"Yes, I found that to be true with my young charge, Lady Aneera, I had hoped it was something they grew out of." Guardian says, totally serious, following Gorm.
"Who you calling a lady?" Violet grins and winks back at the two as she leads them to the rope down to the back patio.
Hopefully they can all make it down the rope that Violet tried to position out of sight of the window without being seen or heard?
Stealth 27
If she can peek in the window again Violet will whisper "Oops, my bad, those things are way bigger than the things that attacked at the tavern - these have hands and feet and they're not flying. They do have beaks."
"If we want to go in and the door's locked, I may be able to do something about that." she whispers.
‘I think we have to go in, otherwise we won’t know what happened to Mr Geddarm’s friend. Maybe we don’t have to fight these birdmen though, if we talk fast enough?’ Jeremiah shrugs at the last, clearly at a loss for what would be good to say. ‘But then again they’re pretty tough, so mebbe we need to get the drop on them...’
“Good chance they flee out front... but we could just knock to show we’re not hostile?” Gorm says with a shrug, bemused by the idea of breaking in on people who seem to have broken in.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
'Let me try and see what I can find out. You can all be ready to help if I need it.' says Jeremiah, then impulsively tries the door to see if it will open.
(If it opens)
Jeremiah walks into the room, calling out 'Uncle Floon?! Uncle Floon?!' He stops when the bird-men spot him. 'Have you seen my Uncle Floon? I heard he ended up here after drinking too much?'
Violet grins back at her comrades, sharp teeth showing. Her grin fades as she considers the situation.
"So what's the plan?" she whispers. "Jeremiah, were you hoping to look at the dead bodies to see if your 'uncle Floon' is one of them? Since the door was locked, they might find that suspicious now."
"Do you think they're with the Zhentarim or are they invaders? Did they kill all the people in there?"
‘Yeah, I guess you’re right.’ says Jeremiah a little dejected. ‘I think they probably killed the other people. I think we should try and draw them out. If you all hide I can start throwing stones through the window, that should bring some, but not all, over?’
“In my experiences, flocks of birds fly away at the first unexpected noise. Whatever we do, a couple of us should be ready to try to grab and hold one for questioning...” Gorm suggests while trying to picture some of the holds he knows and adapting those to feathered folk...
Jeremiah nods. ‘I’ll start throwing stones then, unless anyone has a better idea..? And we get ready to chase them if it looks like they’re running away?’
"Are we just trying to capture one and letting the rest go or will we be eliminating them?" Guardian asks as he moves his shield into place and reaches for his battle axe.
"This would be tricky to pull off, but what if I rigged a simple rope trap? I could tie one end on the far side of the door about a foot off the ground. I'll hold onto the other end on the other side of the door. If any of them run out the door I'll pull the rope up to trip them?" Violet brainstorms.
"You guys could do ranged attacks from outside or try to get them out in another way. I could hide in the shadows near the window to see if any of them are coming. If they don't come in or flee back into the building I'll follow you guys in trying to stay hidden for a sneak attack."
"If one trips I can pounce and try to knock it out with a sneak attack."
“I’d rather not slaughter them when we don’t even k ow for sure if they belong here. No need to get the guards looking to murder us...” Gorm says in a hushed tone. “Set your rope trap, a couple of you go a ways back to throw stones when ready. Vi and I will stay his here and try to trap the last who comes running. If we miss, we can still have our people in front and behind them...”

(Very different creatures than the tavern, the tavern were stirges (small bat like misquote creatures) these are kenku (humanoid bird people))

The door is locked, if anyone has thieves' tools they can make a dexterity check with them.
"Well Vi, you going to magic it open?" Gorm asks, trying to stay to the shadows but ready to rush in if needed...
"Alright, I'll try to open the lock as quietly as possible." (not the door yet, just the lock)

The lock clicks open with ease. The kenku seem to still be oblivious to your group.
"Like magic!"

“Any objections?”
‘Great idea.’ Jeremiah backs up and finds a couple of good throwing cobbles... ‘Say when...’
"I have no objections." Guardian says as he moves back with Jeremiah, ready with his battle axe should things go south.
