Is there a good official replacement of The Draconomicon for 5e? I'm especially interested in the Dragons as Player Characters section, because I really like dragons and would like to play as one. I found a good homebrew rule set for it, but if there is something official it will probably will be balanced better.
I know about Fizban's Treasury of Dragons but I don't know if it has a Dragons as Player Characters section, an I don't want to buy it just to may get disappointed.
Nothing about playing a dragon thus far (and I wouldn't hold my breath since so far 5e has made no indication of having strong races count as player levels like 3.5 did).
Fizban's is the closest thing to a draconomicon as far as lore, lairs, items, etc goes. It even has better dragonborn options that could be reflavored as half dragons if your interested.
Young White Dragons have a CR of 6, I personally think they are on par with a Character of Level 9.
Fly, Swim, Burrow, Cold breath doing 10d8, Blindsight, Icewalk and 3 attacks at +7. Those are a lot of always on third level or higher abilities.
If we assume that evenly matched/on par characters and monsters have a roughly 50/50 win lose ratio, and a 50% death chance is a "deadly" encounter.
Then using the encounter builder guidelines in the DMG a young white dragon is not quite a deadly encounter for a single level 11 PC, so would be roughly level 10 by this criteria.
I think this roughly matches XGtE encounter building which puts cr6 as a medium encounter for a level 12 1 on 1 (the XGtE chart is harder to adjust for single PCs).

Fizban's definitely doesn't have anything about dragons as player characters. There's nothing official that has those rules for 5e.
I think if the whole party is playing dragons, it's probably going to be fine. Very different, but fine.

As others have said there has been nothing officially published regarding playing as a dragon.
DnDBeyond did publish a free adventure where the party plays as a group of Young White Dragons hunting a Crystal Dragon. They published it in the run up to the release of Fizban's here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/1086-free-d-d-adventure-fight-as-dragons-and-explore-a
Note though, that Young white dragon is the entire player stat block, not just the race.
