I trying to create a ghostwise ranger that rides a giant owl as a mount. However, I'm having trouble finding rules on mounted archery/two handed weapons usage in 5e. That leads to me believe that there is really no restrictions. Please confirm or deny this and leave sources. Thank you in advance for your help!
The mounted combat rules don't care about what weapons you're using. The only weapon that behaves differently while mounted is the lance, which can be used one-handed on a mount but requires two hands otherwise.
That makes absolutely no sense. There are thousands of instances of mounted archers through out history. Literally galloping and attacking with bows, and throwing spears, from horseback. Like thousands.
My DM made a rule that I can’t move and attack on my mount at the same time. So you might want to ask your DM.
the rules allow you to break up your move and insert attacks, actions, bonus actions, etc. Are they saying you can't attack if you move your mount on that turn, or just that you can't attack while actually moving (because visually, moving 20 feet, stopping, attacking, and then moving 20 feet again is broken up in the game mechanics, but isn't really broken up in the visual of the turn)

The only thing that I’ve seen is Mounted Combatant which doesn’t mention using your hands or not using them.

Haven’t used this account in forever. Still a big fan of crawling claws.

Two years later, I doubt they’re saying anything!

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
