"Let me have a go." Slink says as she moves forward. She inspects the lock and takes out her tools and runs her hand back and forth over the tools eventually pulling two out. After putting the rest away she maneuvers the picks into the lock and moves them around slowly. "Let's see if my luck holds out." She mutters under her breath. After moving the picks around in several different ways she steps back..."sorry, this one's not gonna give up the goods."

While some of the others are dealing with the locked door, Sofia sent her Unseen Servant to open the door to area 17 before peering inside from the hallway. She did not like the feel of this space and would be extra cautions for the time being.
This dust-choked room contains a slender bed, a nightstand, a small iron stove, a writing desk with a stool, an empty wardrobe, and a rocking chair. A smiling doll in a lacy yellow dress sits in the northern window box, cobwebs draping it like a wedding veil.
"Oh well this is fascinating," Felix says upon his eyes suddenly being able to see in the dark. "Well I may not be able to open the lock, I can see if my abilities let us blast it off. It will be a bit noisy probably." He begins writing in his book and a strange eye opens on his forehead. A blast of greenish black shoots out of it towards the lock.
Oricoril will be trying to stay close with the group... "Well I suppose we haven't been stealthy this entire time, hopefully the owners won't mind us causing a ruckus." He'll then proceed push the busted door open with his warhammer (once it's broken in) and peak his head around the door as it opens slowly Perception: 18
This room contains a bricked-up window flanked by two dusty, wood-framed beds sized for children. Closer to the door is a toy chest with windmills painted on its sides and a dollhouse that’s a perfect replica of the dreary edifice in which you stand. These furnishings are draped in cobwebs. Lying in the middle of the floor are two small skeletons wearing tattered but familiar clothing. The smaller of the two cradles a stuffed doll that you also recognize.
A sense of dread begins to well up inside you all.
Oricoril's eyes widen, mouth ajar as he shuffles over to the skeletons quickly but quietly, he places his weapon and shield on the ground, kneeling at the bedside placing his hand on the tattered clothes of the dead children. "Is this what I think this is? The children we saw, didn't they have these clothes on?" Closing his eyes and grasping his amulet he prays silently as he picks up his warhammer and casts light on the end of his weapon to illuminate the two corpses in a bright but mellow calming white light. "IF these are the children we saw then we have either been tricked or their souls must be put to rest somehow"
Debauchery groans, letting out a long sigh. "Well, this is unfortunate," he mutters. "No good deed goes unpunished it seems." The tiefling steps past Ori and into the room, giving it a sweeping glance. "Alright, kiddos, show yourselves and explain this."

Slink pokes her head in the room after hearing Oricoril and sees the skeletons..."I would go with tricked. My guess is that we weren't meant to leave this creepy place, at least not alive"..she backs out and turns around to make sure nothing is coming up behind them.
This is indeed the skeletal remains of Rose and Thorn, the two children you "met" downstairs. It appears that someone locked them in their room and the two children suffered a horrible fate.
Felix hurries over to them, for the first time since you met him, his slightly haughty exterior falls apart. "Who ever caused this shall pay dearly..." he swears as he looks around the room for the cause of death.
Thorn’s skeleton cradles the boy’s stuffed doll. You can't find anything immediately in the room, and the children's remains don't appear to have any wounds that you'd see. Very strange. Or sinister.

Felix casts Prestidigitation to clean around the two skeletons and cleans a blanket. He then grabs the blanket and carefully lays it over the two. "Seeing as the doll house is a replica of this one, it may tell a way to the basement," he growls. He walks over and takes a look through the doll house, looking for anything out of the ordinary.
Yes. The doll house is an exact replica of the map posted in Discord. You can now see every secret door on the map. (There is a secret door in AREA 18 that leads to a compact staircase that goes all the way down to the basement.) As you peer into the dollhouse, you can feel a very cold chill of death, and the ghosts of Rose and Thorn appear in the room.
"Please do not disturb any of our toys." Rose begs, her brother next to her.
Oricoril will assist in cleaning up the space around the skeletons putting his shield down then bringing his light over to the doll house to help Felix, "What if they were locked in here by their parents? Poisoned perhaps.... we owe it to them to solve this mystery, it's the least we can do. Children should never die young regardless of the circumstances, they are a gift to our world and this truly saddens me."
Debauchery spins at the voice. "Ah, there you are," he says with a smirk. "It seems you forgot to tell us all of your story." For emphasis, he motions to the skeletons with his blade. "So, was it a monster that did this or something else?"

Sofia, who had been in the other room, felt a icy chill go down her spine. Did you feel that just now Zoomi?
It seems we are no longer alone on this floor...the familiar replied to her ominously.
Turning around slowly, Sofia exited the bedroom and came face to ghostly face with the spirits of the dead children. At the sight of them, a strange mixture of emotions flooded through her. On the one hand, she felt and instant pang at sadness for the young lives lost so soon. On the other, the inner researcher in her, finally having a lead on the source of all the odd and unexplainable they'd experienced so far, was rather excited. Despite herself, she thought to Zoomi, Ghosts! I honestly wasn't sure if they truly existed! before kneeling down and asking them as politely as possible, "I'm sorry this has happened to you. Can you tell us what happened to you... and how you turned up as you currently are?"
Slink no longer wonders at the sense of wrongness she couldn't shake. "Creepy and haunted"..she mutters to herself. She was just fine with not actually seeing the ghosts she decided. With an ear cocked to the room to hopefully hear some of the conversation she keeps an eye on their backside, daggers out and ready.
