"We'd rather try to follow them and learn what it is they are after, as well as where they call home." Usul says, Dib on his shoulders sniffing the air in agreement.
Still in the alleyway, Sylnora looks through the window herself. "I can get inside and set a spell that will alert me when someone crosses a threshold to get inside...It'll take me a bit to get all of the windows, but if no one is home and you all keep a look out for me, I should be able to get it done."
"This way, we don't need to be literally in view of the house to keep an eye on it so to speak. We can just be walking around nearby."
After thinking on it for a moment, she quietly lets out a curse. "But the spell is only active for about eight hours. Maybe come back later and do it? I feel like if you're going to rob a place, it'll be hours after everyone else is expected to be asleep."
"I think that'll work." Kal says."We can come back in a few hours to lay down the spells, then make ourselves scarce. If we're just watching and following them for now, I think we'll only need a few people close by anyway."
"Do we want to swing by the manor for a bit now, or check out that priest?"
Silthras nods at the suggestion, "I'd say set the place up now, if you can. We dont know when they'll be back. The priest can wait. One can of worms at a time."
Silthras tries to recall the house and its various entry points. "Might take a few hours jus to set up."
He grins and looks at Syl, "It may be worth looking for whatever they are after...perhaps something magical? In fact.... the owners may have protected the house. Checking for that might be the best first step."
Syl bites her lip a she does some quick mental math, crunching the numbers in her head. She shakes her head, "I think we need to wait, at least until nightfall. This city doesn't seem to close up right at sunset. It should only take me about two hours to get everything covered."
"I could go ahead and check for magic auras I guess though....Stop me if someone starts to look at us funny."They were still in broad daylight more or less, though she supposed the alleyway was a bit of cover. She'll ritual cast Detect Magic and take a quick stroll around the house, checking out the entrances for hints of magical traps.
A few people walk past the alley as you're casting the spell, but no one seems to pay particular attention. After the cast you talk a walk around the building. None of the entrances show the tell-tale aura of the arcane. Nothing seems to light up inside the home either.
Velyra blows out a sigh, moving a stray piece of hair out of her face afterwards. "So we come back later tonight then? I'm sure we could find a way to kill some time until then."
If/when Kal mentions the possibility of looking for armour, Silthras looks up. "I'll tag along -- I'd like to inquire as to the cost of something a little more fancy myself."
A quick trip into the Squall Ward comes first, as Kal is easily able to find an armorer selling the equipment he's looking for. Silthras inquiry about specially crafted armor is met with an incredulous laugh as the blacksmith gestures around his shop. "You think you'll be finding mithral in a city like this lad?" Chuckling to himself, the man shakes his head. "You want a special metal like that, you find some rich noble and either rob them or pay them for their piece. Other than that, you'll have to go straight to the source in the Vale of Aestera with a wagon full of gold."
Aestera is another territory that was incorporated in the Evanciean Empire. Also known as the mountain kingdom, it resides in the range that separates the Old Kingdom from its northern territories. The smiths of the Aestera are the stuff of legends, renowned for their skills at the forge. Their techniques are well kept secrets, handed down through the generations. The mines of Aestera run deeper than any other, rich in veins of metals unlike any other - such as mithral.
The highest commanders and most elite of the empire's army are supplied with equipment made in Aestera. Nobles with particular tastes and deep pockets are also known to acquire such weapons and armor.
A quick trip back to Whitecliff is next, where Silthras is able to find the scroll he's looking for quite easily. (250gp price). Afterwards, you spend the rest of your day wandering the city a bit more. Maybe taking a quick rest in a park, or checking out some of the street shops. As night begins to fall, you make your way back to Graystone, and back to the targeted home you found earlier...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
When they get back to the home, Sylnora heads down one of the alleyways. She opens up a telepathic link with Kal, keep an eye out for me. If anyone comes up to the building, let me know. I'm going to be in there for about three hours. After looking around to make sure no one is peering down the alley at her, she looks through one of the windows and casts Misty Step, appearing inside the home. Worried that someone might be home at this point, she then casts Invisibility, and quietly creeps around the home to check all of the rooms to see if someone is there.
If the building is well and truly empty, she'll begin laying down the (ritual cast)Alarm spell on the windows and doors leading outside.
Once Syl is safely inside, Kal turns to the others. "Perhaps we can wait in the park in the back, while Usul's little friend watches the front for us?"
"Once she's done a circuit, we should all move into the house I think." He looks down at the young gnome questioningly, "Perhaps Usul and I can combine our illusuions to cover us while we do that." Remembering the house's door and windows. "A small stack of boxes in front of a window or door might do the trick."
@DM: Two 5'x5'x5' illusions, one above the other, of boxes...Syl opens the door/window from inside (if possible) or Usul does the business while covered by boxes. Then we all walk "past" the boxes and double back though them and into the door/window...all while Dib warns us of passers-by.
"That gets us in, but what happens if we need to get out in a hurry?" Kal says. "I can get out quick the same as her, but the rest of you might be stuck inside if the owner decides to come home."
While they're talking, Kal will quickly relay the discussion to Sylnora.
"The furniture is covered with sheets. Wealthy people have their staff clean the house before returning, so...we may be safe." He looks in the direction of the house. "I'd suggest we get some wedges, unlock everything, then block doors and windows using the wedges. All except one or two which we leave unlocked and unblocked. That way -- if they aren't using the same spell -- we control which way they will come in (or we'll hear bashing), and we can exit easily through any door or window just by removing a wedge."
"We'd rather try to follow them and learn what it is they are after, as well as where they call home." Usul says, Dib on his shoulders sniffing the air in agreement.

Doc: About 4 hours of daylight left. Given what you experienced last night, the city will still be "awake" for about 4-5 hours after that.
(( @DM: and how many windows and doors? ))
Eresh:
1st floor: Two doors. Nine windows
2nd floor: Five windows.
