Why does the character sheet only use dexterity for dagger? I thought dex was for the thrown property.
"Ability Modifier. The ability modifier used for a melee weapon attack is Strength, and the ability modifier used for a ranged weapon attack is Dexterity. Weapons that have the finesse or thrown property break this rule."
So, when my Druid, with a str mod of 0, gets a +4 to stab, because of the thrown property of a dagger, even though it's not being thrown.
Most like as an error in the application of the finesse property because in theory because the dagger is a finesse thrown melee weapon, it's a choice of Dexterity or Strenght for melee and ranged attacks.
Wielding a weapon with the finesse property; If your strength mod is zero, and your dex mod is anything higher, it should default to the dex mod + proficiency bonus + any other applicable bonus. That doesn't seem like an error, even not knowing your dex mod or any other applicable bonuses, it seems like it should be correct.
EDIT: I just tested this on a character by changing stats on str and dex, the dagger compensated each time and included all applicable bonuses.
Right it's an error sin application because DDB makes the choice at your place, most likely based on the better of the two but the rules don't proceed that way, it offer a choice. Normally an attack with a melee or ranged weapon is;
Melee Weapon Attack: Strenght
Ranged Weapon Attack: Dexterity
Finesse Melee Weapon Attack: Strenght or Dexterity
Finesse Ranged Weapon Attack: Strenght or Dexterity
Thrown Melee Weapon Attack: Strenght
Thrown Ranged Weapon Attack: Same as melee attack
Thrown Finesse Melee Weapon Attack: Strenght or Dexterity
Thrown Finesse Ranged Weapon Attack: Same as melee attack

And as a player I'd always choose the higher bonus. Why would you pick a worse number?
Most would not expect in rare instance where Strenght must be used to gain the benefit of a feature, such as Rage's damage bonus.
If you're a Barbarian using a dagger, your Dex score is higher than your Str score, and you're still trying to attack with Str to get the Rage damage bonus... I have questions :)

Often overlooked but I have had this discussion multiple times; Sneak Attack only requires the use of a finesse or ranged weapon, not Dexterity as the modifier. That is a secure method to obtaining sneak attack while also using strength. Rage, on the other hand, must use Strength.

Not necessarily you may have been weaponless or prefer to use magical dagger against certain creatures.
