It states that you can use a Hit Dice to cast your spell at a higher level. Does this mean that you could cast the spell higher than you would normally be able to?
I.E. if you are level 1 could you use your only HD to fire off a level 2 spell?
As written, the Feat allows you to increase the level of a spell you cast by 1. It doesn't have any other prerequisites (other than the Hit Die you need to expend), so yes, you would be able to cast a Magic Missile as a 2nd level spell with a 1st level character.
Note, it doesn't allow you to learn or cast higher level spells, just increase the level of a spell you can already cast by 1 as if you had used a spell slot one level higher. So, it's only relevant to spells that have a different effect (usually more dice) when cast at a higher level (like the aforementioned Magic Missile.
I'm curious if it means increasing the 1st level spell you chose or any spell that you're able to cast. If it only allows a character to cast their 1st level chosen spell at 2nd level it would be terrible as you level up.
You can spend hit dice to increase the level of the spell your Aberrant Dragonmark uses. You also roll all those hit dice you use and take that much damage.
I'm suddenly imagining someone having Healing Word as their Aberrant Dragonmark... theme it as a life transference if you up the level.
My question is can you pump more than one HD at a time into it? E.g. 4th lv player selects the aberrant dragonmark as their feat. They select magic missile as their 1st lv spell. Can they pump 4 HD into it, and cast it as a 5th lv. Spell. It would be a huge risk reward, because luck of dice, but could be super powerful at finishing someone off. Thoughts?
It says you can use "one of your hit dice" so I read it as only letting that one spell be cast as level 2. This is weak at higher levels, but compares pretty favorably to magic initiate that only lets you cast it at first level and doesn't boost your Con. I imagine there will be a greater aberrent dragonmark feat created later that will let you boost it further.
It definitely fades away as you level up. But as a level 1 feat that is pretty strong. Essentially you're level 1 casting at as a level 3 at the risk of blasting yourself to death hahah
Doesn't look like the feat works that way in the new book. Which kinda stinks. I don't think a nation would quake in fear at a once per long rest 1st level spell.

The Feat says "In addition, choose a 1st-level spell from the sorcerer spell list.", so you can't learn a spell of higher level.
