After some discussion, the party is led into the farmhouse by Sergeant Walsh. There, a horrible scene is before them. 

The broken door opens into a living room, where two dead bodies are splayed on the ground in a pool of blood. They are of a middle-aged man and a young woman, the uncle and cousin the boy had mentioned. Even their faces in death are affixed in gazes of absolute terror. 

(@Everyone. WIS Save DC 13 or Gain 4) Stress

Sergeant Walsh covers his nose with a handkerchief in an attempt to alleviate the sickening smell of death. "It's not pretty, alright. You folks are free to take a look around, but come back to me if you find anything of interest."

 A staircase, which Limine recognizes as the one the boy descended, contains a trail of blood that goes up. Adjacent to the living room is the kitchen, which Slurb decides to investigate.

The kitchen is quite nice, containing an icebox stocked with plenty of food. He does notice a partially opened cabinet, prominently displaying a line of sharp silver knives. However, whoever opened the cabinet seems to have changed their mind, as none of the knives were taken from it. 

(@Jack. Jack is heading up to Rutherford's room?)

Limine glances over the bodies. They're not very different than what she saw in the boy's mind. A horrible sight indeed, but not a surprising one. The trail of blood is new, however. The bodies were dead, and the boy was not injured. What created the trail? She decides to follow it, see where it leads.

The sight of blood make Vadania restless she has to struggle to hold the werewolf from taking over.

Sulskan manages to look away from the bodies and hold his stomach as well as his mind. They are fortunate to have found death's loving embrace albeit in a gruesome way.

Deciding to take a more direct approach to the investigation, and being one of the few who was able to resist the effects of the bodies, Sulskan approaches the bodies and investigates them closer to see what exactly caused the wounds and if it was the wounds that killed them or some sort of other poison that may have been administered through the wounds.

Jack and Vadania head upstairs to the Rutherford's bedroom. An open window lets in a cold gust of air, blowing the curtains aside. The bedroom consists of a single king-sized bed and a wooden drawer.

Jack notices a few pieces of paper on the wooden drawer. On taking a closer look, one appears to be a birth certificate for a "Silvia Rutherford," born two months prior to this day. A hand-written note is paper-clipped to the birth certificate. 

"Please do not be overly concerned about your baby daughter. Though she is suffering from a rare birth defect, I assure you that she is in perfect health. Still, please visit me in the Sanitarium in the coming months for a few more appointments- just a precaution, in case anything goes astray. 

I hope to hear from you soon."

The note appears to be unsigned. 

Downstairs, Sulskan take a closer look at the gruesome scene. And while he isn't completely trained in medicine, he realizes something quite obvious. The uncle and cousin have no scratch or bite marks on them. Instead, something attacked them with brute force, bludgeoning them to death. That's all he can grasp from this scene...

Jack reads the note, shows it to Vadania and then pockets it. He makes a mental note to check in at the Sanitarium once they make it back to town.

"Think Papa made a deal with the devil to cure his daughter of something sinister?" 

He raises his eyebrow and looks at Vadania

Scratching his head, the constant whisperings in his mind prevent Sulskan from focusing on the scene in front of him and his investigations don't turn up many clues. Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he heads upstairs to join the rest of the group.

(Spoiler is for DM regarding what is happening in Sulskan's mind)

Vadania reads the note and says, "I am not entirely sure. 2 month old baby with a strange birth defect. It is quite strange. I am not entirely sure if it warrants a deal such as that but I take it that we will find out once we visit the establishment."

 Slurb decides to check the kitchen again.

Investigation: 8

Slurb continues investigating the kitchen, but nothing else seems to be of note. The Rutherfords maintain a rather neat cooking space, and there's no strange or dark items anywhere. 

Limine takes a closer look at the trail of blood and sees that it's a set of bloody footprints, which lead upstairs. The footprints lead to a small, colorfully decorated nursery. There are several slates containing childish chalk drawings of dragons scattered through the room. An empty wooden crib contains several messy blankets, giving the impression that it was recently slept in. Beneath the crib is a pair of baby's shoes, while toys and blocks have been neatly stacked up on the floor. 

Sergeant Walsh approaches the party and says, "The Inquisitors are getting impatient. Is there anything else you need to do here? Else, we can begin cleaning up the scene and let the priests do their rituals." 

"Just a moment. There's one last thing I want to investigate." Limine looks at the footprints, trying to figure what made them. 

Investigation: 18

If the footprints look like shoes, as Jack mentioned before, Limine will look for shoes in Rutherford's room and will try to compare their size.

Slurb heads up stairs, and looks in the crib, looking for blood or anything similar.

Limine takes a closer look at the bloody footprints, which are similar to the tracks Jack discovered outside. Whatever left them had a bare left foot and was wearing a boot on it's right. She soon finds another set of boots in Rutherford's room (farmers usually have a few) and compares them. The bootprints seem to match the size of Rutherford's shoes perfectly, though strangely, bare footprints are significantly larger and wouldn't be able to fit at all. 

Slurb notes that the crib doesn't have any blood on it, and if a baby was indeed taken from it, it must have happened rather peacefully. 

(What are you guys doing next?) 

"The footprints seem to validate your theory about Rutherford. Well, I'm done. I think it's time to follow that trail you found."

Vadania states, "All the evidence seems to point to Farmer Rutherford suffering from some curse or a very strange kind of lycanthropy. We should very much invest in silver weapons."
