traako!" The woman swears in elvish, glancing away as she does so. She lets out a frustrated sigh, and then nods, pulling herself back together. "Right. Yes, I was at the inn. How many are you? There are more, yes?"
"It's better than nothing,"Kal offers. If his companion doesn't suggest something else, he walks back down the road to where the storage shed/stables were, carefully checking them for undead before trying to settle into a spot that can offer both cover and a vantage point from which to monitor the road.

"We are all that are here now" Usul says, holding out his arms, but adds "There are two more waiting outside town though. After we came to find you, we were to try to distract the undead so they could get in... But there are far more than we thought..."
"Only two more?" Velyra says, the disappointment clear in her voice. "We were hoping for a larger force that that."The elvish woman thinks for a moment, closing her eyes. "The other two will need to be brought into town as quickly as possible. Things get far worse when darkness falls. If they're within a few miles of the town they'll be sitting ducks. And then I need to get inside that apothecary shop, whether or not Sammie is alive we desperately need some medicinal mixtures."

Nodding as he listens, Usul replies "There are a number of undead outside the apothecary... We weren't able to get inside unfortunately. Do you know of a hidden entrance?" And then thinking about his friends outside of town adds "Also... do you know how we can get our friends into town? The plan was for us to distract the hordes so they could come in... but it seems there are far more than we would easily be able to occupy."
"It's better than nothing,"Kal offers. If his companion doesn't suggest something else, he walks back down the road to where the storage shed/stables were, carefully checking them for undead before trying to settle into a spot that can offer both cover and a vantage point from which to monitor the road.
Silthras nods, "Aye."
As they work to check, clear and fortify their bolt hole as best they can, he keeps a wary eye on the road and their surrounds.
"So...what brings you to this lovely spot? A favour or debt, the prospect of purging of an ancient corruption, duty...or something else?" he asks.
"No hidden entrances that I'm aware of." Velyra swears again in frustration. "There usually aren't so many in that plaza. Two of us run from the inn, attracting as much attention as possible to clear the way. Then a third goes out for supplies."The elvish woman thinks again for a moment, trying to come up with a solution to their problem.
"I can make a lot of noise on the other end of the town to draw the undead there. It should be enough to get your friends to the inn safely. If you could stop at the apothecary on your way...I'm going to have a lot of undead on my heels."
Kal and Silthras make the short back down the road, finding a locked shed(30ftx30ft) on the edge of the nearby field just off the road. The lock is rusted, and easily broken with the slightest bit of applied leverage. The pair of you rearrange some of the farm equipment inside to provide cover, and settle in next to a window facing the town. While it's difficult for you to make out things that far down the road, you're also fairly confident that you're likewise hidden. Aside from wandering undead far out in the fields, nothing else seems to be moving out there at the moment.
As Kal settles down next to Silthras, eyes on the road, he mulls over the man's question before answering. "Duty, mostly."
"The Frozen Rose made an oath a long time ago to protect the realms from the dark that lies beyond. I don't know if I could say we've been very successful though, and our numbers grow smaller every year."
“We actually talked about that...”Usul says “It was our task to run and distract the undead, so perhaps we should do the running while you get the boy. But... how do you lose them once they are on your heels?” He then grins looking to himself saying “We’re actually quite quick. And have a dog nearby that can make us quicker. Can he get into the Inn as well?”
Velyra shrugs, "you've got it figured out, we just keep running."She points towards any undead in the distance before continuing. "During the day, the only ones we encounter are slow enough to avoid. So long as you don't get yourself cornered you're okay. But at night...Well something else comes out. We've been calling them scythes. They're faster, and have wicked sharp claws on their hands. Going out into the open at night is suicide with them lurking about."
She nods."We should be able to just tie the rope around him. But you need to get to your friends don't you? The entire point is to clear the path for them, that would be a difficult task with the undead following you."
Pondering, Usul says “If you start now you will be running for a long while... Let us sneak to our companions together. From there you lead them to the apothecary and to the Inn. We will distract the undead as we ride around town. Please prepare ropes so that when we arrive at the Inn you can pull us in as quickly as possible.” Usul says, knowing he’s good at making a ruckus to get the attention of the undead. He then starts quietly leading them to the building where Muad is hidden.
