(OOC: no worries for some reason I had it in my head she was a human.)
I will light a torch. "Alarion while I grant your eyes are more keen then mine, I worry about your lack of armor, if we come around a corner and into melee combat. May I go first?" Gabriel will enter the cave mouth, shield at the ready long sword sheathed, and a torch in his right hand.
The sounds of your footfalls are masked by the stream that runs past you on the left side of the entrance. Up the few natural rock stairs on your right you also hear the noise of multiple animals growling. Farther behind those growls you barely perceive a voice in Common.
”Please ... Mercy ... “, weakly and wounded floats out deep from within the cave to the east.
"We best hurry." Kathrine says, hiking up her long tunic as she jogs to keep up with the others. She follows them towards the sounds of the voice, hoping they are not too late.
(OOC A couple of posts seemed to be delayed, or when I checked, my post hadn't shown up, so I re-posted. Now it's a bit confusing?)
Will the party light a torch?
Alarion can make a d20 roll if he wishes to go forward, to see...
Alarion peers around the corner.
He sees a tunnel that seems to have stairs to the right (east) side.
The stream is to the left of the path, flowing beside it.
(OOC I may be not posting as frequently for the next day or two)

If Kathrine can cast light I will ask her to cast it on my sword. Otherwise I will need to light a torch.
(Kathrine has darkvision so she did not take light, sorry.)
Kathrine will be in the middle of the group as they moves into the cave.

Alarion says "I believe I can create adequate defenses." He flicks his wand and mumbles an incantation, and a shimmering mist appears and coalesces around his body.
The party assembles and moves forward into the cave.
The Paladin leads the way with a flaring torch.
The sounds of something like dog snarls and whines grow louder.
To your left is the stream. You're on a path on the right, and 20' in you see steps rising on the east side of the path.
The animal sounds are coming from the east.
You also hear pitiful moaning coming from the dark cavern to the east.

“Please... Mercy...”
A voice echoes out from the dark cave to the east. The cave that the snarls are also coming from.
And the sound of chains, and something that sounds like metal grinding against stone...

Hearing the calls for mercy Gabriel rushes forward entering the cave to the east, torch held high, ready to toss it to the ground and draw his sword.
Alarion is close behind, his wand at the ready.
"We best hurry." Kathrine says, hiking up her long tunic as she jogs to keep up with the others. She follows them towards the sounds of the voice, hoping they are not too late.
3 wolves run at the torch-wielding Paladin.
They are stopped by the collars around their necks.
The bigger of the wolves, the one in middle, pulls forward against his chain, snarling...

Dealing with the immediate problem Gabriel will in a low stern voice try and calm the wolves.
