Stepping off the boat onto the dock, and hearing the cheers, Ash will walk proudly through town with her cloak thrown back over her shoulders and her hood down. She would wave and make the occasional gracious bow.
She would listen closely to the interrogations but not contribute or interfere, treating it more as closure, than something she wants to meddle in further. Happy for discussions and sentencing to take its course, but interested to see the local procedures.
Like Ben, Ash’s preference would be to leave Oceana out of the next stage. The language barrier is perhaps too much of a liability if they need to think on their feet.
If they take the job (after a couple of days rest to consider it and any options), she would far prefer a land route. Despite their recent success at sea, Ash is not ‘a natural’ on the water, and much prefers dry land beneath her feet than the deck of a boat. Besides, the salt water does nothing for her hair.
After the meetings, Ash would like to rest ((short or maybe even long rest?)) for the afternoon after some food, then join the party for the evening if Ben plans to perform or tell their story, and then sleep for the night. ((taking lvl 4)).

Lizardfolk Insight: 12
• They offered to lead us to the queen... there could be pros and cons there, but too much of that depends on them. There could be some sort of signal that approaching folks need to give or be attacked, but if that's the case they could just as easily give a signal to attack us. As long as we know how to get there, we don't need them to make introductions, since we can't trust their goodwill. At least, not outside of returning them with all of their weapons.
Town Council Insight: 16
• Korrik is down to help further with the lizardfolk concern, but isn't keen to have the three of them with them. Things could easily turn sideways.
• Finding out why they're stockpiling weapons... don't seem like hunting, so likely for offense or defense, but the trio won't speak on it. I kind of get the sense that they're not authorized to disclose that, and the Queen runs a totalitarian tribe.
• Would suggest that the lizardfolk be kept secure in town, but treated as detained nobles, well fed, etc. for diplomatic reasons. If we do end up returning them and the weapons to their tribe, we don't want them complaining of mistreatment.
• Is the settlement on the coast or along a river, or would we have to travel overland at the end of the sea option anyway? Does anyone know if there's enough cover to approach stealthily? Korrik has a good chance to get us close sneakily, and at least he and Ash can almost certainly get there undetected.

Ben, as you were walking off the ship, you'd hear some of the crowd say "Maybe he'll make a song out of this!" they hope to indeed see you at the Line tonight in hopes that you will perform upon your successful return.
Ben, the lizardfolk queen is named Othokent. The lizardfolk would've explained the best they can that the queen and her 'sub-chief' can speak common, along with the 'shamans' and some of the higher ranking 'scaleshields', although the rest of the clan only speaks draconic. Including all the guards. The 3 captured lizardfolk speak a bit of common, only for the purpose of being able to communicate with the pirates and to ensure the weapons are delivered.
Ben, Eliander rubs his chin and thinks for a moment and takes everything you say into consideration. He might glance at Eda as well as Manistrad, and then say "Fine. I cannot say that you are wrong, my good man. The ingots are yours. Perhaps they might prove useful depending on how interactions with the lizardfolk go, yes? Anyhow, should you want to store them here at council hall, feel free to do so. There is a safe over there." you can store them at the town hall. Like a bank but no interest.
Ash you would notice a bunch of townsfolk with excited looks in their eyes whispering things in each others ears and pointing at you. Lots of cheers!
Ash, you learn from the council that the captain of the ship is actually being transported to Seaton tomorrow. They aren't messing around. The trial will likely be quick and it's almost certain he will get death given the massive amount of evidence here.
Ash, you get no response when you lay some cant out for Oceanus.
Korrik, you have a good feeling the captain is telling the truth about the weapons. Has no idea and without a care in the world.
Korrik, this is quite the proposal that the lizardfolk have given here, and you can't be sure if it potentially could be a trap. You don't get a good read on it either way. One thing is certain, the lizardfolk are adamant that they come with you and be returned along with the weapons, or this entire thing will prove to be quite difficult and that Othokent will not likely approve, even if they are treated as detained nobles the way you've described. They once again demand that they come and take you directly to be an audience of the queen.
Korrik, you get a sense that all of the council members seemed to be genuinely concerned about this potential lizardfolk threat, perhaps with a bit of desperation.
Korrik, regarding the layout of the lizardfolk settlement: the crude map that was recovered from the ship shows the actual location of the lizardfolk colony and features in the vicinity. The lizardfolk themselves also confirmed this. I have added this map to the 'Marshswamp Region' tab. You will have to travel overland regardless, and it's not likely you're going to be able to make it inside the settlement (it's basically a cave) without being seen. The surrounding areas and entrances however might provide some potential cover, although the settlement was recently attacked by a group of humans and half orcs, and so the lizardfolk have increased their guard presence. The only way to find out 100% about stealth options will be to see it for yourself.
I think given the responses from Ben and Ash that Oceanus is going to part ways and head back to his tribe. (let me know if Korrik wants him to come). If not, he would thanks the party numerous times for rescuing him, and while he is concerned about the weapons and current situation, after going over the options and given his language barriers etc. he's decided to return home and inform his tribe leaders of what happened to him. He was able to communicate with the council because Eliander is fully literate in Elvish. "Perhaps our paths will cross again, brave heroes."
Ok, the 'Marshswamp Region' tab which shows kind of a zoomed in section of where the settlement (cave) is.
Here is some more information to help you decide how you want to proceed given what you are able to deduce from the map as well was what the lizardfolk would've told you.
Again - either way, you will have to travel overland to get to the actual cave.
Marshswamp to Settlement - Sea: 3 hours travel time to the promontory. There is a well-traveled and relatively dry track (at the point marked A on the map) leading from the coast. It disappears into the marshland interior, towards the cave settlement entrance (C on the map). There is also a hidden entrance (marked D on the map), although the lizardfolk do not recommend going that way if you insist going alone. You would also learn about the sea cave entrance (marked E on the map). The lizardfolk ultimately don't give you to much other information because they are demanding to be brought back when you go, along with the weapons.
Marshswamp to Settlement - Land: The overland journey is longer because of the difficult terrain. Dozens of trails follow a route roughly parallel to the coast and 100 to 400 yards away from it. Because of the terrain, it will take the party about 12 hours to travel from Marshswamp to the ford over the Dunwater River (marked B on the map).
There are benefits and risks to each one. One or both of these choices may involve encounter rolls and other events, too.
Both options can get you to C and D entrances, but only the sea option can get you to E.
The council is still undecided in what they want to do. They've said that since you are the ones actually going to the settlement that your decision will be the final one, especially given what you've already accomplished for them and for the town. They do agree that keeping the lizardfolk as detained nobles seems like a great idea and Eliander has a special holding area for them which is separate from the other inmates if that is what is decided.
Please confirm how you want to tackle this and if the lizardfolk and/or weapons are coming or not and how. Lots to think about! I am happy to answer any and all questions you might have and will tell you what I can.
After all of that, Ben can perform at the Snapping Line Inn. I imagine this is going to be a pretty awesome and relaxing night. Please roll a performance check, with advantage just because you've returned from this mission and everyone knows about it. Feel free to try and flirt with Hanna as well. Advantage for same reasons.
You all can level up to 4 as well after that evening! Feel free to RP here or in private thread or not at all - either way is good with me. I will level Ess up to 4 ASAP. Speaking of Ess, he's been pretty quiet through all of this and is essentially letting you decide. "Bros. Quite the pickle this is. All I know is that I don't trust the lizards. Take it for what it's worth, bros."
I will also give the party one more day in town before they put their plan to action if there's anything that you want to do for that day in town - unless you want to put the plan into action immediately the next day which is totally fine, although the lizardfolk are expecting that shipment so the more time you take the more it will effect things.
((Without a reliable way to communicate with Oceanus, Korrik wouldn't feel a need to bring him along, but would inquire via translator if there's a way to get in touch with him or his people in the future, and if any of them might speak Common or a language the party knows if they make contact without Eliander on hand.))
IF....
We leave them behind:
• They are upset about it • We'll be able to communicate with the Queen and higher ups, but not the guards we're likely to initially meet • No one to make introductions/get us a meeting • They might not be happy about us having their tribesfolk and weapons back in town
We take them:
• We need to guard them (or much less likely, trust them?) • Bringing them there in shackles isn't good optics • They might help smooth the way, but only if we can trust them enough not to tell the guards to kill us immediately • Can't take all the weapons like they want if we go by boat (but will by land?) • Less back and forth if things go well than negotiating with the Queen then bringing her people and weapons back (if they aren't planning an invasion)
We don't go on the trip:
• If the tribe find out that we captured them and brought them to Marshswamp, there'd be repercussions • Council has to continue housing them? Drop them off up the coast? Who gets the weapons?
I don't think we can give them the weapons without knowing their reasons for having them (and all won't fit on the boat, if we go that way), but perhaps some as show of good will, or some of the lizardfolk and some of the weapons as a show of goodwill? Return with one lizardfolk and half the weapons, get a meeting with the Queen and go from there?

"What would you guys like for lunch?", Korrik asks the lizard folk.
He'll procure/cook whatever they want, and spend some time with them trying to get a feel for them to weigh into the party's decisions.
He'll probably nap a bit in the afternoon, but otherwise try to get back on a regular day/night cycle.
As everyone is celebrating that evening, he's a bit more outgoing and gregarious, Ben might be rubbing off on him. He eats well, drinks well but sparingly, and enjoys himself. He's allowing himself to open up and enjoy being around others a bit more than he has since before he joined the monastery.
Retiring to his room, he winds down with a bit of meditation, and sleeps a well deserved sleep. His body is still adjusting, and he wakes before dawn, his mind keeps coming back to how falling from the mast could have set the whole night down a differ path. His abilities are growing, shadow able to take visible form and at times he almost feels like it has a tangible weight. Perhaps...
Experimenting, he calls some shadow to his hand, letting it swirl and twist, willing it to become thicker. He swings his hand, and there is noticeable resistance before he looses the shadow back into the surroundings. Maybe?
He slips out the window in the predawn morning, no one yet around, and clambers up to the roof. This is stupid. It's not gonna work, and Ben's gonna make fun of him... and Ess is gonna slap him on the back and ask "What were you thinking, dude bro?!", and Ash is gonna wonder why he didn't just climb down... but if it does work...
Ah, fork it.
Korrik leaps from the rooftop, shadow pooling around his back and limbs, streaming upwards, flapping silently as he falls, slowing his descent until he touches down lightly on the ground.
"FORK YEAH! Oh... sorry..."
He slips back in, winking at whichever of the staff is up and about, and if there are no other patrons, he'll wander back into the kitchen and offer to help with prep.
Korrik is taking ASI, but also gets slow fall as a monk ability that lets him negate falling damage by 5 x his monk level, which means he has a 98% chance to survive a 100 ft fall if he starts at full health.
He also gets an additional ki point, so can dark vision himself and Ess on one go, then take a rest to regain them without having to do another after that.

Insight on Eliander's offer to leave the ingots: 22
(Is there an actual bank in town?)
He'll also encourage Anders to come to the show at the Line.
———
To Oceanus,
"Nice meet you, perhaps our paths will cross again."
———
Ben is strongly opposed to bringing either the lizardfolk or the weapons until they have first confirmed the tribe's goals.
"If we bring them everything they want up front we have, at best, nothing to bargain with and at worst given them the troops and weapons to fight us. No, if we bring anything we bring that ridiculous lizard shield we found. Once we have established what they are planning we, the council, can make our decision on the captives and weapons."
He is also onboard for going tomorrow, if they decide to go.
"Best to go before they start worrying and suspecting. We might be able to play ourselves off as knowing less than we do about their weapons buying."
———
((Like you read Ben's mind for the performance and Hannah Klein!))
Ben gets some sleep until he needs to get up to get cleaned up for the show and to grab a bite. He'll make eye contact with Hannah and give her a warm smile.
He'll chat with people that come in, especially Anders if he shows up. He'll ask Anders for some general business advice as well as advice on lizardfolk and the upcoming mission, only half listening but still pretending to be attentive. He'll also keep up the friendly looks to Hannah, brushing beside her when possible.
For the show he'll get the lute out and while humming create a scene of a ship in the darkness as two smaller boats approach in the moon light. As the the boats reach the ship he will start singing, changing the images to show a very loose and far faster version of what happened the previous night. Ben is far more central in combat than he ever was and the enemies more numerous and far less surprised. Ash, Kay and Ess all get sections of the song devoted to their heroics, always overblown and less cloak and dagger but Ben is the clear lead.
Performance:25
Following his performance he will call the team up for some bows and applause.
Once that all winds down he will smile at Hannah and wink. Coming over he will ask,
"Do you have plans for the evening? After such a trying day, and an important task for the town tomorrow, that I would appreciate a bit of...solace."
He gives her a smile to make it clear the comfort would be reciprocal.
Persuasion (17 ain't gonna do it):21
———
((For his level 4 he is just getting better at being charming and dodging things which goes pretty well with what he has been practicing. For his spell he is just able to convince people that his suggestions are as good as he himself thinks they are!))
Ash rests, enjoys the show, revels in being brought up on stage but then retires for the night exhausted.
Ash falls asleep thinking that the mission went without a hitch. And that there’s nothing better than real fieldwork to hone her skills to a sharp point! ((Lvl 4 gives her +2 Dex ASI)).
Ash agrees with leaving the Lizardfolk and the weapons in town, and that moving quickly would lessen the risk that the lizard-clan realise anything is up. Although she can see the benefits of bringing ‘something’.
Without anyone to speak draconic, getting past the guards would be tricky. Taking one Lizardfolk could work but the three in town would never agree to that.
At some point early the next day, Ash would ask the party, “How do we get past the guards to see the Lizardfolk Queen if we don’t speak the language?”.
Ash chuckles, but ponders the suggestions, “Yep, both great suggestions actually…. Hmm… So we have the Queen’s name. And yes, if we can find someone to teach us ‘We come in peace’, and a few other phrases, that could cover it!”.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Korrik, while Oceanus doesn't provide any methods or ideas of communication to him or his tribe, he said that he will most likely be back to Marshswamp over the next little while, likely with one or two of his superiors to properly thank you and the others. None of his tribe members would speak common. Just elven and aquan, and most of them only speak aquan.
Korrik, the lizardfolk look at you in an odd way, and after some words you don't understand, you think they are trying to say "meat" and "plants". As you spend a bit of time with them (let me know what you decide to cook them), they seem to reiterate again that the weapons are not going to be used on Marshswamp. They explain (but it's pretty hard to understand) that they cannot tell you more information about the weapons as it could potentially 'jeopardize things', but that they need them back. Now. They said again that the Queen will be able to explain and that she will be pleased should her weapons and the 3 lizardfolk be returned. If not, there could potentially be negative consequences for Marshswamp, of which could be likely avoided by bringing them and the weapons back.
Ben, you get a sense Eliander is genuine with his offer to store the ingots. (there is no bank in the town. I thought I saw one in the text earlier on, which gave me the idea initially, but then when I looked back it seems there is no bank. I still liked the idea, so I went with it.) Eliander says the council hall is guarded all hours of the day. They could be stored in one of the council's larger safes and assures you it will be secure. Assuming the town isn't razed by the lizardfolk. He half laughs and half grunts. Will you store them at town hall?
Ben, Anders will absolutely be there for your performance. He answers your questions. He says in an annoyingly confident/almost bragging way to stay away from the fishing business as he controls it. He explains that he owns both a fishing fleet and several trading vessels, so he can sell his catch at a highly competitive price. And he can offer better prices for the other fishers in town to sell to him, since his catch brings in so much more profit. "Maybe stick with the crimefighting business", he chuckles. About the lizardfolk, he'd tell you that for the most part, relations with them have been, well, uneventful in longer than he can remember, which seemed to be a good thing until this new information about the weapons has came about. He leans towards not bringing the lizardfolk back or the weapons, and just sending you 4 in to investigate.
Ess would join onstage as Ben invites all of the party up for the end! He's bashful at first but then gets into the whole 'hero' thing and shakes his fists enthusiastically. "Yeahhhh!! Sup my brothers and sisters!!"
Ben, you earn 27sp and 10cp +26sp and 22cp (double of what a potential 20 got you last time you rolled it, due to the excitement and anticipation of the performance and return of the heroes.
Hanna pays you the tips. She says, when no one is around "Ben, while your offer is tempting... extremely temping to say the least..... I can't. Optics. You understand, yes?" she stares at you for a moment. "Hmmmm. Perhaps when you're done figuring out what the lizardfolk are up to, you might need to take a... vacation. One outside of Marshswamp, where no one could see. I think that will be your best bet for... solace."and she winks and smiles. (the 20 wasn't enough for tonight, but things have swayed in her mind with that roll.) "although, gosh I hope they aren't actually planning something against Marshswamp."
So - is the plan then to leave first thing in the morning, with no lizardfolk and no weapons? You will just bring yourselves, and the lizardfolk shield and some signs?
Eliander speaks and understands Draconic, but cannot write it. I think the only way to create signs is for the lizardfolk to write them. Someone (Ben?) make a persuasion check for the lizardfolk if you want them to write the sign(s). Results will determine if 1. they agree to help and 2. the size of the sign, how much they will write, etc.
Also, please confirm method of travel. Land or sea. Boat + drivers provided if Sea.
No guards provided for land travel.
About Ess - he's going to take the 2 STR. He really got quite the rush using his longsword, especially when he used it to smack that one lizardfolk. Before bed, he reflects on what the party has just accomplished, but he's distracted. He can't stop looking in the mirror. He's really noticed his physique improve over the past little while. After a few minutes, he starts to full on flex in front of the mirror in his room. He starts to talk quietly to himself "bro... dude you're getting jacked bro. Beach is that way, bro" and he flexes his biceps. He then crushes 100 pushups and has a great sleep.
Over to you! Let me know if I missed anything from your posts as well.
((How about an 18 ;)? I'll respond more later, but if they are the only option to make the sign he wouldn't bother. Who knows what they'd actually write.))
"If we don't bring you and the weapons to your Queen, she'd move against Marshswamp, but if we do, she won't?"
Korrik will skewer some chunks of marinated meat and onions, peppers and mushrooms, cooking them over a fire to get a nice bit of char and cook things through, before sliding it off onto a circle of flatbread. He'll pass the "Kay-babs" over to them and gesture for them to help themselves.
"I know you said the weapons aren't to be used against the town, but that's what folks are worried about. If there were some way of guaranteeing that was the case, everyone would feel a lot better about handing three mighty warriors and a bunch of weapons over to the neighbors. Are you not able to tell me more because you don't know, or because your Queen has forbidden you to tell others?"
((Yeah, if Eli can't read Draconic, we're not coming out ahead.))

The butterfly effect.
What's next?
((Without a reliable way to communicate with Oceanus, Korrik wouldn't feel a need to bring him along, but would inquire via translator if there's a way to get in touch with him or his people in the future, and if any of them might speak Common or a language the party knows if they make contact without Eliander on hand.))
IF....
We leave them behind:
• They are upset about it
• We'll be able to communicate with the Queen and higher ups, but not the guards we're likely to initially meet
• No one to make introductions/get us a meeting
• They might not be happy about us having their tribesfolk and weapons back in town
We take them:
• We need to guard them (or much less likely, trust them?)
• Bringing them there in shackles isn't good optics
• They might help smooth the way, but only if we can trust them enough not to tell the guards to kill us immediately
• Can't take all the weapons like they want if we go by boat (but will by land?)
• Less back and forth if things go well than negotiating with the Queen then bringing her people and weapons back (if they aren't planning an invasion)
We don't go on the trip:
• If the tribe find out that we captured them and brought them to Marshswamp, there'd be repercussions
• Council has to continue housing them? Drop them off up the coast? Who gets the weapons?
I don't think we can give them the weapons without knowing their reasons for having them (and all won't fit on the boat, if we go that way), but perhaps some as show of good will, or some of the lizardfolk and some of the weapons as a show of goodwill? Return with one lizardfolk and half the weapons, get a meeting with the Queen and go from there?
((RP post later...))

((For his level 4 he is just getting better at being charming and dodging things which goes pretty well with what he has been practicing. For his spell he is just able to convince people that his suggestions are as good as he himself thinks they are!))
((Okay, numerous typos but don't dare fix them and mess up the rolls...))

Ben, you earn 27sp and 10cp + 26sp and 22cp (double of what a potential 20 got you last time you rolled it, due to the excitement and anticipation of the performance and return of the heroes.
I think that will be your best bet for... solace." and she winks and smiles.
*sorry, that persuasion roll is at disadvantage for the lizardfolk and the signs - need higher than 17
((How about an 18 ;)?
