Ash comes down from her shift digging. She glares at Korrik saying “I’ve marked where I’ve gotten to... and if there’s been no progress by the time I take over again, I’ll think you’re not pulling your weight!”. ((rolling a 1 on STR... honestly!)). She drops her mock-stern expression and pokes him in the ribs (with only a tiny bit of claw) and laughs.
”What’s that? Willard awake? Oh nice...”.
She will use all the tried-and-tested deception, persuasion and intimidation techniques. Maybe Korrik helps to give advantage??
She will play bad-cop and leave Korrik to ask his questions initially. But at some point she would want to know who in The Varried Trades they were involved with, so she can makes sure to avoid them (and/or smooth things over with them) if their paths cross in the near future.

"Yes, Ess. Think we should get some lunch. I'm sure the other two are fine!"
((Ben also wanted a set of studded leather, whatever color, but preference plain brown if Kester has any.
Weapons sold at the market instead is fine! Would there have been any bolts of silk for sale or casks of brandy? He would like to check the prices of each.
Does Winston have the caltrops and ball bearings and the rest of the things Ash wanted?))
((@Spider, you want to roll that sleight of hand or survival for skinning the basilisk that Klein asked for? Ben would have given you bardic inspiration för the check as well.))
((Probably makes the most sense for Korrik to make the skinning check, Ben's been pretty hands off when possible regarding skinning and the like. Would Ess be able to help out, holding the hide back as Korrik cuts, etc. to get advantage? I'll roll it, but if not, can just take the first roll. 15))
((what, it's Friday already?! Pace slowed down a bit here but still aiming to get at least one big post in a day for both games!))
Korrik, with Ess's help you're able to cut a nice piece of leather which is in top condition for Kiorna’s purposes. She would've paid 300gp for this hide. She will pay different amounts for different creatures. Smaller creatures with a small hide or weaker beasts do not interest her.
Korrik you're able to make a great breakfast from the foodstores in this hideout. Willard starts to mumble and is slobbering out of the gag as he tries to respond to Korrik. Then Ash comes in and her and Korrik get to the questioning. They use a variety of techniques, good cop bad cop as mentioned seems to work great! With that roll, Willard is going to give you all of the information he knows. Heck, it could've been a lot lower given the situation he is in!
- Ash, he says the gang is relatively 'small time'. They are not affiliated with any broader group or order or affiliation. They have money and are successful at their little operation, but it's nothing more than their 1 ship operation. He thinks, anyway. (remember, Willard is low man on the pole)
- Korrik, he'd say that the name of the vessel, Sea Ghost, is painted on both sides of the prow. It has a length of nearly 90 feet, a beam of 26 feet, a draft of 8 feet, and stands 9 feet above the waterline to the top of its main deck rails and 17 feet above the waterline to the top of both its forecastle and poop deck. A jolly boat is lashed upside down on the main deck. Normal doors are 6 feet high, 4 feet wide, and of stout wood construction. This would be in between the good cop/bad cop questioning and would come out much smoother. hahaha!
- He'd say there's the captain 'Snake Eyes', his 3 officers, 7 crew, and sometimes any number of lizardfolk depending on the amount of weapons needed to be loaded on/off. He doesn't see the captain or officers rarely or if at all, so no more info about them. Oh, he said one of them is a wizard.
- He's never heard of the Wave Widow.
With those strength rolls, you didn't make too much progress with the digging, but at least the hole is started. Sorry I forgot, was it near the house? Or garden? Or closer to the cliff? (Just morbidly curious is all. lol)
Hanna replies "You'll want to talk to Eliander Fireborn then. Captain of the town guard. You can likely find him at the council hall most days along with the rest of the politicians." she rolls her eyes. "Have a good day boys, and see you both tomorrow eve! Ben, it should be a full house so I hope you have something ready!" she smiles and gets back to work.
Council hall is #14 on the town map.
Mafera would explain that she frequently gets questions about how a human came into ownership of such fine dwarven tools. The new dwarven mining teams have been especially curious about this since they've been arriving into town with the booming mining industry. The truth is, her son and her came across this forge in the most honest way. The previous operators simply left town, and the mayor (likely the wrong word) had ads out looking for a qualified smith to come move here. So, she thought it was the perfect opportunity for her and her son to start their business here. They do get some trouble from time to time from the dwarves unfortunately.
Winston says that you might want to talk so someone at council about the lizardfolk as it seems like a valid concern! When you start to talk about crime and being a victim etc. with your roll he kind of gets quiet and then says that he's had a blessed life and that it's lunch break and dismisses you both.
Xendros says "Indeed we are, my friend!" . Ben, you think you have heard of Luz as a diety but you aren't sure. "Maybe you should come to the realm of luz and find out, friend."
She's basically ignoring Ess at this point.
She explains all of the details of her business. She has magic items for sale and can also broker the sale of magic items. ->
Xendros asks for a 50 gp retainer to engage her services as an item broker each week, and the process consumes a character’s effort for a week as it involves multiple meetings to haggle over prices, specific desired features, and so on. If you pay the retainer, some rolls will be made and I display what magic items she has available.
If you want a specific item, Xendros can fulfill a request for an item from Table F or Table G from: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dmg/treasure#RandomMagicItems with 1d4 weeks of work. Her asking price is based on the item’s rarity, as given in the table below, but she might also be willing to part with an item in return for a favor.
Xendros is always on the lookout for items she can buy for resale. Completing the transaction takes a week of effort from the character; before the deal can be made final, Xendros uses her magic to ensure that the item is authentic and arranges for a ship in port to transport the item to her home lands.
Oops, sorry studded leather 45gp, plain brown
There would've been both bolts of silk and brandy at the market, and you would've seen 50gp for a bolt of silk, and 10gp for a barrel of booze.
No caltrops or at the markets either, but ball bearings yep! Ash, remind me what else you needed?
As always, let me know if I missed anything! Thanks for the reminders about the missed stuff Rod
((So 100 gold a piece to Kay, Ben and Ess for the hide then.))
After Ess and Ben eat lunch, keeping their business to Hanna's establishment they would head to town hall asking after Eliander Fireborn.
--
Ben gives Xandros a smile and a bow,
"I might take you up on that some day! I am, as you say, an adventurer. Until then we'll have to make things as pleasant as we can here. If you are interested I will be doing a performance tomorrow night at the Line. I would be most pleased to see you there!"

He looks over at Ess given Winston's reply but doesn't press it.
((You didn't miss much Klein! Ben is all over the place in town running errands, it is hard to keep track of everything.))
((Whatever Ben ‘gets/remembers/they have’ is fine for this trip... She’ll get more kitted (kittied) out when she manages to get around town herself. Thanks)).
ooh... but Ash would have impressed on Ben to get two ‘clean’ daggers for sure!! :-)
Ash pulls Korrik aside (out of hearing range of Willard and the skeleton room), and asks quietly, “What are we going to do with these smugglers, eh?... The boss? Maybe he’s a different kettle of fish. But they others seem like small-fry.... “. She looks over her shoulder and around the room and back.
“Look, we can run this past Ben and Ess, but I say we get them each out in turn, like this. ...We suss out if they are going to cause us a problem. Then, we tell them the others are going to be killed but we’re letting them free”.
”We tell them to start a new life far from here... we give them two gold and send them on their way... ...telling them if we see them around Marshswamp again, we’ll kill them”.
”Then we let them run, an hour or so between each.... I’m not sure about the boss, but if he cowers enough, maybe him too”.
"I think Ben's the one to make that play, he can really sell it... especially if we're backing him. But yeah, let's see what they say. Don't want them tipping off the ship and putting them on alert..."

The lunch is 3sp. The prices for meals say per day, but that's silly if you keep coming back so let's say we pay each time.
You then head to the council hall (#14). This large brick building contains the offices of the town council and the chamber where they meet to discuss the town business. The hall is built from sturdy stone from the nearby cliffs and a variety of hardwood from the nearby forests. A wooden sign depicting a net filled with fish hangs above the double doors leading into the hall. A small tower rises from the building, housing a horn at the top, which is blown to announce the beginning of a council session or other significant events. You head this a few times earlier as you were walking in the market.
Inside, you indeed find Eliander. I've added him to the NPC tab. Eliander walks upon a finely carved wooden peg. Despite his injury and advancing age, the burly captain of the Marshswamp town guard remains an imposing figure. He will ask of your business. "G'day. Ye here for work gents?"He's not put off by Ben at all.
Xandros says "I've no time for that type of thing. Should you want to do business, or visit luz one day, do come back." she gives kind of a wicked grin.
The daggers will be 2gp each for Ash! Rations are 5sp a piece.
All of the KO'd smugglers are now awake, and Korrik and Ash I think can make another STR check to see how the afternoon digging sessions go.
"Good day to you as well. We're new to town and we're trying to get a feel for the place. We were speaking to Hanna from the (inn name) and she mentioned there were a lot of thefts in Saltmarsh. We have a carriage and would appreciate if you're guards keep an eye on it while it's in town."
He lets that sit a moment before continuing,
"So far as work goes, do you have an idea who is doing the stealing? This is a small enough place you'd notice people trying to sell stolen things back, so I would guess that means it is being transferred elsewhere to be sold? Via boat? Do you need help dealing with them? I'm not much of a fighter but I am good at asking questions and my friends are okay in a scrape."
Then,
"Oh, and we met a man that said the lizardfolk were getting riled up? We asked Winston about it and he sent us to speak with you."
((Korrik was just hungry this morning! He's all fueled up and looking to prove Ash wrong! Would like to have take a short rest during the day, to have his ki back.))
Ash comes down from her shift digging. She glares at Korrik saying “I’ve marked where I’ve gotten to... and if there’s been no progress by the time I take over again, I’ll think you’re not pulling your weight!”.
