Ash would like to retrieve the glinting object we saw before. ((if any rolls are needed, let me know)). Assuming she manages to get the item, she’ll return to her original room and close her room’s door (leaving the spider-room-door open, for the spiders)..
She hears the shouts from below midway through all of this, but for now she sticks to the plan, until she hears a reason to do anything different. She knows she can really move when she needs to, so she’s not worried about getting where she needs to be, when the time comes. She’s hoping the spiders will retreat to their room and then they can close their door again, and deal with the ghost!
Ben moves over to the spot southeast of Ess, making the shh finger over his lips and peers down looking for the ghost with a crossbow. Or really anything other than spiders and Korrik down there.
((everyone else - if your character gets in a position that they can see down stairs, they'd see the same crate that Korrik used as a joke before you went upstairs. Good thing he practiced it!))
Ash, you fiddle around in the fireplace, and eventually find a small crystal bauble. The flat-bottomed crystal orb is pleasant to look at and tactilely satisfying to hold. You can make an investigation check to determine if more information is revealed, if you'd like on this turn as it makes sense that Ash'd have the time in this case. You then zip back to the room and close the door.
Ben, you move as described. You see Korrate (lol), and assume it's him because of the last time he did it, but do not see any ghosts with crossbows.
Both of the masses of spiders do not move. They remain where they are. Actually, the group still on the stairs moves back up the stairs 5 feet.
Next Round: Ess, Spiders, ???, Korrik, Ash, Busren
Ess nods at Ben as he shushes him, and he mouths these words back to Ben"What - the - fork?"
The mass of spider closest to Korrik does not move. The one on the stairs moves back up the stairs 5 feet.
Korrik, you hear that loud whisper again "GET THE FORK BACK IN HERE NOW!" and then you hear some rustling in that first room. Using simple logic you likely determine it was the trap door opening and then closing. Then you hear muffled voices arguing, then nothing.
Ben, you hear something very like a shadowy version of Korrik's voice whisper behind you, "There's some forking guys came up through the trapdoor and shot at me, think they went back down now though. There's some forking guys came up through the trapdoor and shot at--"
There's a muttered "Fork, how do you turn this off?" from the crate below, right before the whisper stops.
((Staying in the crate, minor illusion up to where he can see Ben to give him the heads up. Ben can probably see Korrik crouching inside a shadowy, translucent crate now, if he can deduce that is what's going on.))
Ash, as you inspect the bauble, you realize it might be a part of a set of similar crystals used as counterweights in alchemical work. Perhaps you've read a book or seen a picture of such a thing which is how you know this. You'd assume this particular bauble might be worth 5sp or so.
Having heard the shouting, Ash is listening hard, and sniffing the air. It doesn’t seem like anything is happening that would make her think the party are in desperate trouble, so she will wait it out, as per the plan (for now)...
She pockets the crystal ball and draws a dagger again, just in case... and listens...
((I think it’s her turn, and that’s what she does. That’s the end of her turn))
Ben looks over his shoulder at Ess when he hears Kay's voice behind him and raises an eyebrow at Ess. He turns back to the box that is Kay as it speaks (and he can see Kay).
He will then whisper to Ess as he moves back to the intersection (south of Ess),
"I think Kay found the current occupants. I didn't see them down there, just Kay in his box disguise. Get your bow ready if they come out into the open down there, otherwise we just wait for the spiders to calm down and go back in."
He readies his crossbow to shoot at anyone hostile coming into his line of sight in the room below but otherwise stays still to not attract the spiders' attentions.
Next Round: Ess, Spiders, ???, Korrik, Ash, Busren
Ess whispers "Shit really?!? Ok, you got it bro."and he takes out his bow and aims it downstairs, ready to shoot if need be. (he still has Korrik's staff!)
The spiders now retreat back to their room. The one bunch is 'confused' as to where its attacker went, and the other blob of spiders just wants to go back to its cozy web home in the fireplace. I will say they will skitter back quite quickly (just to save a round) and dash back into the room.
For Korrik:
You don't hear any other voices or rustling around down the hallway. It's quiet again.
Korrik, Ash, Busren are all up, however we can pretty much end combat now if the spiders are left alone as they retreat.
I will wait to update the maps for now until the next move is planned.
Korrik will peek his head out from his box, and if he doesn't see any one peeking back out at him, will scamper and dash up the stairs once they are clear of spiders, snagging the crossbow bolt on his way.
"Seems someone's making use of the basement, they shot this at me, at least two of them, one wanted to come after me, the other told him to get back downstairs, and I think they left... What are we doing? Between those stirges and spiders, I'm feeling pretty rough. I don't think we've ever really had surprise on our side here... do we just leave? I mean, if there's someone hiding out in the basement, the chances of 'untold riches' just shot up a lot from 'old stuff hidden in fireplaces', but we don't know their numbers... if it's just the two of them, we'd be able to take them, but if it's more..."

"Dude there's guys in the basement?! Ok let's just get the fork out of here then, what if more of 'em come back?! Did they get the horses? Dudes, Ash let's go! Screw it, this place is a dump! They can have it. Who knows how old that damn scroll is anyway?"
He starts to go down the stairs with his bow drawn at the ready.
He would've given Korrik his staff back, too. "Here, bro."
Korrik twirls the crossbow bolt thoughtfully, and hands it to Ben, taking his staff back.
"We've given the house a thorough look over, except the basement. If we wait, they could come for us, or the horses, like you said. We don't know who they are, or how good a look they got of me. We're beat up and well bitten, I'm tired, and kind of in favor of a retreat as well. Ash, Ben? What do you say? I think we need to go now if we're gonna go. Longer we wait, more likely they send someone up after us, or cut us off at the horses. I can get us out of here unseen... I think."

Ash hears the party chatting, so twigs that it’s probably all fine out there now. She peeks out, closes the spider door, and wanders over to the balcony to meet up with the others.
She shows everyone the crystal ball she found and tells them she suspects it to be worth around 5sp, but it could be part of a set that might be worth more.
“People in the basement? Is that what the noise was??... Hmmm.... maybe we should get our strength back before tackling that problem. But I agree that if there are people down there then the chance of riches down there too (or something useful) goes up!....”.
”Should we get rest and supplies in town then come back?.... ..... I would feel better if I could get some proper armour, but I am a little.... short on funds... shall we say!”.
Ben rolls the bolt back and forth in his hand thinking.
"First off, Ess take a breath. We're fine."
He taps the bolt against his palm.
"Both you and Ash are in rough shape, so I think it is wise that we depart... Though I think we should make some noise about it, so they see us leave. Preferably in a hurry. We go a bit off into the woods here, not all the way back into town. We rest until its dark, someone can keep watch on the house while we do that, and then when it is dark we come back here and retrieve our treasure."
He gives Ash a consoling looking,
"Unfortunately I don't think we have enough money to get you a set of armor,"
"Or we can come back tomorrow like Kay suggests. Not sure if they will be more prepared than if we can come back in the middle of the night. It would be nice to catch them sleeping though."
He looks over at Kay,
"I didn't realize you had enough money for things like armor? That is a pleasant surprise! Or we can just take said armor from them."
He taps the floor with his foot for emphasis.
((Cross post! I wrote what I did before I checked the money situation for Korrik. Ben is broke and didn't know Korrik was, relatively, loaded!))

I forgot to make that attack with advantage. Here's the other attack roll 3
Still a miss. *THUNK* the bolt sticks into the wall!
