Evo moves to a tree branch safely up in the tree. So you don't need to keep the hover anymore but would need it to get back down.
Ok I am going to jump back into initiative here because this is going to get interesting, and I have a few fun ideas about this with the guides as well.
Azaka is taking this as 'the word' and is going to now engage. She's been desperate for action.
Eku is not going to he happy with this.
I am interested in seeing what the other players will do here as well, so I think it'll be best to jump back in.
I'm going to fast forward the dinos movement so they are in range and then jump back into initiative using previous initiative plus the new beasts which I will reveal once I get everything together. Their initiative is: 8
Phillip will have drawn his bow from up in his tree hideout, but would have only been watching for the dinosaurs taking any interest in any of the party in their places of refuge.
If the dinosaurs don’t take interest in the party, he will relax his bowstring and just watch for now…
((Meta: When Gotur conjures the smaller animals, Phillip will just think he’s feeding the dinosaurs, which he thinks is kind, and cute. He also thinks it’s a good idea tactically. A full dinosaur will not come back and hunt them again for a day or two until they are long gone. Maybe Eku sees it like that too. Maybe not.))
Gotur, Eku looks at you and yells "What are you doing?"
Detect thoughts, specifically the initial surface probe which I think Gotur does not realize that she is casting the spell. She's not interrogating him, she's just asking him a question and reading his surface thoughts as he answers.
She wants to know his intent with this without him knowing.
Azaka says "good decision, Gotur! I'll fly some arrows from afar as well."
Eku drops her spell, hisses at Azaka, and responds to Gotur "but Gotur, this isn't necessary. We don't need backup. We are all safe. This is going to cause unnecessary harm to..."and I think that is all she gets out in this moment as the sequence now begins.
Gotur, just a few moments earlier -> when your vivid display that your plucked leaves produced from your staff settles down, you see 8 giant centipede scuttling about on the jungle floor. I think you might've subconsciously known all along that the shapes that were going to appear were of creatures of this nature. unseen critters, should have checked the tree first
Either way, the fey spirits take shape of these giant arthropods and will obey Gotur's command that he has given which is to attack the allosaurs when they get here, once they can sense them in their blindsight range.
Azaka decides to not shoot first (she'd be able to attack them much earlier than 30 ft) because of Eku hissing at her, but she definitely plans on attacking in the new round 1 after the centipedes do. She's just not attacking first.
New round 1: Alton, Phillip, Gotur, Eku, Centipedes, Allosaurus, Azaka, Evo
Alton has his crossbow ready and Phillip has his bow out as well as they watch on.
(let me know if either of you wanted to do something other than hold/ready your ranged weapons and watch the scene unfold)
Gotur commands the centipedes to attack. (let me know if there's something else you want to do on that turn as you already commanded them pre-combat)
For Eku's turn, she looks towards Alton for a split moment and yells to him "You ok there? Don't worry, we're all safe. Don't shoot the dinosaurs. They will leave us alone once they realize they can't get to us." and she doesn't wait for Alton to answer back as she applies Detect thoughts on him now. <You initially learn the surface thoughts--what is most on its mind in that moment.>
Alton is not aware of the magic.
I will pause here for you to confirm everything above and for Alton to reveal his current surface thoughts to Eku - then I will process the centipedes attacks!
Alton, Phillip, Gotur, Eku, Centipedes, Allosaurus, Azaka, Evo
*Eku noticed P'Lip's bowstring was relaxed after telling him the party is essentially safe, while Alton's crossbow was ready and looked more like he is about to shoot, hence why she used the magic on him.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Eku, what are you talking about? They want to EAT us. That's still VERY much a concern for the four of us! And I don't want to spend hours holed up waiting for them to get bored and leave!"
Insight: 17
The skittering of hundreds of legs sounds as the giant centipedes swarm towards the dinosaurs.
Four of them attack the northern-most dino, pincers clicking.
Giant Centipede Attack: 24 Damage: 7 if it hits, make a DC 11 CON Save or take 6 poison damage. Giant Centipede Attack: 14 Damage: 5 if it hits, make a DC 11 CON Save or take 13 poison damage. Giant Centipede Attack: 16 Damage: 4 if it hits, make a DC 11 CON Save or take 13 poison damage. Giant Centipede Attack: 8 Damage: 5 if it hits, make a DC 11 CON Save or take 13 poison damage.
The remaining four attack the western-most dino.
Giant Centipede Attack: 9 Damage: 3 if it hits, make a DC 11 CON Save or take 17 poison damage. Giant Centipede Attack: 22 Damage: 5 if it hits, make a DC 11 CON Save or take 8 poison damage. Giant Centipede Attack: 6 Damage: 5 if it hits, make a DC 11 CON Save or take 8 poison damage. Giant Centipede Attack: 7 Damage: 5 if it hits, make a DC 11 CON Save or take 12 poison damage.
Phillip just properly stows his bow away on his back, safe in the knowledge that he can draw it, or summon it, in a moments notice anyway.
He also readjusts his footing and handholds, looking very much just like a poison tree frog in his new position, only bigger, and better armed! And dispute his gaudy colours, he seems to blend in surprisingly well with the lush jungle foliage and blossoms around him.
From his treetop position, he watches all of the action unfold. From time to time, he blinks and licks his eyeballs. Or eats a passing fly.
If any of his party (minus their new centipede allies) look to be in danger, he will move to act, otherwise he’ll stay out of it for now.
Alton nods to Eku. “Yep! A little too close for comfort, but I’m fine now.”
The halfling then nods again, lowering his crossbow a slight bit, but looking closely one could tell he still is ready to fire at a moments notice, but hasn’t yet.
<Unsure. Agreement in response to what Eku is saying. Still ready to shoot if necessary, but more calm than before>
Gotur, Eku doesn't continue the discussion any further, but you get a sense that she's likely been in this situation before. While SHE knows the party is completely safe right now and that these dinos don't usually tend to bother with things they can't reach or get at for too long, maybe she isn't quite seeing it from the party's perspective. That, coupled with her truly good nature and seeing the unnecessary (in her eyes) harm now about to be placed on the creatures is what you think is getting to her.
Eku notes Alton's surface thoughts.
Ok, the centipedes attack!! They move forward as described with their pincers clicking away (thanks again for the rolls). Saves are in the roller thread.
Total damage to northern dino:
15 + 4 + 3 + 17 = 39
Total damage to western dino:
3 + 6 = 9
The dinos now start to try and bite the centipedes. Each one of them bites a different one. As per the roller thread, two of them are able to snatch up a centipede and it ends up being very unsatisfying to the dino because the centipede just disappears once the dino bites down into it and it dies. (2 centipedes killed)
Azaka, seeing the centipedes attack the dinos now gets into the action. She says nothing but indeed shoots two arrows at the dino who got the worst from the centipedes attack (northern one) like she said she was going to do. Both arrows hit, and the dino starts to stumble a bit now as its quite hurt from the poison and arrows but is still standing.
Evo is up! Map is updated.
Alton, Phillip, Gotur, Eku, Centipedes, Allosaurus, Azaka, Evo
Evo will watch on from his branch that he hovered to as the dinos and the fey centipedes start to fight. (let me know if you wanted something different and we will retro it!)
Round 2: Alton, Phillip, Gotur, Eku, Centipedes, Allosaurus, Azaka, Evo
Alton is up, then Phillip and Gotur! Let me know if any of you are doing anything else other than watching the action. Gotur may also roll for the centipedes now as well and I'll slot them in after Eku.
Map is updated!
Alton, Phillip, Gotur, Eku, Centipedes, Allosaurus, Azaka, Evo
Alton, P'Lip (Grwobert let me know if you wanted to do something different) and Gotur continue to watch.
Eku then says to just Gotur, telepathically <They will leave us alone. It won't be that long. Trust me, Gotur.> and then immediately she breaks that telepathic link and creates one with Azaka and says <Really? Is that necessary?> and Azaka says back <raaawwwwwrrrrr I haven't hunted live targets in days. I need to stay sharp. I'll hold after these last two shots. Non negotiable.>
The centipedes continue their bites as described. I'll go in order of how it's written ("One each will bite at the weakened ones" = the first 2 rolls)
The allosaurs try and eat up a few more.
Azaka takes two more shots!
All of the results of this is in the spoiler below:
Dino CON saves for the ones that hit
Centipede Attack: 20 Damage: 6 piercing, and DC 11 Con save or 10 poison damage. 4 = FAILED SAVE, TOTAL DAMAGE =16
Centipede Attack: 16 Damage: 4 piercing, and DC 11 Con save or 17 poison damage. 11 = SUCCESS SAVE, TOTAL DAMAGE = 4
Total damage to that dino = 20
Dino Bites
CHOMP: 26 Damage: 26 - KILLED
CHOMP: 15 Damage: 14 - KILLED
CHOMP: 11 Damage: 13 - MISS
CHOMP: 10 Damage: 17 - MISS
Azaka longbow, she shoots the weakest looking one and if killed, on to the next.
Arrow: 19 Damage: 10 - HIT, KILLED
Arrow: 14 Damage: 6 - HIT
So, the dinos take some damage, then chomp up two more, and then Azaka FALLS one of the dinosaurs and sticks another one!
Evo to hold action.
Round 3: Alton, Phillip, Gotur, Eku, Centipedes, Allosaurus, Azaka, Evo
Assuming everyone is still holding action - Gotur you can make the next centipede attacks!
