As the first two Bugbears drop, Farok moves past his new undead companion and swings at the remaining one, the vines and dark flowers following him. Doing so he calls out to the Goblins he sees coming in, saying, “Your lives have been bargained for! Hold your attacks and you may live!”
Pocket tells Cami telepathically about the absence of any enemies where they went. Cami, even if far away, gives a nod to herself, and then she explains telepathically the next steps to Pocket. The owl will abuse their fast speed to brave new ground forwards, remaining unconcerned by the chance of getting attacked, even though they're flying very close to a whole horde of goblins.
Movement: (Again, I'll have an owl with 120 ft. speed, and I feel it's better to abstract their movements instead of going into detail. Pocket will leave the room the same they came in, and then head north, flying over the goblins' head. They'll then turn east and see what's there before using their remaining movement to return to Cami.)
Farok, your sword cuts through the air and then through the bugbear's armor and flesh as blood flies. The bugbear yells out, but its voice sounds different than the other ones that lay dead on the ground.
Farok, the goblins hear your words, but they still all seem to have crazed looks in their eyes. They raise their scimitars and bows in the air, yelling some goblin speak.
Pocket makes their flight, and I have uncovered the map accordingly. Pocket also did notice the giant creature with 2 heads which I've added to the bestiary tab. It looked very displeased from the view that Pocket got of it. The thing had some pretty bad ass crude looking weapons and seemed pretty big even though it was somewhat behind the corner.
All of the goblins continue to yell out and raise their weapons in the air as they all come forward into the larger room.
Goblin 1 swings wildly at Halleth: Attack: 18 Damage: 3
Goblin 2 at Farok: Attack: 12 Damage: 7
Goblin 3 fires an arrow at Farok: Attack: 21 Damage: 7
Goblins 4 and 5 move forward and then continue to laugh and yell.
Farok, the goblins that made it to you and Halleth looked confused at the vines on the ground. They stopped the other goblins from getting further.
Cami is up then Fril and then Halleth. Peek is after Halleth but Math you can also queue his turn if you'd like.
Fril looks nervously at the barbarian who was just poked by an arrow, but he just shouts down at the goblins, "Wait! We mean you no harm! We only wish to free you from the oppression of the bugbears." After saying this, Fril looks to Peek for some assistance and adds to Halleth, "Don't attack the goblins yet. They may still be swayed." He then fires off two arrows in the direction of the bugbear and flies in closer to get a better look at what was stomping down the corridor.
Move: 30 Feet Left (Flying 30 feet in the air and just to the left of Farok so that Fril can see down the hallway) (Perception (If Needed) - 20)
(Peek)
With that, Peek fires off another arrow in the direction of the bugbear from his hiding position and runs out to see the rest of the goblins and wave his arms frantically. Peek also shouts to the goblins, "NO! Peek here to help! Friends save goblins! No more Bugbears!"
Move: 5 Feet Up (Under Fril's old location)
Action: Attack (Shortbow) (Against Bugbear 1) Attack: 17 Damage: Unable to parse dice roll. (Attack rolled with advantage; ignore if hide attempt failed)
Seeing that there's only one bugbear remaining, Cami decides to slow down and listen to Pocket. She finds a place to hide and then telepathically starts making questions to Pocket about what they saw, and, hearing about the giant up ahead, she uses the description she gets out of Pocket to learn what she can about them.
Movement: 5 ft. southwest (crossing by Peek), then 5 ft. southeast and 5 ft. east
Action: (Improvised) Check for Knowledge
Intelligence Check:24 (+3 for Proficiency if History or Arcana)
(In case is needed. A roll for how well Pocket can describe the creature (unmodified since I don't know what applies here): 17)
(Sorry everyone - a bit busier this week! A little meta, but these goblins are going to be more difficult to sway given they are higher up the ranks and more loyal towards their leaders. Perhaps they are treated better in this section.)
Cami, you move into position and proceed with your telepathic communication. Pocket describes the creature with great detail, and you know exactly the creature that Pocket has seen.
You have either extensively read about or have seen (doubtfully though, right?) an Ettin. You'd know all of this which may or may not be important should you try to interact with the thing. You'd also know pretty much all of it's stat block with that natural 20!
An ettin is a foul, two-headed giant with the crude characteristics of an orc. It never bathes if it can help it, and its thick skin is usually encrusted with a thick layer of dirt and grime beneath the stinking hides it wears. Its long stringy hair hangs in an unkempt mess about its faces, and its breath reeks from mouths filled with crooked teeth and tusks.
The twin heads of an ettin are two individuals trapped in the same brutish body. Each head has its own mind, personality, and name, and possesses unique preferences and quirks. Bound from birth, both minds only rarely experience privacy or solitude. This familiarity breeds contempt, and an ettin bullies and argues with itself constantly, its two heads each taking constant offense at the other’s slights.
When other creatures refer to an ettin, they combine its double names to form a single compound name that applies to the creature as a whole. If an ettin has one head named Hargle and another named Vargle, other creatures call the ettin Harglevargle.
As much as an ettin argues with itself, it is even less tolerant of other ettins, since a conversation between two ettins almost always amounts to a shouting match between a crowd of four belligerent heads. Most ettins are solitary creatures as a result, tolerating one another only to reproduce.
An ettin’s twin heads are always the same gender, with a body to match. Females are the dominant gender among ettins, and they initiate the ettins’ mating rituals. After finding a suitable den, a female ettin hunts and conquers a male, which cares for and feeds her during her six-month pregnancy. Once the child is born, the male ettin is released from servitude. When the child is old enough to hunt for itself, the mother sends it away and abandons the den.
When focused on a mutually beneficial purpose or united by a common threat, an ettin can resolve its personality differences and dedicate itself fully to a task. An ettin fights with a weapon in each hand, making twin attacks directed by its respective heads. When an ettin sleeps, one of its heads remains ever alert, gaining its only moments of privacy and keeping two eyes open for any creature that disturbs its precious solitude.
In ancient dialects of Common, the word “ettin” translates as “ugly giant.” Legends tell of orcs that once stumbled upon a temple to Demogorgon, the magic of which transformed them into giant mockeries of the twin-headed Prince of Demons. Driven to near madness, these creatures scattered into the wilderness to become the first ettins.
Whatever the truth of the ettins’ origin, orcs treat them as distant cousins, and orc tribes often entice ettins to serve as guards, scouts, and marauders. An ettin isn’t particularly loyal to its orc handlers, but the orcs can win it over with the promise of food and loot.
Fril, the goblins continue to shout out in goblin and shake their weapons at you. Halleth looks back (up) at you and kind of grunts. You think he understood and assume he will listen given the deal you've all made with him. Your first arrow hits the bugbear in the heart and it falls instantly. You pause for a split moment, and notice one of those brainy creatures expel itself from the bugbear's corpse! Almost at the same time, you launch another arrow which sticks into the devourer. (-2)
Halleth grunts again at Fril about the goblins, and then seems to heal himself again like last time (+10). He then without hesitation tries to bring both fists down on the little brain to try and crush it. "Oh no you don't."
Attack: 25 Damage: 7
Attack: 23 Damage: 14
Both of his fists just nail the little brain. (-10)
Peek's arrow sticks into the devourer as well (-4). The enemy goblins do not seem to listen to Peek even though he is one of their own kind.
The giant creature that Cami knows about starts to speak again, its heads talking to each other as it starts to plod forward. "Krung-Jung not awake yet! Wait here until come!" and then "NO! FOOD HERE NOW!" (if you don't speak giant or orc then you wouldn't understand this back and forth. If you understand one of them, then that is the language they are speaking)
Farok will recklessly swing at these goblins, hoping to hit them with the side of his blade, to keep them from dying.
reckless, but non lethal attacks - seems a bit antithetical eh? :P Attack: 25 Damage: 9 Attack: 20 Damage: 7
remember also that creatures within 15ft of Farok are in ‘difficult terrain’ due to his vines and dark flowers, so approaching may be difficult in a turn.
Cami's intel on the creature up ahead was deep, she's quick to share what she knows. "There's an Ettin further in. They're two-headed giants, and... I don't think they'll be able to understand Common." She'd love to tell all that she knows, but there's only so much time during a fight, and she seems scared when she sees another Intellect Devourer.
Cami sends Pocket to flap their wings close to the Intellect Devourer, a preparation for her attack soon to come. The owl returns to their owner's shoulder, while Cami's reloading her portable cannon to launch fire on the Intellect Devourer on her turn.
Movement: 5ft. east, then 5ft. southeast, then 5 ft. east again.
Action: Helpthe next attack against the Intellect Devourer.
Movement: 5ft. west, then 5ft. southwest. Then, land on Cami's shoulder.
Farok, you smack goblin 1 with the flat of your sword, which instantly KO's it. You also smack goblin 2 and it stuns him for a split moment but it doesn't quite knock it out.
(thank you for the reminder about the vines! I appreciate it)
Pocket flies over to the devourer and flaps its wings over the little brains head and then returns to Cami's shoulder. The brain seemed to be quite annoyed (and distracted) by this.
Goblin 2 tries to swing back at Farok, with the intention to cut him. Attack: 11 Damage: 3 and the weapon misses.
Goblin 3 moves through the vines and flowers and just barely gets in front of the barbarian as it also swings its scimitar, yelling a warcry at the same time that sounds something like 'Xanathar'. Attack: 18 Damage: 7. this time the sword cuts Farok and the goblin's eyes widen at the sight of the blood. *half damage
Goblin 4 moves forward a bit and gets a bit tangled in the vines and does not do anything else except look up at Fril.
Goblin 5 also moves forward, this one yelling in common "Kill! Kill! Kill!"
Cami is up! Then Fril and Peek could queue their turns as well.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As Pocket's flying back and the Devourer is feeling the wind over its face, Cami's cannon activates launching a flammable pellet to lit up the Devourer in flames. Her intention then is to really get its attention by walking right over to its personal space and even trying to stomp it if she cans.
Movement: 10 ft. east. (Then, I want to abstract something here. The rules explain that you can't enter an enemy's space because they control their space, even if it's bigger than them. But, what if I tried it anyway? It's not a physical impossibility, after all. That's what I want to do. I want to step inside of the Devourer's space, and if that means getting hit with an Attack of Opportunity, that's okay, as long as I get its attention.)
OOC: Dice rolls glitched... I definitely typed 1d20+7 for the attack roll of Fire Bolt, but the actual roll was 2d10+1d8 followed by another 2d10+1d8 roll... I have no idea how it happened, but as soon as I tried to edit I got the manipulated dice rolls thing. Right now, the results are (Attack: 25Damage: 17), but I'll roll again just in case that's what we'd rather do.
Hearing that there is a greater threat approaching from Cami, and seeing her dispatch the Intellect Devourer quickly flies high over the goblins and around the corner towards the sound. Firing two arrows in quick succession, he returns back as far as he can towards the group to hopefully stay out of this creature's reach. As he returns, he shouts down again to the goblins, "Attacking us is suicide. Look at what happened to your comrade! Put your weapons down."
(OOC: I assumed that 17 unresisted damage would kill the brain bugger, but if not, then just redirect Fril's attacks to the Intellect Devourer and ignore his movement.)
Bonus Action: None
Move: 20 Feet North and then 5 Feet Northeast and then 5 Feet East (Ending up just around the first corner, 15 feet south of the bottom left corner of the monster)
Move: 10 Feet West and then 10 Feet South (Ending up flying 30 feet above Goblin 5)
Free Action: Talking - Persuasion: 17 (Advantage from Peek's help action)
(Peek)
Refusing to hurt his people (even nonlethally) Peek just keeps talking to the goblins and attempting to calm them down as best he can. "No! Please stop! Peek with friends! Friends help goblins! Make goblins in charge!" However, hearing about a monster further in, he repositions a bit after pleading with the goblins and rushes to find a place where he can see the monster coming.
Move: 10 Feet South and then 5 Feet Southeast and then 25 Feet East (Ending on the southeastern corner of this room so that he can see past three goblins down the hallway)
Cami, the pellet lands on the brain and the thing goes right up into flames, burning up into a charred black ball. Fried. (The devourer is dead so I kept Cami where she is, please let me know if you wanted to move her and I will do it. No problem about the dice roller, I hate when it does that, and I'll just take the original ones if you guys see/remember them each time this happens. No need to reroll.)
Fril, you fly forward and into the wider hallway. You now get a real good look at this two-headed giant. It looks at you as the two arrows stick into it's disgusting body. (-11) The heads both yell out a bit and then growl in anger.
((I was looking for 18 for these goblins, and with the Peek natural 1 coming up after the fail, it will likely now be impossible to persuade them. To help with RP, Peek will be very upset if his own kind die and very sad afterwards, and he will not kill them himself, but if it means his life or theirs, he'll side with his new friends. They have saved his life after all))
Halleth steps over the KO'd goblin and then closer to the hallway. He looks at his fists, and sees that the party has advised to KO the goblins. He thinks he will crush their little heads if he swings at them, and doesn't want to take the chance. must keep friends happy so I can get my vengeance. he goes against the wall, readying himself to charge at the creature that Cami explained once these annoying goblins move one way or another. He looks at the goblins knowing they won't be able to hurt him and watches in the moment what his comrades do. He decides he'll try and get the little goblins to attack him instead of his new comrades.
Peek, one of the goblins responds in common "BAHAHAHAHA! That Peek! I know Peek! PEEK WEAK! Kill Kill Kill! Defend Xanathar!" Peek then gets into position and readies the arrow if the ettin comes into view.
The ettin swats the two arrows that are stuck in its body off, likely breaking them, and stomps down to the end of the large hallway. It seems to be having an argument with itself. One seems to want to chase the intruders, and one seems to want to not. This is all in giant speak.
Another one of these giants comes into view at the end of the wide hallway, slamming its huge weapons together. Both of its heads are very very irate. It looks like they just woke up.
Next Round: Farok, Pocket, Goblins, Cami, Fril, Halleth, Peek, Ettins
Farok will continue his assault on the nearest goblins, hoping to simply knock them out so Peek can become their new king, and frustrated that he cannot move closer to the monsters in the back.
again recklessly Attack: 21 Damage: 13 Attack: 26 Damage: 13 round 3 (right?) - tracking for rage.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Cami knows she's a bit unprepared for the Ettin(s), so she comes up with a quick plan that might be able to help them. After moving in a better position, she lets the portable cannon she was using fall to the ground because it'd get in the way. Then, she takes the malfunctioning Protector out of her Bag of Holding, puts it down on the floor, and starts working on it with whatever materials she has on there, probably wasting some of the resources she could direct to some other of her inventions. She's so quick in her fixing the cannon still activates.
Movement: 5 ft north-east (diagonal) and then 10 ft. east. (Pocket comes with because they're on her.)
Action: Build Protector Cannon on the floor 5 ft. northeast of her position. (Using a spell slot)
Bonus Action: Activate Protector Cannon.
10temp HP to every ally within 10 ft. of the cannon. (Now, in-story, I have no idea how to justify why the goblins aren't getting it as well. It defies common sense since I decided to stick with the "no magic" rule, and that might be the answer, the goblins just get temp HP as well. Part of the problems of sticking with the "no magic" rule.)
Goblins 4 and 5 look up at Fril and wave their swords around and then swing them at Halleth.
Attack: 8 Damage: 3
Attack: 6 Damage: 7
The goblins swords clank against the wall. Halleth smiles.
(Pertuie thanks for the summary in the OOC about who gets the temp HP - that is very helpful and appreciated)
I am good with the goblins not getting the temp hp. I see what you're saying about it not making sense especially with the 'no magic' rule, but I think that part of the tinkering with the cannon that Cami does actually includes tweaking the functionality of it in such a way that it effects only allies. it is a very slight tweak that Cami makes to the device. A very precise thing that would only be possible with many hours of learning about and working on the cannon (so it can still stick with the actual ally rule and still kinda make sense).
All of the party members that are affected feel the healing energies of Cami's protector cannon.
Pertuie I added a cannon icon, if you have one you want me to use please send and I will replace.
Fril is up! (You could also queue up Peek if you'd like.)
Fril flies back in, although staying well above the Ettin's reach, and fires twice more at the giant before retreating again to note its position back to the party. Seeing that the goblin's are now mostly unconscious and trusting Farok to knock the rest out, he calls back to Peek, "Get ready for a big one!"
Move: 10 Feet North (Should End 10 Feet to the West of the Ettin and 30 Feet above it)
Move: 25 Feet South (Ending 30 Feet above the Protector Cannon)
Free Action: Inform the party of the Ettin's location and instruct Peek
(Peek)
Following Fril's directions, Peek runs down and hides behind a corner before poking out and preparing to shoot at anything that pops out of the hallway behind the goblins.
Move: 5 Feet South then 5 Feet East (Ending in the little alcove made by the T-Junction)
Action: Ready (Attack) (Trigger: Ettin or other hostile creature steps into hallway and into view) (Against Ettin) Attack: 26 Damage: 8 (Rolled with advantage; Disregard if hide action failed)

Maps are updated.
As Pocket's flying back and the Devourer is feeling the wind over its face, Cami's cannon activates launching a flammable pellet to lit up the Devourer in flames. Her intention then is to really get its attention by walking right over to its personal space and even trying to stomp it if she cans.
Action: [Tooltip Not Found] Fire Bolt
(Against Intellect Devourer) - Attack: 25 Damage: 13
If the Devourer is still alive after that:
Movement: 10 ft. east. (Then, I want to abstract something here. The rules explain that you can't enter an enemy's space because they control their space, even if it's bigger than them. But, what if I tried it anyway? It's not a physical impossibility, after all. That's what I want to do. I want to step inside of the Devourer's space, and if that means getting hit with an Attack of Opportunity, that's okay, as long as I get its attention.)

(Fril)
Action: Attack (Longbow)
(Against Ettin) Attack: 12 Damage: 6
(Against Ettin) Attack: 24 Damage: 5
Free Action: Talking - Persuasion: 0
Bonus Action: Dash (Cunning Action)
Move: 10 Feet South and then 5 Feet Southeast and then 25 Feet East (Ending on the southeastern corner of this room so that he can see past three goblins down the hallway)
Action: Ready (Attack: Shortbow) (Trigger: If/When the Ettin becomes visible)
Attack: 12 Damage: 8

Farok is up! Maps are updated.
Farok will continue his assault on the nearest goblins, hoping to simply knock them out so Peek can become their new king, and frustrated that he cannot move closer to the monsters in the back.
again recklessly
Attack: 21 Damage: 13
Attack: 26 Damage: 13

The flat of Farok's blade hits goblins 2 and 3, knocking them both out.
Pocket is up, and then the goblins, and then Cami. I will update the map after the next turns!
((Pocket to hold action - goblins will be attacking - Cami can queue her turn! I should be able to process later this AM))
Free: Drop Arcane Firearm.
Interaction: Take Smith's Tools
Action: Build Protector Cannon on the floor 5 ft. northeast of her position. (Using a spell slot)
Bonus Action: Activate Protector Cannon.
10 temp HP to every ally within 10 ft. of the cannon.

Maps are updated.
(Fril)
Fril flies back in, although staying well above the Ettin's reach, and fires twice more at the giant before retreating again to note its position back to the party. Seeing that the goblin's are now mostly unconscious and trusting Farok to knock the rest out, he calls back to Peek, "Get ready for a big one!"
Move: 10 Feet North (Should End 10 Feet to the West of the Ettin and 30 Feet above it)
Action: Attack (Longbow)
(Against Ettin) Attack: 21 Damage: 12
(Against Ettin) Attack: 11 Damage: 11
Bonus Action: None
Move: 25 Feet South (Ending 30 Feet above the Protector Cannon)
Free Action: Inform the party of the Ettin's location and instruct Peek
(Peek)
Following Fril's directions, Peek runs down and hides behind a corner before poking out and preparing to shoot at anything that pops out of the hallway behind the goblins.
Move: 5 Feet South then 5 Feet East (Ending in the little alcove made by the T-Junction)
Bonus Action: Hide (Cunning Action - Stealth: 14)
Move: 5 Feet West (Ending inside the T-Junction)
Action: Ready (Attack) (Trigger: Ettin or other hostile creature steps into hallway and into view)
(Against Ettin) Attack: 26 Damage: 8
(Rolled with advantage; Disregard if hide action failed)
