You could also use it with whip or polearm master to force an approaching enemy to choose between take more damage or stopping 10ft away.
Using booming blade with any weapon still only let you melee attack a creature within 5 feet of you regardless of your reach with it.
The context here is that yall were last discussing whether or not the spell should have been range "reach". If it had, see bubba's comment.

I'm probably laughing.
It is apparently so hard to program Aberrant Mind and Clockwork Soul spell-swapping into dndbeyond they had to remake the game without it rather than implement it.
So. I haven't taken the time to read through this entire thing because that would be a major time drain. However, most of the contention seems to be on whether or not the target of the opportunity attack with booming blade can immediately stop after the opportunity attack to avoid moving and taking the extra damage. Here's my two cents on that:
I ask you to consider the following situation. There is a monster of some sort that is fighting two wizards that are within 5 feet of it. The monster only gets one attack per turn and doesn't have any legendary actions or anything, however, if it does hit a wizard with an attack, the wizard will die. One wizard, Aaron has shield prepared, and one, Bob, doesn't. If both wizards are alive and take their turns to cast spells on it, they will kill it. The monster attacks Aaron with shield prepared and hits, but Aaron uses his reaction to cast shield, causing the attack to miss. The monster, after seeing that Aaron cast shield, can't change its mind and be like "oh, I 'm not actually attacking Aaron, I'm actually attacking Bob". Anyways, since it missed and both wizards lived, the wizards manage to kill it and win.
What this situation illustrates is that you can't decide to not do whatever triggered a reaction just because the reaction changed the situation (except when those circumstances make it impossible, such as if your movement is reduced to zero, as by the sentinel feat, or if say, a wizard had prepared the hold monster spell as a readied spell to be cast on a creature about to attack them, and they fail the saving throw, so the creature that was about to attack literally can't attack now). You can't have a monster decide the be like "oh no, I'm actually going to attack this other guy because I'm going to miss because my initial target cast shield", I submit that, similarly, a monster can't decide to not move just because they were hit with an opportunity attack that covered them with booming energy.

I stand corrected.

How do I add Booming Blade to my characters spell list?
