In 5.5, would you allow a human to pick the Prodigy Feat from Xanathar at Lev 1?
It has no 4th level prerequisite nor it gives +1 to an Ability like Skill Expert does, so it seems reasonable to me, but I'd like to hear people's thoughts on the subject.
It's not allowed under RAW since it's not an Origin Feat, and I wouldn't allow it as a house rule because it is very similar to Skill Expert, which is also not an Origin Feat and as you point out has a level 4+ prerequisite.

It doesn't have a 4+ prerequisite. It has a species prerequisite though.
Prodigy is generally a worse Skill Expert since it has no ASI in exchange for a tool proficiency and a language, but much better than Skilled (Origin Feat). It's too good to be an Origin feat.

I was saying Skill Expert has a level 4+ prerequisite.

I mean, Prodigy is a 2014 feat and Origin Feats did not exist in 5e, they were added in 5.5. So there is no way the rules could state it was an Origin Feat.
My reasoning for it being eligible as an Origin Feat is that it is clearly less powerful then Skill Expert (as it does not offer an ASI) and it is only available to humans (as Half Orcs and Half Elves have been removed).
Would it be a powerful Origin Feat? Sure, but so are Lucky and Musician. Origin feats are not all at the same level.
Also it kinda of make sense thematically for a character to be a prodigy from the start. You do not become a prodigy, you are one or you are not.

Skilled is marked with 3 out of 4 stars, Prodigy just with 2 out of 4.
Under Prodigy it is written:
Introduced in Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Prodigy is a racial feat available only to Humans, Half-Elves, and Half-Orcs. Prodigy is very similar to Skill Expert in that it grants a Skill and an Expertise. Unlike Skill Expert, Prodigy is not a hybrid feat, instead granting both a Tool and a Language. Compared to Skill Expert, it’s not great, but compared to Skilled, it’s more on par.

Yes, I understand your reasoning. As I said, I don't agree, because I think it's too similar to Skill Expert.
But also Tough and Boon of Fortitude are similar no? Both give +40 hp at level 20. Very similar result, but 1 gives no ASI, while the other get's you past 20 in a ability. You can get both and that's the beauty of it. By that reasoning Tough should not be an origin feat because it is too similar to Boon of Fortitude.

More on par is not on par, especially when 5.5 shifted the narrative on some of the feats.
Skilled gives you 3 skills or tools.
Prodigy gives you 1 skill, 1 tool, and 1 language plus an expertise.
Skill Expert gives you an ASI, 1 skill, and an expertise.
1 skill, 1 tool, and 1 language, and expertise is a lot close to Skill Expert. The issue in updating it is, as is, it is worse than Skill Expert, adding an ASI makes it hands down better than Skill Expert, and making it an Origin Feat without an ASI, makes it better than Skilled. It's too good for an Origin feat and doesn't update well to the new rules.

I get the similarity argument of course.

Thanks. Got it :)
IMO, this is an "ask your DM" thing, but under the 2024 rules and as a level 1 character, RAW I agree with the next explanation:
