Cami seems to be more satisfied after Halleth's explanation, but there's still a furrow upon her brow, which she doesn't leave unexplained for long. "I'll get him where he needs to go, but I'll not help in killing any of them. I'd rather ask them why they attacked him, but I'm afraid I can't stop all of you, so I'll just stand back, and that should work. I don't think he's lying, but he may be wrong about what he's told us." Cami's happy to soften her facial expression once that's explained.
She also addresses the button. "I might discover what these do, given enough time, but we were very close to doing something right here. We can look at it later."
Fril shrugs, "When you are pointing an arrow at their throat, people have a funny way of spilling their beans and telling you exactly what happened." He thinks back to his time in the Force and shakes his head with a smile. There was many a criminal that just needed a little 'encouragement' to loosen their tongue.
He nods about the buttons, "Sounds good, let's finish what we came here to do and we'll come back and take a closer look at these buttons when we can."
Fril will wait for Farok and/or Halleth to go first, and then Cami, and finally he'll bring up the rear, hovering five feet above Peek.

Farok had walked up to the map, and was just reaching out towards the buttons when he heard Fril say they’ll come back for it later. Pausing a second with his hand outstretched, he decides to focus on one thing at a time for now. Nodding he takes the lead, heading towards the final bugbear outpost.
(apologies, busy day! oh Farok and the buttons... lolol)
Farok, Halleth says to you "No. Let me go first. Let me prove my trust to you. To you all." and he looks at Cami for that last part as he gently but firmly walks by Farok, taking the lead and heading down the secret path towards the apparent final Xanathar outpost on this level of the dungeon.
You all come to a dead end but with even a moment of investigation it is clear that there is a door here. No rolls were required as this part of the tunnel seems to be used more than the other end.
Halleth would open the door in a normal fashion. one step closer to vengeance he would let each of you cycle to the lead so you could all see the following things:
- The room is approximately 30 ft high.
- A deformed granite statue stands on a large stone column, facing eastward.
- There are numerous hallways branching from this main chamber.
- The sound of squabbling goblins emanates from the tunnel leading north.
- You can see 3 bugbears eating from a sack of directly ahead of you (east).
The bugbears know you are all there. Not because of the noise that you might've made, but for another reason which I will not mention. They actually knew you were coming awhile ago.
So, you now have mere moments before they drop their food and initiative is kicked off.
Please let me know where you would ideally like to go within the chamber, or what you would like to do before initiative, and we will discuss them if need be, and then get this started. (ie. you'd be able to move a bit into the chamber, etc.) You won't be able to make any attacks pre-combat, but you'd be able to at least burst forth from the tunnel before the bugbears get more upset than they currently are and initiate combat.
Fril flies up and out of the small tunnel that they are in, immediately trying to gain as much height as possible. Meanwhile, Peek slips into the shadows of the tunnel and creeps along behind/around the others as they come out of the tunnel, preparing to attack from the darkness.
(Fril)
Action: Dash - Just trying to get as much vertical movement as possible in the room with the 30-foot ceiling

“The mark of a successful DM is when you have caused more player deaths with doors than dragons, demons, or devils.”
(Yep exactly - basically you can tell me what your character would do here, and then I will determine how much of the move your character gets before the moment of initiative kicks in! Cami and Pocket can let me know, and Halleth is just going to rush forward like a crazed person. Which he is. A crazed undead. You could even roll initiative so I have it for when it's time.)
I will roll initiative for the enemies once all of yours come in as to not ruin any surprises...
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cami has many ideas of what she'd like to do, but, knowing the fact that she's running out of the equipment she uses for her machines, she decides to go with a simpler plan and stay behind Farok doing exactly what he's doing with her own shield.
Initiative:10
In this same idea of mimicking something, Pocket stays with Peek. The two smaller members of the team hide together back in the tunnel.
All 3 of the bugbears throw down their food scraps. "OK. That's close enough. Prepare to die, fools." and another one yells out something very loud in goblin. You all hear many goblin voices now yelling and echoing in the hallways.
The bugbears then rush and surround Halleth, taking swings with their morningstars with crazed looks in their eyes.
Attack: 7 Damage: 12
Attack: 5 Damage: 14
Attack: 11 Damage: 11
one of the huge clubs smash into Halleth's rotting body (-14), and he just laughs a sadistic laugh.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Stepping up in front of number 3, Farok grips his sword and takes a deep breath ((rage 7)). As he does so vines and flowers suddenly start to sprout all around him making it difficult for his foes to move. Grinning as this happens, he takes two quick swings at the beast in front of him, not caring to mount a proper defense for after.
Farok, the bugbears look a bit confused at the vines and flowers growing up everywhere, and as #3 looks at the growth around it, your longsword cuts into its body (-18). It yells out in pain as the gashes are quite deep and its armor did nothing to protect it.
Halleth glances at this and smiles at Farok with some undead goo splashed on his face from the wound he just took.
Pocket is up! I will wait to update the map, but assume Farok is directly in front of BB #3.
Pocket flies in quickly, going right up a line of people before stopping for a brief second behind the closest bugbear to it. Pocket then gives said bugbear a pat on the back of the head with its talon, a simple distraction before they keep moving into the next room to see what's inside.
Movement: 15 ft. east, then 15 north. (Pocket's just backing themself on a corner so if there are any enemies there, they have to walk to get to them.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cami's intended turn is to pull up her portable cannon, ignoring the few bits of ash left by the last time it was fired, and then fire a single pellet towards the bugbear right in front of her newest, likely undead, ally. She moves closer first, to make it certain she doesn't risk hitting him instead. She decides to throw it below on the bugbear's feet, as the fire would get to it regardless while Pocket was calling its attention from behind.
Ok, going forward for the help action - in order to grant advantage to the next attacker, you have to stay within 5ft after you help. Exceptions are creatures (I know it's not a creature, I'm just saying!) like Pocket that can initiate the action and then disengage/fly away without an AO.
Either way though, if the enemy's turn is before an allies, then the enemy will have disadvantage on their attack instead of giving the ally advantage.
I should've made this clear before I assumed it was ok to do what I did with Pocket and the air elemental. It is never my intention to force something that the player doesn't want to do. I apologize, and lesson learned.
I do ask though that if something that I do bothers or frustrates you (or anyone), don't wait to say something and perhaps have it linger, especially since it will most definitely happen again if it's something technical that I process in combat. What I am trying to say is - I had no way of knowing that what I did with the air elemental frustrated you, because you didn't tell me.
When you did eventually tell me, I felt it was done in a bit of a condescending passive-aggressive manner.
You know that I truly appreciate the debates with stuff like this with players of your caliber. Big time! Just please initiate it when the said debate topic actually happens in the game going forward so this doesn't happen again. I am bound to make mistakes!
Thank you!
Pocket zooms over the line of people as they hit bugbear 2 with their talons and then flies into the adjacent room in the corner. I have uncovered more parts of the map given Pocket's movement.
You all then hear more deep loud yells and screams from the hallways as well as goblinspeak echoing through the hallway. 5 goblins then emerge from the long northbound hallway, all of them yelling some type of warcry. They are jumping around with crazed looks in their eyes, almost welcoming the upcoming bloodshed.
Cami, the pellet hits the bugbear's feet which causes some pretty intense flames and heat to dance upwards along its body. It yells out in pain.
Fril is up! Then Halleth and then Peek. (Hey Math why don't you go ahead and queue Peek's turn as well)
Fril pulls out his bow, and from his higher vantage point, he fire two quick shots at the bugbears in front of Cami and Farok. Calling out he asks Peek, "Just three bugbears?"
Peek runs under Fril where the goblin fires an arrow at the nearest living bugbear. After shooting, he runs to the right and attempts to hide again. (OOC: Peek wouldn't know that his hide failed.)
Fril, your arrows are dead on. The first one sticks into bugbear 3, piercing its tough hide and also its heart, apparently. The thing falls to the ground, dead. The next arrow comes even faster, sticking into bugbear 2 with fierce velocity. This one doesn't fall, but looks pretty bad given the arrow almost goes through it.
Halleth yells out "HA! One less obstacle towards my vengeance!" as the undead half elf swings both of its fists like a crazed maniac at the bugbear #2, and then at #1 if #2 dies. He also waves his arms around and somehow seems to heal himself a bit. (+10)
Attack: 10 Damage: 10
Attack: 14 Damage: 15
Bugbear #2's head explodes as Halleth punches it. The other fist misses the bugbear #1.
Peek's arrow also flies true, sticking bugbear 1 at a fraction of a second after Halleth's fists fly.
Peek would also respond to Fril: "I... I also hear goblins, boss."
Next, if any of you understand Orc, you'd hear very deep voices from the north hallways. "INTRUDERS? MORE FOOD!" a different voice would boom out "DEFEND XANATHAR FIRST, THEN FOOD." and you hear what sound like huge feet slamming on the ground.
Cami seems to be more satisfied after Halleth's explanation, but there's still a furrow upon her brow, which she doesn't leave unexplained for long.
