Is it possible to rework an artefact like an armor or a shield with color to change the optical design? Like a blacksmith who burnishes an armor? Or will this destroy the magic on that items?

Generally, there is no issue (or cost) for cosmetic alterations of gear (or spells).

Basically, ask the DM if they allow it.
