If you cast wish and use any other options then replecating a spell of 8th level and lower, you are hit with some debuffs for the following days and run the risk of losing the ability to cast wish.
However, if you where to use an item, spell scroll, divine intervention or any other ability or feature to cast wish, could you still lose the ability to cast wish?
If you'r a 17+ level wizard and know the spell wish. And you also have a ring of 3 wishes or spell scroll of wish, and cast the spell through any of those choosing an other effect then replicating spells. Would you then have the risk of losing the ability to cast wish yourself with your own spell slot?
And how does it work with divine intervention, it is really strong to use wish and not suffer the effect of losing wish, but it would be really stupid if you would just lose your level 20 ability.
The effect occur if you cast Wish. In the event that you aren't the caster but benefit from the effect of one, then i suppose you wouldn't endure the stress. So it would depend on the wording of the game features in question.
The level 20 version of Divine Intervention for the 2024 Cleric truly leans into the idea of your Cleric being your god’s most special princess. Now your Cleric can use their Divine Intervention to cast the Wish spell.
The features of the Wish spell are largely similar in the 2024 Player’s Handbook, so the complications that can result from using it and the toll that it takes on the caster’s body and health really fit the mold of the impact on a mortal Cleric who is fully opening themselves up to the full might of their god’s power. After using Divine Intervention to cast Wish, you'll need to wait 2d4 Long Rests before using the feature again.

Thanks it does.
Hmm RAW I also believe that as a cleric you would lose the ability to use wish using devine intervention, however. I also believe that it would be unfun as a player.
As for magic items I find it kinda undefined and is I guess magic item dependend.
In this case I guess me as dm or as player would just have to discus what is appropriate course of action.
What you think is fun is what you think is fun. But personally, I would find it unfun if a player can just cast Wish as much as they want. What are the stakes in the game anymore if someone can just cast Wish to do whatever they want whenever they want?

That's true. For example, there is an interesting Magic Item, Daern’s Instant Fortress, with this wording:
Only a Wish spell can repair the tower (this use of the spell counts as replicating a spell of level 8 or lower). Each casting of Wish causes the tower to regain all its Hit Points.

Agreed. And think of it this way, the cleric gets to cast wish andanother 9th level spell on the same day, not every day, but still. Seems reasonable to rein in the wish a bit.

I'd say, RAW, yes so you will suffer stress of casting Wish for both cases.
As for Magic Items, per this rule, you're casting the spell:
The effect occur if you cast Wish. In the event that you aren't the caster but benefit from the effect of one, then i suppose you wouldn't endure the stress. So it would depend on the wording of the game features in question.
EDIT For Greater Divine Intervention you do cast Wish so you would endure the stress.
If it's useful, we had this in the pre-release article 2024 Cleric vs. 2014 Cleric: What’s New
Thanks it does.

In my previous answer, I was just referring to the examples you provided: Ring of Three Wishes and Spell Scroll.
Always welcome!

An example of a game feature that would avoid that is an Efreeti Bottle where the efreeti can cast Wish once for you.
Other than that, i can't think of anything else that would at this moment.
