You recognise the creature as a Peryton, a flying monster that is driven by instict to devour the heart of a human (or as is evident, any humanoid) as part life cycle. These creatures fly alone or in pairs are are relentless in their attack on their chosen prey.
„I agree, let‘s get back to sleep. It would be to much trouble to search a new campsite now in the middle of the night... Whos turn is it for the watch? You could start to skin and butcher the corpses, although i don‘t know how useful this flying one is though.“ Gara adds, while Efeu already starts to scan the surounding again.
"So, we ready to get moving again?" Nasaar asks as he has his canon climb back onto his shoulder again. He verifies his heavy crossbow is ready to go, then glances to the others for someone to take the lead.
The guards glance at the badge before lowring their weapons.
"Auxilia, huh. You are permitted in. We can use some manpower. Report to the centurion, he will assign you your task."
Inside the complex you see a network of tunnels. The major tunnels seem to follow the layout of the legion camp: long straight tunnels, reinforced by stone where possible. The third dimension allows the defenders to fire from all directions at any attacker trying to break in. Narrow arrowslits line both the floor and the ceiling.

Nasaar sighs and nods, pulling out the badge they were given. He stuffs it back almost at once, as soon as the guard has looked it over.
The guards glance at the badge before lowring their weapons.
