Nephris nods, "Let's continue. While these riddles have been fun, it would be nice to finish this and return home to enjoy the remainder of the day." He follows up the stairs.
You ascend the stairs up to the next floor and come out to a room that looks like it has been ransacked. A large golden rug depicting a world is at the centre of the chamber. The rug is flanked by two, semi-circular desks littered with alchemical supplies, tools and journals. There are three doors set into the southern wall. At the north end of the room stand four copper cylinders fed by various tubes. Each cylinder appears to have a small door set into its front. Red ichor seeps out from the bottom of the doors onto the stone floors around the cylinders.
However, you are not alone on this floor. In front of you can see the lich, Dresden, himself.
"Wrong! Wrong! All wrong!" he curses as you step into the laboratory. Spotting you from the corner of his eye, he spins around to face you.
"You!" he shouts pointing a finger at Cade. "I thought I got rid of you! And yet you come back with comrades I see!"
Suddenly Desdesn begins to wave his hands around in the air, and mutters an incarnation. Suddenly a yellow-green fog begins to fill the room as Dresden casts cloudkill. The poisonous cloud fills the room obscuring everything in the room.

As Nephris sees the lich beginning to cast a spell, he reacts quickly, casting Counterspell (5th level) to interrupt the spell.
"Now let's rather have a conversation, hmm?" Nephris says after he counters, "What could possibly be so wrong to upset you so? Perhaps if we took our things back, that might help?"
(OOC: We have done a lot but not sure how much time has passed. Is there any chance that some of Best's spirit guardians spell is left? It lasts 10 minutes. )
Nephris casts counterspell to counter the cloudkill spell. As the cloud begins to harmlessly dissipate you catch a glimpse of Dresden disappearing before your very eyes. Then you hear the sound of groaning coming from behind you, as the doors to the cylinders begin to open.

Nephris lets out a shrill whistle as he looks at each of the creatures. The sound is piercing and almost painful to hear, but doesn't seem to affect the party members as much as it is aimed at the creatures emerging from the cylinders.
