So another what is scenario of mine. So I'm wondering, say have a Black Scaled Dragon Born fighting some monster. Lets say the monster has and acid spray attack would force you to make a Dex saving roll of DC 15, where failure is 10D6 of damage or half on successful dex save. Lets say for simplicty that the damage of the attack is rolled to max 60. The Dragonborn rolls a Nat 20, thus only get hit with only 30 acid damage, but since he is Black Scales, which are resistant to acid damage, that gets cut in half to 15, correct?
If a creature or an object has resistance to a damage type, damage of that type is halved against it.
It's as simple as that. If the character has resistance to acid damage and is hit by some acid damage, then they only take half of what they would take otherwise.
In your example, yes - they would take 15 damage if they made their save and 30 if they didn't.
