((Ash would definitely know about the DRG - Dead Rat Gang. It is a well known crime based evil alignment-ish based gang in Neverwinter. Who are wererats.))
The moment that Korrik would've given the go ahead for Ess, he would've started to march across that wooden deck, and kick the door as hard as he could, likely as Ben was talking. "YEAHHHH!!!"Ess exclaims as the door smashes open. It stays on the hinges, but it's a loud smash as the door flings open and hits the parallel wall and then bounces back almost closed but just slightly ajar. "FORKIN' NAILED THAT BOYS!" he forgets about Ash in the moment, and then hears what Ben was saying. He blushes a bit. "......sorry man... Kay said to go for it, so...." he smiles at Ben in a playful way.
"Ok then, you can go first if you don't want me ruining stuff in this dump! Yeeehaw, let's see what she's got hiding in there!"
And he kind of gestures Ben to go first.
I have uncovered what you can see when the door was open and also still a bit since it's ajar. I won't give any specific details though as the door wasn't open long enough.
What is next? Please make any preemptive checks as needed depending on what you want to do.
I will post again tomorrow morning if any of you post in the meantime!
Korrik stretches his staff past Ess and nudges the door open, listening for any sounds from within of someone or something taking notice of their former wererat's enthusiastic entry.

Ben rubs his temples at the loud entry, shaking his head.
"You were in a gang of thieves Ess. They must have told you not to do things like if you want to steal things discreetly from a place, but by all means go in and crush the valuables."
He turns to Ash,
"You understand, don't you?"
Then to the others,
"Before we rush in maybe we look first? If only because the floor and ceiling might fall on our heads."
Perception: 8
((Is Ben's detect magic still up? It lasts for 10 minutes and I'm not sure how much time has passed since it has been cast. Probably at least 10 minutes? Either way he is going to give the place a good so-so looking over before heading in.))
Korrik, you nudge the door open with your staff which allows you and the others a chance to take a look in the room without entering it.
Some general things:
- It's a dump. It's damp, and you get a whiff of mold. The woodwork is generally rotten, cobwebs and dust are thick, and rubbish is scattered everywhere. Plaster fallen from the walls and ceiling lies strewn across the floor, along with the shattered remains of vandalized furniture.
- Light shines in through the windows from outside.
- There is a closed door on the east wall.
You all don't see much of anything else other than what you can see on the map. There's a small carpet on the ground, there's rubble and trash in the SE corner as well as some trash scattered about the room. There's a fireplace as well.
((Ben, I think the whole Ash meeting would've taken longer than the 10 minutes. Not much longer... but longer than 10 minutes. Will you cast the spell again?))
I will update the map once we get more movement as you are all still on the deck.
Assuming the party waits, immediately after Ben goes through his ritual spell, he can see a faint aura of a rainbow glitter surrounding that green rug. From your experiences and knowledge of the detect magic spell, you remember that this type of faint rainbow glitter aura signifies magic from the school of illusion.
"There is an illusion over there at the rug. Not sure why someone would bother to make an illusory rug."
He thinks why he would do,
"Unless there is a hole there someone wants us to fall into? I would do that if I wanted to deal with people, ghost or otherwise."
"Go on in Kay and Ess, Ash if you'd like. I will let you know if anything changes with the illusion, otherwise maybe give it some space until we check out the rest of the house."
Ash follows everyone around the house to the decking, and smiles at the back-and-forth between Ess and the others that culminates in Ess kicking the back-door in!
She’ll nod appraisingly as the door bangs open and back, replying to Ben, “Maybe not the way I’d have gone about it, but: ‘if it works it works’!...”, she says smiling to herself.
Then she turns to Ben and agrees, “Yes, if you have anything that can detect those kinds of things, that would be well worth waiting a few more minutes for!...”.
She whiles away the time quick-drawing, and re-holstering, a dagger; before eventually moving on to the same thing but with two; and then practicing silly tricks like juggling them, or balancing one on its tip, on her finger.
When everyone is ready, she will be as surprised and intrigued as the rest of the party about the rug and would agree that someone should throw something on it before anyone goes in...
As the stone arcs through the air she holds her breath in anticipation of what might happen, both daggers drawn...
Ess would say to Ben"Yeah. I appreciate you, buddy."and then smile at him and then Korrik and then laugh.
He is so happy to have found companionship.
He would see Ash and her daggers woahhh she's good he thinks to himself as he takes his sword out and goes in the backyard to practice it a bit. "I'm still getting used to this sucker, guys! And dudes, I don't.... remember much from when I was in the DRG. The treatment really messed up my memory. So don't think I'm this master thief or anything like that. hehehehehehehehehe!"
(LOL, some OG Ess humor right there)
Ess continues his air sparring for the 10 minutes and then returns to the deck to watch Korrik throw the rock...
The moment the rock lands on the rug, an at first faint and transparent, but then crystal clear giant mouth, about 3ft long and 1ft tall appears, floating maybe 4ft up in the air. This mouth is human with thick lips and white teeth. A giant floating mouth.
It speaks in a very loud and malevolent voice: "Welcome, fools — welcome to your deaths!" Booming, fiendish laughter follows the spoken message.
The mouth then vanishes. I think Korrik and Ess definitely saw the mouth. Ben and Ash maybe not. But you all heard the speech. 100%.
((Oh no! I hate to leave it like this for the evening, but I have something else I need to do. I will make a post first thing tomorrow morning. In the meantime - with those rolls, everyone but Korrik is now in a state of semi-fright. They are not completely frightened, however Ben, Ash and Ess will have disadvantage on all ability checks for 1 hour due to this fright they feel from that mouth and the voice. They can repeat the WIS save every 15 minutes, although it will be something that they are not conscious of that they are able to do. ie. we will keep track as best we can every 15 minutes in game time and they can re-roll to see if it is still affecting them. So... the three of them are now pretty scared. It might make sense if the party decided to peace out for now since they are so scared. Who knows. I will be looking forward to seeing what RP comes next!!))
((the 3 of you do NOT have disadvantage on attack rolls... it's just the ability checks.))

"I know we're all excited to start this, but if we can wait 10 minutes I can use a spell to see magical items. Maybe 'ghosts'"
He looks around to see if people are willing. If so he does it then peeks back in.

((Sounds like we're waiting, cause otherwise that's too juicy a nugget of meta knowledge!))
Korrik nods off against a tree while Ben plays a tune for ten minutes.

"I'd rathe throw something at it than follow your plan of us all going in to stand next to it while you keep watch.", Korrik says dryly.
He'll toss rock or something on the rug.
