Komos blinks as he wakes up, and looks to his friend, saying, "Well, that was nice. But I'm ready to get out of here. My mind is playing tricks on me in this town..." then noticing the light whispers, "Did you leave a candle on here?"
Bump. What are you going to do about the light coming from outside the room? The door is closed so you have no idea where in the house the light is coming from.
"A candle? No, I have not." Varn whispers back. "Perhaps someone finally appeared in town?"
He jumps off the bed. It's been a comfortable bed, but it's time to move on. "Should we announce our presence?"
"Yes lets." Komos replies, "It would be good to see what is happening here. And a good meal would be nice as well. I also doubt the monsters would be lighting candles eh?"
Varn nods, then approaches the door and tries to open it.
If the door opens, he announces: "Varn Dragonblood has come to greet you, peasants. Reveal yourselves, and I will not judge you for the monsters you unleashes the other day!"
The door opens without any issue though the only thing that responds to Varn's announcement is the faint echo of his own voice as he shouted into the large, seemingly empty house. It becomes clear that the source of the light is not a candle but two lanterns. One of which has been hung on a hook next to the entrance on the first floor which is sending light upstairs by virtue of proximity to the stairs itself. There is a second lantern but that one is not visible from the Party's position. Though it does seem like it might be in the kitchen.
On the second floor, where you are, the hallway that stretches forward opposite to the master bedroom is shrouded in darkness as the houses architecture prevents the lantern light from reaching that part of the hall.
As soon as Varn opened the door though, there seems to be a heavy air of dread about the place. The atmosphere is very oppressive and unnerving though there is no sign of immediate danger.
((I finally leveled up, so gonna add these in. Also, do you remember which infusions I had going? I think Math had one? Does Varn? I might need to reset those as well))
As they walk out of the room and feels the heavy air, he quickly pushes a couple buttons on his device. The first pops out a small metal want with a hole at one end ((arcane firearm)), which he places into his belt. The second button he presses rings a bell similar to the healing one of his cannon, but this time both he and his friend feel stronger as the aid comforts them a bit.

"Someone in the kitchen, perhaps?" Varn suggests before starting to go down the stairs. "At the very least, I don't remember any lanterns being here before, and as you said, I doubt those monsters light candles or lanterns." Varn walks towards the kitchen, and when inside, he looks for signs of life - or traces of someone being here lately.
The light of the lantern coupled with the darkness gives the house a very eerie feeling. The furniture cast long dark shadows on the room bathed in a orange hue from the lantern light. As To reach the kitchen you first had to walk through the dining room. There Varn sees the first signs of someone being there lately. The signs are not subtle. They are very much horrifying and obvious. The whole dining room is covered in fresh blood. There was blood on the furniture, blood on the walls, blood on the floor and blood on the ceiling. At least 2 people had to have been murdered to spray this much blood all over the room. The small amount of the kitchen Varn can see through the dining room is also covered in splashes of blood. On the floor there is a shadow. Someone is standing close to the second lantern. The person or the lantern are not in view due to the walls of the house but the shadow they cast on the floor is clear.

Varn presses his finger to his lips to indicate the need for silence, then marks for Komos to come closer. Meanwhile, he tries to sneak towards the creature quietly, trying to get a peek at what it is. A Human? Another one of those monsters? Something new?
Perfectly silent, Varn approaches the door to the kitchen. He slowly peeks around the corner to see what the source of the shadow is. He sees the lantern casting the light being hung from a hook in the ceiling, close to the cupbaord on the other side of the figure. The figure itself is an elderly halfling covered in blood with short grey hair. He wears a simple green threadbare tunic and brown pants. He has his back toward Varn. The halfling is holding his hands behind his back, gripping a hatchet covered in fresh blood. Surrounding him are the chopped up and bloodied bodies of 4 other halflings, a male and a female in their thirties and two children both around 10-12 years of age. The whole kitchen is covered with their blood. The halfling doesn't seem to notice the kobold.
As his friend tells him what he saw, Komos knows this is not someone he wants to treat with, and quietly prepares his Force Ballista Cannon, setting it on the ground next to him, ready for the order to attack.
The moment Varn's sword collides with the Halfing both their visions go black. They relive a memory. Another strange one that seems like it is theirs but does not seem to be compatible with how their lives have gone up to this point.
The scream of your Kobold family fill their ears as you alone run though the house. It is the same house you were exploring yet in the memory, it feels familiar, like you've lived here for years. You run up the stairs and through the hall. You duck into the second room on your right which seems to be a storage closet. There you hide.
The memory ends and Komos and Varn find themselves standing in the kitchen, ready to attack. However it is pitch black and they can see in the complete darkness thanks only to their Kobold Darkvision. There are no lanterns anymore. There's no bodies or blood stains. All the furniture are where they saw them when they explored the house earlier. The halfling with the axe is nowhere to be seen. It's as if the whole thing never happened but hey clearly remember it all.
So now Varn and Komos stand in the Darkness. What now?
Varn blinks twice. "Hmm? I swear I saw a Halfling holding an axe here. Did you see where he went?"He asks Komos. "Or... I think I remember something... which I did not experience. Maybe I'm just confused, or maybe he ran upstairs?" Varn starts to lead up the stairs, checking if the Halfling happens to be hiding behind the second door on the right.
Just like in his memories, the second door on the right leads to the storage closet. It contains shelves with clothes and bottles of soap. However there is no sign of the halfling here.
Komos blinks as he wakes up, and looks to his friend, saying, "Well, that was nice. But I'm ready to get out of here. My mind is playing tricks on me in this town..." then noticing the light whispers, "Did you leave a candle on here?"

Varn nods, understanding Komos' intentions. He too does not wish to become another blood stain on the walls of this house.
Varn runs forward, pulling his flaming leaf on the way. "Attack!" He calls to Komos as he slashes at the Halfling.
