I'm trying to make a background for a doctor that has Medicine as one of the skills, that keeps within the create you own rules in the PHB and would like some community input.
This person has always had a knack for for healing others, they were raised by the church after being left as an infant ("I'm too poor to give this child a good life" note in the wicker basket) and this church's holy texts are written in Celestial. Unknown to them self's and those of their community this PC is actually an Aasimar hence why I need this church to preach in Celestial to hide that. Plus everyone one can see in the dark can't they? It just make most very clumsy and I have extremely steady hands, makes me a good healer right?
When this PC takes up the adventuring life they will be a Devotion Paladin and will eventually be visited by a Celestial and gain a warlock Celestial Patron.
The only must is the Medicine skill so any suggestions from taking into account their entire history to none of it what so ever i.e. no religious intent what so ever and everything in between. Though I will say my preference is the latter so I could maybe use this on a non-religious class
Though that was going to be part of their gear there is no Healer's Kit proficiency. IIRC The Healer's Kit allows you to stabilize the dying without the medicine check. What feature would you look at? Also which equipment kit?
I did spot that actually and it is really good but I wanted to make it RAR/Adventure League friendly.
FYI I don't know which optional rules are allowed in AL as it's says "If you can’t find a feature that matches your desired background, work with your DM to create one." It seems a bit much just for a drop in game.
But hey if there are any more Homebrew/UA backgrounds you can think of that fit shout 'em out.

Cheers Mike
Healer's kit. Depending on the world, either herbalism kit or a language for the other one. Then you need a second skill and a feature.

I will point out that there's a "Doctor" background in Homebrew Backgrounds already, and it seems pretty nice. :)
