Korrik, Aubreck's eyes widen and he responds "Oh. Jeez. Ok... Yeahhhhh... Forget I asked, son."and then he kind of dismisses that he even asked you about it and shakes your hand as you get to him first. He does look directly into your eyes though and says "thank you... hmmm.... by the gods, I don't even think I got your name."He looks at Ash"Or yours! Heck, didn't really have time to ask once Ben here came in now did I?!" He laughs. He seems much happier now that the deal is set.
((We can assume that Aubreck introduces himself to you all and gets all of your names, etc. etc. Sorry, totally missed that! Unless you wanted to give alternate names. Ben did introduce himself though.))
ok... given your 26 persuasion roll along with how Aubreck's character is built within the game, here's how this goes down:
Ben, Aubreck is surprised but curious to see you and the others back again so soon. Just a few moments before that, Korrik sacked you and Ess cracked up hard. "OHHHHH Bro! Dude, Good one man!" and then he kind of walks awkwardly covering his crotch so he also doesn't get bagged.
Ben, Aubreck would quickly welcome you and the others into the foyer and discuss what you have laid out with the weapons. Or just Ben, if that's the case. He would think about what you have said, and respond "Conflict in the region, you say?? Here, in Marshswamp? It's the lizards, isn't it!! Ahh, I've been so busy with the Widow once I got word of her sighting that I've not had my ear to the ground with the happenings of the town. Eliander did seem very busy when I mentioned the Widow to him earlier today. Hmmm.... I will pay him another visit later. Should thank him anyhow for sending you all to help me."
He takes the list of weapons and sees you drop the electrum ingots on the floor and the gold on a table beside a beautiful desk lamp.
"Seems Eliander has you busy!" (he is assuming the acquisition of weapons and armor for a regional conflict is headed by Eliander). "That is quite the list. Can the old man not get this equipment himself? And what, is he funding orders with electrum ingots now? HA!"
He thinks for a moment and says "I would be happy to help. The extra 300 gold is also appreciated. I will actually head by the council hall later today to thank Eliander for sending you all for the Widow as well as this acquisition work. I realize you can't discuss the details of the conflict"he kind of makes a face like he knows what he's talking about "but ole Eliander will tell me. Besides, if there's shite going down in the region, perhaps it'll be time for me to relocate once you return with the box. Need to know about these things, Ben! Anyhow, thanks again. VERTHEG! Come. We've work to do. Need to exchange some electrum! We're going to be back on our feet faster than I thought now aren't we old boy!!"and he slaps the half-orc quite hard on his back.
Vertheg barely feels it as he cracks a grin, nods and escorts the party out.
(so, you don't know if Aubreck is going to actually be able to fulfill the order, but he accepts what you've laid out and is going to Eliander to speak with him about things later.)
Yes, it was Ess who saw the symbol on Kay's forehead and did crack up and told Kay about it. "Ben, I won't be able to keep a straight face with that on his head bro!! hahaha, aww dudes, I love you guys!"Ess is in quite a good mood considering he's about to embark on a trip 5-ish days out to sea... something he's never done before. He's still blinded by the 25g's!
Ben, Eliander is quite busy and looks up from his desk and says "A little over a week? Where in the gods are you going? What about the dreadwood scout.... and Aubreck... ARGH. I've no time for this! Fine. Go. Take your vacation. Suppose you've all earned it. Please just be back sooner than later."
(Eliander is assuming that you guys are all taking a vacation.)
He half-smiles and then grunts when you give him advice about the lizardfolk meeting "Thank you." and dismisses you out of his office.
Ben, the horses are in good care. "They probably won't want to leave!" the stall master says. As for Hannah, she hasn't returned yet. The one left in charge looks more concerned than in the morning, but there's still lots of day left. And if she doesn't come back today, maybe she will be back tomorrow, they think to themselves.
Ash, you don't notice any new thieves cant messages. ((although stay tuned with that as I believe we had said we were going to implement Fiddnot into the upcoming conflict. I will PM you about that later, and there might be something else as well that I can make work into future quests if applicable.))
Prisoners returned+ 2 / 12:30PM / The Docks
I will pause here to let you respond to any of the above and then will kick off the first post of this new mission starting at the docks!!
"I am not sure how much the council wants me saying at this point regarding the potential conflict, but I can assure you it is not the lizardfolk. Speaking with Eliander should clear that up but we would like your discretion in this order, this is our list and not the Councils and we are financing it as private individuals. We would that you keep it between us for the time being, but rest assured the items on that list will, ultimately, be used in defense of Marshswamp. Depending on what is public knowledge when we get back, we may be able to explain."
He makes sure Aubreck knows he expects him not to go spreading that they made an order around town or to the council.
"That said, I know that Eliander is having difficulty filling the town's needs as well, so you can perhaps bundled the order to get an even larger discount? I will leave that up to you. Also, and this goes with out saying, if you don't fill the full order with those items, or their price and function equivalent, you'll not be getting any bonus gold."
He smiles to show he isn't trying to be threatening but needs to make that clear.
"I'm going to swing by Eliander to let him know we are heading out, he is busy so don't expect a long explanation today! I guess it is up to you how much you'd like to tell him about this mission."
---
"As I said Eliander, don't worry about the meeting. It is a working vacation, we're in high demand but we'll be back well before you'll have need of us again. I expect Aubreck will be by to talk about helping the town get some weapons and armor as well later. Hopefully that will help out with the shortages."
---
He doesn't really spare much thought for Hannah if she isn't there.
Korrik nods, "Let's just be glad he wasn't your employee at the time. I'm Korrik, by the way." He musters a bit of a pained smile.
Korrik likely makes it down to the docks first, and would be pacing about on the docks if the crew needs him to wait while they finish prepping, otherwise he'd be waiting on board, likely pacing with agitated energy.

On her way down to the docks, Ash keeps an eye out for any fishing equipment. She wouldn’t mind trying to catch fish for dinner. She LOVES fish!
If they have them, she’ll get rods and hooks and bait etc enough for herself and for one other person to try (or for all the others to share). So two of everything ((Let me know what she finds and the cost)).
((I'm also assuming the ship is provisioned and we don't need to buy a week's worth of rations? Otherwise we better get good at fishing! Or Ben will just sweet talk the Captain...))

Ben, Aubreck responds "Hmmm. Not the lizardfolk you say? Private weapons deals... defense of Marshswamp.. I must say Ben this is quite interesting."he pauses "Yes. Don't worry. You have my discretion about your weapons."
"Yes. The full order. Alright. Thank you, Ben. I will be anxiously waiting your return!"
"VERTHEG! COME!"
Ben please make an insight check.
Prisoners returned+ 2 / 12:30PM / The Docks
It is a hot and sunny day, probably the hottest day you've experienced since you arrived in town. The docks are busy as usual, and as you get closer to the docks it's clear which ship you're supposed to board.
The Soul of Winter is a sailing ship, the only one currently at the docks at this hour of the day. You see a few dwarves on the deck of the ship preparing her for the departure.
As you board the ship, you're greeted by her captain, Wolgar Windrune. He goes over some details that Aubreck likely didn't tell you about:
- He insists that you all remain in your designated quarters, a cramped chamber below deck, during the voyage.
- The crew consists of thirty or so dwarves who work in various places on the ship. They will all remain aboard Soul of Winter upon arrival to the Wave Widow, since they have not been paid for anything other than the transport.
- He tells you about the supplies that Aubreck told you about (we have already resolved that)
- The captain will order two sailors to ferry all of you in a rowboat from the Soul of Winter to the Wave Widow derelict upon arrival. The sailors will have ropes and grappling hooks for access to the Widow should you need it.
- The captain has no idea of the weather upon arrival, and depending on the weather during the trip, it may take longer than the 5 days.
There will be no encounters on the journey. It will take 7 days.
(Longer than 5 days means it was rough weather, less than 5 means the skies were clear each day!)
You would've had a lot of time to chat with one another during the trip. Let me know if anyone would've done that (totally cool if not), and then I will kick off the arrival to the Wave Widow post!
Ess would've been sea sick more than once. "ughhhhh... bros..... this is horrible!!"*BAAARRFFFFF*
He'd eventually get used to the motion of the ship.
*** Korrik, yes the ship is provisioned with a cook and food, and Ash I will get back to you about the fishing rods! I will update this post***
"As you wish Cap'n Windrune. I don't wish to step on your crew's toes, but if you've the need, I've got a good head for heights, and could assist in the crow's nest if called upon. I've also spent time as a line cook, and I'd be willing to assist with prep work, should the ship's cook welcome a hand in the galley. If you'd rather we all stay holed up in our bunk, I'll try to entertain myself down there then."
((Korrik's gonna be going a little stircrazy if confined to quarters for 7 days with a barfing Ess.))
((Does our cabin have a view port?))
When Ben arrives, "Studded leather included in the provisions... we need any of that for the Q?"

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Ben sighs,
"Weapons and armor. If it makes you feel any better, it is likely not going to be a secret once we get back and we can tell you what we are going to do with them before you turn them over."
Persuasion to keep quiet for the time being (min 20):30
Insight: 13
((Did anyone else come back for this that'd be able to roll insight?))
---
To Kay,
"Yes, we needed the armor but it's on the list Aubreck is hopefully solving so we can just sell this one when we get back."
---
Ben would mostly stay put below and practice music and hopefully complete the forgery. He will ask to come up to let Bimz stretch his wings a few times a day.
He'll prestidigitate clean Ess's vomit as it leaves the man as best he can,
"Good gods! How much did you eat? It just stop."
((Just going to roll this all 6 times at once, however long it takes to get to 20 I'll remove from the kit.
Ash, you would've easily found fishing tackle at the markets by the docks. So, 1gp. Bait would be 2 sp. Keep in mind the dwarves are not likely going to let you fish off the boat though, especially when you get out to sea. It's dangerous. Also, you will have 3 meals a day on the ship. By all means though feel free to still buy the equipment!
Ash, you could roll a persuasion check with disadvantage should you want to ask the captain if he will let you fish off the boat during the trip.
Ess would not want a fishing rod and would be like "Naa... Ash, I'm not fishin' if the dwarves are going to be cooking us food all day every day. Damn this gig gets better and better!"(this is before he realizes he gets sea sick, haha)
Ben, Aubreck waves his hand and says "Yes yes. Ben. I won't say anything. The last thing I want to do is jeopardize the Widow. Please. Just get my box back. I will work on your weapons. *ahem* And armor. Heck, I won't even go see Eliander today if it makes you feel better."
"VERTHEG!! COME!! WE'VE WOK TO DO!"
Ben and Ash, neither of you get a real sense if he's going to tell anyone about the weapons and armor deal. I mean, he seems genuine and focused on the Widow and getting his life back on track, and Ben has been pretty clear about everything, but it would be nice if you could get a 100% feeling before you left. Which neither of you get from this guy. Also, neither of you are confident that he can actually complete the order in the first place.
Ben, with the min 20 persuasion, you'd get to come on the deck and let Bimz fly and stretch his wings. Some of the crew frown that he was even allowed on board, but some of them are amused by the pseudodragon as Bimz catches some wind and flies through the air giving everyone on the deck a moment of entertainment on an otherwise very dull 7 day trip south west into the sea.
Ben, Ess says "Oh MAN. This is horrible."*BAARRFFFF*"Dude... I thought Aubreck said 5 days bro!" you can't prestidigitate fast enough at some points in the day. Poor guy. He eventually gets his sea legs on the last day of travel. haha.
Ben, you eventually manage to make a damn near perfect replica of the ownership documents for the silks! (Ok perfect, 30% remaining)
Korrik, please roll a persuasion check to see if the captain takes you up on one or all of your offers of help during the trip.
Korrik, the cabin that you're all does not have a view port. It is cramped, but maybe not the worst place you've slept?
Let's resolve the roll requests and then I will post the arrival to the Wave Widow!
"Good, good. You should see Eliander though, sooner rather than later. He is busy but if you're helping with getting the weapons he'll probably appreciate it. Godspeed!"
He nods to both the merchant and the butler and departs.
---
Ben would help Ash with persuading the captain to let her fish, preferably taking the lead,
"If you're worried she'll fall off we can tie her to the railing."
To Ash he comments,
"Bimz likes fresh fish, if you have any luck."
Ben keeps it lively with his music and storytelling. Eventually he does get bored having to play over a puker.
((Korrik's ask came before Ben got there so he is on his own!))
Depending on layout of the cabin, Korrik will take an upper bunk if there is one (eventually out of Ess's splash zone), and resigns himself to being cooped up during the trip. He's fiddling with the pipe, but in the enclosed quarters, doesn't light it up.
When everyone in their party is in the cabin, and before they put out to sea and Ess starts hurling, he turns to the others.
"Hey... sorry I've been a bit off. Owe you guys an apology for making things tense at Aubreck's. Ummm... so... Ess knows I used to be a bit more on the lucrative side of the law... though I've made more with the three of you doing things more or less legalish-ly. Ahem... anyway, I used to be a smuggler/courier. Moving high end, portable stuff that needed moving... probably a fair bit of it stolen, but we didn't ask questions. Client wanted it moved, we moved it. We being me and my... my brother Br- Breldo. Heh... fork. I think last time I said his name out loud was the last I saw him. On the Wave Widow. Which was captained by Tresten at the time. That blood that Aubreck cleaned up? Some of it was mine... most of it was Breldo's. After going overboard, I washed up and was taken in by the monastery I studied at... I ahh... I know it won't change things, and likely not going to tell me where Tresten is, but I had to see the ship, you know? It floating around out here... feel like part of me is too... anyway... I'm gonna lay down. And since we're stuck down here, I plan on getting VERY drunk later. You're welcome to join me. Just having you thre- excuse me Bimz, you four here... it means a lot."

Ben listens silently to Kay and pulls out the bottle of wine he snagged from the Hook,
"Was planning to open this as a celebratory refreshment once we had that box but this seems like an opportune moment as well. Not enough to get very drunk, but a slight inebriation to share the comraderie of a skilled team. "
He looks at Ess puking,
"Ess will not be joining us in actual drinking, but in spirit."
Ben busts out the sliver finery they took from the pirate ship to drink out of,
"A toast to us!"
((Hopefully Kay is up for a glass or two before crashing.))
Ash listens to Korrik’s tale, and smiles a sad smile for him that turns into a genuinely happy smile.
”I am glad too… … Before I found you, (or, you found me?)… I’d been… in prison... I hadn’t been there too long before I met Fiddnot and we broke out! Ha!…”.
”Like you, I’d been into some reasonably lucrative capers, but nothing as lucrative as the last few weeks, or so, have been…”.
”It seems this crew is more lucrative than the sum of its parts!… We seem to make a decent team…”. She winks and smiles and joins heartily in the sharing of the good wine!
((OOC: didn’t we loot some playing dice and I think Ash has cards too. I think they will have a good time below decks))
((OOC: Ash does buy two sets of fishing gear, and is sad when she hears they won’t let her on deck to fish. On speaking with Ben, she would gladly have him speak with the captain. And she would ‘help’ him convince them to let her try her hand at fishing, even if it were only an hour or two each dawn. She’s pleased they are fed well on the boat, but nothing beats the first bite into a raw fish you’ve caught right out of the sea!
If she’s allowed to fish, she would tie herself to the railings securely for safety)).
((At some point later in the trip Ben will discuss plans:))
"I think we start out by doing a close circuit of the ship. Kay, you can use your time on ship to let us know what's changed and it's general seaworthiness. I'll detect magic to see what, if anything, is magical aboard. I should be able to check the entire ship. If that magic box is onboard I will be able to spot it."
He looks to Ash,
"You and Ess will look and listen for anything on board that could be a threat."
((Korrik has a few drinks, but is a bit of a morose drunk, rather than his usual upbeat self, and eventually turns in. He'd swing between being anxious and being mopey the majority of the trip.))
"Sounds good Ben, if we think it's worth scouting from below the waterline, I can do that too."

Ben sighs,
"Weapons and armor.

Ash would have accompanied Ben back to Aubreck…

GILLAIN OF ATHKATLA - Human Paladin - Into the Mists PHILLIP THE GRUNG - Grung Eldritch Knight - Tomb of Annihilation
ROBWIN WINDROBE - High Elf Wizard - Dragon of Icespire Peak EVE DARKSHORE - Tiefling Warlock - Rime of the Frost Maiden
ASH OF THE FIRE - Tabaxi Rogue - Ghosts of Marshswamp LIA STARBORN - Aasimar Bard - Out of the Abyss
Damn this gig gets better and better!" (this is before he realizes he gets sea sick, haha)
This is horrible." *BAARRFFFF* "Dude...
Persuasion: 14
((Definitely not the worst, but typically not shared with a puker and three others!))

To Aubreck,
"Good, good.
