[OOC: LOL, always love those type of questions from the DM, of course "I" would not touch any of those books, however Kraven, not being all that experienced, would possibly have shoved one of the books out of the way in his search of the desk....Let's see which one.....Oh looking back, the red leather was not on the desk but a podium, so yea Kraven would have probably touched the Blue bound book that was on the desk. <fingers crossed>]
Kraven looks at Jecob quizzically, "How could a magic broom fill a room with water? Mop maybe but a broom?"
To figure the broom out later, Jecob takes it with him. And for good measure, also takes both of the books, so the more scholarly types can read them after the group gets out of this dead fish thing.

Kuatho is fascinated by the painting, he walks up to get a better look at it. How was it modified? Was the green skull painted over the normal face? He tries to see if it looks familiar. “Any luck with those books?” He says.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
(Jecob doesn’t request a rest, but won’t object if others want it.
He grabbed the books, but will hand them over to anyone who wants to study them. He is not a big reader.)

Starting with the blue book, Varlan examines the cover (( does it have a title? )) and then, assuming there is no dire warning on the cover, opens it. He examines the first few pages, looking for anything that indicates what it might be (( does it have a list of contents? )). If he finds nothing that gives a clue there, then he flips to a few random pages in the book trying to assess what it is about.
When you start to read the blue book a fog comes to your mind, make a DC 14 Wis save or take 9 psychic damage and you can't read for the next 24 hours.
If you fail the save then you clearly can't read into the red book. If you succeed or someone else would read it then the spoiler is free game.
The red book is a spell book belonging to someone named Zendrah.
Varlan's eyes narrow and his brow furrows in pain. He stands still, but manages to fight off the mental attack with ease. After a last glance at the book he stows it away, then rubs his temples. "Not for the faint-hearted, that one. Trapped, maybe. Not sure. We'll need to investigate it later."
Turning cautiously to the other book, his eyes light up. "Hah! Arcane secrets." He eagerly devours what he can in a short time. "Now that is something I will enjoy studying!I've been considering a bit of a career change...though, if others have a use for it, I can not stand in the way."
He glances around at the others, reluctantly holding the book out in case anyone else is interested.
(Our wizard has stepped away from DnDBeyond so I don't see anyone else wanting it, if anyone does we can retcon stuff.)
We move on to the next door.
A silent ghost roams the hall. Several sealed tombs inter the many librarians who served as Kalvikodas; acolytes in a former life. We have a group stealth check, so if everyone can make a stealth check that would be great.
There are 2 more doors in this room, one in the center of the south wall, the other in the south west corner of the room, so along with the stealth check I also need to know what way you are going to be going.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
(Used the Game Log. Rolled twice, because I forgot to include the armor disadvantage.)
Jecob Stealth check: 5 (clang, clang, clang...)
