A smile slowly comes to Thariv's face at Ufeza's words. "That is a fine suggestion,"he says. "Though the lumber will have to be hauled a long, long way!"
Ufeza nods and says, "And gathering a story the entire way. It will have a tale of its own to tell by the time it is joined in the hull or rigged with sails. A seasoned sailor itself."
Zephyra smiles as she hears the others discuss trees and ships, continuing to study the journal, trying to pull any information she can out of the Druid's notes.
There is little sky visible above the trees for Thariv to look at, but the glimpses he catch tells him that the clouds are still there. The trees barely move, suggesting little to no wind to take the clouds away. It would seem that the rain may resume at any minute.
Bonewits journal is difficult to follow. It would seem that the old druid wrote in whatever page he happened to open the thing, mostly in druidic and his own shorthand. Most of it is dedicated to plants and their medicinal uses, there are plenty of diagrams noting how to collect roots and seeds without harming the plant, leaving it ready for a future harvest.
Some pages near the middle catch Zephyra's attention.
The other trees near the Gulthias are growing faster than usual. I would have to keep an eye on them, but I feel as if they were the ones watching me move...
I notice that birds avoid nesting near the great tree, but its leaves and branches look healthy and normal to me. Maybe there is some other force driving them away.
I have met with an elven leader, Nanny Phrex’dia, she is well versed in the druidic arts. I would say that she has already mastered all the nine circles and could teach me so many things if we had the time.
There is no doubt that the trees near the Gulthias are growing too fast. Not three months ago the path was straight as an arrow, now it winds left and right as a snake. There are no birds near it anymore, and very few animals that I can see. I will go back to Aetherglen to gather supplies and continue my investigation.
OOC: if there is nothing else you would like to do, it may be time to start going for the Gulthias tree.
Luther bids farewell to the elves he has been assisting and wanders over to Zephyra (and anyone else present), saying "Are we ready? I'll feel better knowing we have seen off this blight"
Zephyra looks up from study and shares the passages that she's found, translating the words for the others.
Then reflecting, "It seems growth of other trees has increased near the great tree and appear to watch the druid? Animals shunning the trees. Yes we must be on to the Guthias to see what is happening."
She gathers her gear quickly and falls in step with the others, finding herself towards the back of the group failing to having the strong vision that the others have below the tree. "If none of you mind, I'd like to hang on to this journal, there are other notes that I would find very useful to my craft within."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Agreed on all counts!"Thariv says enthusiastically. "I'm sure I could not make heads nor tails of that book."
He readily joins the others in moving on, eager to see what other dangers and wonders they may find on this journey. Like others, he keeps scanning ahead, watching and listening in case any unpleasant surprises are headed their way.
You enter the deep forest with the directions to the tree by Nanny Phrex’dia, following old animal trails and reading ancient Elvish signals written into the branches and tree bark. Your brush with the zombie herd has left you cautious, muffling your armor and weapons and frequently halting as you hear sounds deep in the forest.
The ambient sounds of the forest are getting louder, however, and it is no longer difficult to perceive the angry chittering of the furred animals of the trees. Some of it sounds territorial, while some even seems to be directed specifically at you and your intrusion into the forest. At one short stop, one of you was even pelted with a few acorns from far up in the branches.
Zephyra startled as she is knocked in the side of the head by one of the acorns, looks to the culprit trying to spot the little creatures whispers, "Why you little devil. Where might you be?"
@DMdoes her Wild Shape ability allow her for communication with similar creatures once in their shape. For instance if she changed into a squirrel could she talk to them? DMs can be mixed on this so wanted to check in.
Zephyra only gets a glimpse of an animal scampering away. Maybe as big as a possum. The noise gets louder as you go deeper into the heart of the forest, and soon you notice that there are multiple animals running from one tree to the next. They try to stay out of sight, but their numbers make it almost impossible as they jump around.
A specially furry critter hisses at you from a nearby sycamore branch, baring its small incisors and puffing its tail, before running back and hiding among the foliage.
@Jynne I'm going to say that while wild shaped you would have advantage on any animal handling checks for the same type of animal, but not get the same benefits as speak with animals.
Zephyra will stay with the group continuing on but watching the creatures around for any increase in aggression beyond numbers but concerned about their numbers, deciding not to change in case the environment would have the same effect on her in the new shape.
@DM Thank you. Does the group feel anything different as they approach the tree?

Luther tries to ignore the acorns - they are harmless and might even be a distraction technique. Instead he sticks to the path and continues to scan for signs of danger ahead and to the flanks.
Zephyra smiles at Ufeza's analogy thinking of how true that may be and a possible better prospective for the Sailor. (or was that someone else?)
A smile slowly comes to Thariv's face at Ufeza's words. "That is a fine suggestion," he says. "Though the lumber will have to be hauled a long, long way!"
(Yes, Thariv is the sailor of the bunch.)

Blossom looks up from his work, then puts his things back in his backpack and rises to his feet. “Rested, and ready.”
Ufeza nods and situates his belongings, "Yes, let's be on the move!"

"You're the one that can read it Zephyra, it makes sense to me that you be the one to hold it" says Luther.
As the party heads off, he keeps his longbow at the ready and scans the area for danger - traps and ambushes.

"I agree with Luther, and I trust you to be able to identify useful information for us. Keep it well!"

Blossom shrugs as acorns whistle past his head. “I’d be more worried about larger animals, with antlers and tusks…”

Ufeza hisses back at the critter, baring his teeth and puffing up his fur in response.
