‘Bunch of self-important, hypocritical prigs. Renaer’s lot will probably as bad, fair warning, but at least we’ll get to see a play…’ Jeremiah sighs ‘Don’t let me stop you making friends in high places though, if you want. Just don’t let your guard down…’
He sighs again ‘We will need to get some work of some sort to pay for renovations though. Now we have a roof, I’d rather it didn’t leak!’
"I'm not interested in make friends there but you are right, we will need ways to make money." Guardian replies. "I will go back if you think it would help everyone if I did. I don't have to like them to work for them I suppose."
(Feel free to rp anything else before the opera but I'll toss a post up for that so I can go to bed)
When you arrive at the opera, you find yourselves in a grand hall. Your seats are very good. Although you can't understand the words that are spoken, you are able to mostly follow along with the plot of a group of adventuring heroes fighting back against a cult of dragons trying to bring back Tiamat. After more than an hour, intermission begins. It is easy to find your way to private box C. Outside there are a pair of guards watching. As you approach they bow slightly, "The lord is expecting you." Inside you find a large, well dressed man. Seeing you, he stands up, "Ah you must be Jeremiah. Renear has told me much about you. And how could I forget your ally Guardian who so valiantly protected Floon. Your deeds have reached many ears in this city. I asked you here to proposition you aid in protecting those who can't protect themselves from those who would abuse power. We work behind the scenes to gather information and prevent power from falling into the wrong hands. I would ask if these goals align with your own? For your help in these matters, you will find allies across the city and in all walks of life."

’It’s been a long day, so excuse blunt words, please. You know us, but we don’t know you. Protecting those who can’t protect themselves is why I’m doing what I’m doing, but trust is earned, you know? We’ve demonstrated our abilities and intentions, but we don’t really know anything about you, or this group you’re representing.’he pauses to give the man a chance to respond..
He seems to be honest. Thinking back you have heard a little about Mirt being a famous adventurer in his past and a well known philanthropist around the city. "We are the Harpers. You have already met one of our members in Renear. You have also met some of members during your time on the streets Jeremiah (He mentions some other street kids who would give you a hand occasionally). Our current focus in this city is the Zhentarim and the recent bloodbaths they have been causing. You have been witness I hear to some of their atrocities."
Feel free to make a history check on either Mirt or the Harpers
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
History (Harpers): 20
History (Mirt): 9
Jeremiah relaxes, for the first time since the meeting with Laeral. He nods, smiling at Mirt ‘I’ve heard good things about your organisation, I’d be honoured to work with you.’ he looks over to Guardian ‘These are the good guys, G…’
"Mostly helping people out and keeping an eye out. We specialize in information. Occasionally we may ask for you to help deal with a problem that arises or investigate something. In fact, there is a current issue I would ask you to look at. Someone is killing elf and half-elf sailors in the Dock Ward — three dead so far, each one decapitated by a blade in the dead of night. I'd ask if you could take a look and see if you can find out who or what might be doing this."
Jeremiah
The Harpers have been around for a long time and have had a hand on the side of good throughout many different events. Great adventurers, lords, and heroes all have been members of this secret society. You don't remember much about Mirt's past of adventuring but he has been a lord in the city since you can remember and has a reputation for helping others.
Jeremiah nods ‘We can do that. What can you tell us about the victims, or where they were found, or any other information…? Where they known to each other, for example?’
"Not that I know of, maybe some folks down by docks would know?" He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a silver pin of a harp within a crescent moon. Looking to Guardian, "I am afraid I wasn't expecting both of you to join me. Should you want I can have one delivered for you as well?"
"Wonderful. Wonderful. Well I do believe the show is about to resume. If you ever need me, feel free to visit my estate" He turns back to the stage and sits down.
The rest of the show is spectacular.
(I'll move us to the next day tomorrow morning or later tonight if it seems we are ready)
You return to the manor and pass out after a rather long day. The next morning you wake up to find written dust on the bar top, "Closing Time." Your friends are already up making some eggs and cleaning up a bit more. It is a nice relaxing feeling. What would you like to do? You do know that the murders have been happening at night in the dock ward.
(Three things for Jeremiah today. In no particular order... 1 - Find a magic shop for incense (so he can cast Find Familiar)and to sell the half-orc’s spellbook; 2 - Research spirits; 3 - Speak to some of the local businesses that he didn’t cover yesterday to get more background of the former owner, and also what sort of establishment there might be demand for… He’ll also keep touching his shiny new harper pin in amazement!)
Jeremiah, while you are are looking around the nearby shops, one catches your eyes. The front of this bookstore is adorned with a charming sign of a gold dragon curled around a treasure hoard of books and scrolls. Inside, the shop is decorated with beautiful hardwood, and the earthy scent of old books permeates the air. The library fills two floors of this three-story building, and it somehow seems to contain more shelves than the building should be able to hold. Inside a short dragonborn is hurrying about with a large stack of books in his arms. As you enter he looks over, "Oh, hello. Just one momeaahhh." As the pile of books falls over. Sitting up he shakes his head, "Hi sorry about the mess. Welcome to Book Wyrm's Treasure. What can Rishaal do for you?"
‘Hi Rishaal. Nice to meet you. I’m Jeremiah.’ He looks around ‘Nice shop. I’m looking for some incense for a spell, plus I have an old spellbook to sell. Plus I might be interested in any books you have on spirits or hauntings…’
"Oh yes yes. I can do that. A wizard are you? Registered with the mage guild? If you are I can do have some spells I can sell you to transcribe. Let me check on those books for you." The gold dragonborn scurries around the room grabbing things from here or there.
"I don't have much on hauntings. Got a basic book on spirits though." The dragon born climbs a ladder to grab the book and slides down. "Yeah the Watchful Order of Magists and Protectors." He shakes his head, "I can't sell magics to anyone not registered to them. City rules. It is a nominal fee and promising to defend the city in times of need. Mostly meant to keep an eye on us I reckon. Town hall can get you sorted."
