Psionic blades end up being worse than magic weapons eventually.
Every alternate attack feature ends up being worse than magic weapons eventually. That's what happens when something is balanced as a baseline feature.
Sure, but while I don't think they execute it perfectly pact of the blade at least gives a option to integrate magic weapons into the feature. Other similar features should have ways to do the same, heck even just add to the DMG specific magic items that boost psychic blades. Vicious bracers, your psychic blades have the vicious enchantment not combinable with other items that enhance psychic blades. And given that they have now added a chart for how many magic items you should have by certain levels i don't think the baseline feature argument is as valid as it was in 2014.

The validity hasn't changed. Every encounter is balanced around not having magic weapons, or even any kind magic items. That means that a Soul Knife will not fall behind on-level encounters even if they will have a harder time getting ahead of them, at least offensively. However, the damage typing will be more likely to be advantageous or neutral compared to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing (assuming any legacy monsters with immunity to nonmagical B, S, or P weapons are converted to resistance to those damage types).
That said, I do hope they get something like the Wraps of Unarmed Power or Dragonhide Belt.
"Resistance to non-magical damage" has basically been replaced by resistance to bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing. And the ability to get past that resistance is now "use one of the other damage types." Commonly, this is Force now (though it can be any of the other ones) --- for example, Shillelagh lets you do Force damage, and True Strike does Radiant damage, etc.
The only thing that's really lost is there being a "default" way around these resistances by using generic +1/+2/+3 weapons. Which makes said weapons feel less required to progress. I think they are also making those resistances more rare, so as to "punish" martial characters a little less.
I was assuming the legacy monsters that haven't been updated follow the same pattern.

My houserulings.
It seems they followed a different path:
- Question about monster ressitance in 2024
- Opinions about removal of resistances and immunities from 2024 Monster Manual?
From the second thread. This is what I mean:
