Kane sees the young girl and steps back. The memories of the attack come rushing back. He tries to block them out, but he can’t. The blood, the death, the madness...he walks away for a moment, clearing his mind. He comes back. “The halfings are trying to get into the forest, correct? I would propose that would be the first place to look, but I agree with Grumm. We should from out longer journey. I will...pray...to my patron. Perhaps she may have some advice on this situation.”
Evas steps back, all the light in him seems to disappear. "Many younglings such as her, all trying to... Trying to get in the forest, and if they can't, k-kill themselves?" Evas puts his hand to his chest. "I will make sure that we discover the problem and fix it. First, I have to ask a few questions. Has she and the other victim attacked you? Did anything happen before the nightmares started happening? Is the nightmare the same every night, or is it a different and new maddening nightmare each night? And last, if you are fine with telling us, could you tell us some of the contents of the nightmares?"
"Not just younglings. Anyone on the Mound can, and has be affected by the nightmares' call," She replies dourly, "And, yes, they have attacked me and anyone else that tried to stop them. If anything happened before the nightmares started, we didn't notice. The nightmare is the same every night and everyone has the same nightmare every night. It has everyone in the village gathered inside this temple, sitting in the chairs, with bloody holes where their eyes would be, crying tears of blood."

"Yes, they are trying to get into the forest, but not just halflings. Anyone that lives here will eventually be affected, whether a stoutling, dwarf, half-elf, or any other humanoid,"She corrects, "Check with your patron. I will welcome any otherworldly help."
Kane steps back and performs the small pray the priests of Inferna showed him before he left. “Oh mighty Inferna, Lady if Flame, hear my pray...these people need your help, and I ask for your advice.” After waiting several minutes, Kane assumes that he will not heed him, but he feels somewhat reassured that they can figure it out. He comes back with the group. “My patron was unresponsive. I am sorry. But I believe we can figure this out together.” He rubs Ivory’s head.
Ivory chirps softly at the the affection, having been listening and observing everything in silence. Despite his young and innocent aura, his eyes show deep sorrow, feeling deeply for the people of this place and their suffering. He wants to help, but hasn’t the foggiest idea of how as his life experience has been minimal compared to everyone else present. He looks up at Kane, then at Ebony.

“They are hurting. And there were young ones too. Little like me. We need to help them.....”
Ebony looks down at the wyrmling, placing a hand on his head.

"He is saddened by the state of you and your people, especially the anguish of your children. Ivory wishes to help you all to the best of his ability, as I will strive to do as well," Ebony says looking at Zayva. "We have known our fair share of tragedy. You have all endured this horror long enough on your own, we will see that it does not continue, Io willing."
Ebony looks at the rest of the group. "We should finish asking any lingering question, then check around town before coming up with a plan."

She nods, looking curiously at Ivory, "Perhaps Ivory could help cheer up the children. Take their minds off of the recent horrors. This could help improve the morale. Until night, there's not much you can do. The rest of you could rest now. Prepare what you must for your journey into the woods."

Ash, who has been silent so far, finally speaks up. His voice is soft, to avoid disturbing anyone else "Is it always when they are asleep that the change comes upon them? If so, have you tried keeping them awake?"

“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
She nods solemnly, "Yes, it is always when they are asleep. We have to sleep eventually, or else we will die, and the children need to sleep more than the adults."

Ash looks her in the eyes "The children are dying either way. Keep them awake as long as you can, let them sleep in turn in small groups and have them watched. If they show any signs of dreams, any at all, wake them. Grumm, can you make a tonic that will suspend their tendency to rest?" He starts to pace, slowly "You say the children try to run? Do you know where yet?"

Zayva replies, "We have been keeping them up as much as we can. As soon as they fall asleep is when they start sleep walking. We have not dared to follow them yet when they begin sleep walking, we were waiting for you to do that."

"It's normally just one,"She says, "But one night it was two people, and another night when we stopped someone, two others left. We will lock everyone indoors tonight and let them sleep, and we will alert you whenever someone begins to leave."

(Presumably to a place where we might rest up a little before the night's excursion, though I don't imagine any of us will be sleeping here any time soon.)
She nods and says, "We typically don't have much open space, but recently . . . We can fit you in somewhere for the next few hours."
She then exits the building and beckons you to follower her as she approaches a set of houses fairly close to the temple (about 60 feet away). The houses are all small, halfling-sized cottages built for the size of a medium-sized family. She sends a couple of you into each house (including Ivory), telling you to rest up, socialize, and do whatever else you need to do before the night.
