So I had this character concept for a Changeling druid, and I noticed that the feature which allows the changeling to change, only works within the creature's basic shape (Can't turn into four-legged creature if you're normally two-legged, can't grow wings if you don't have them normally, etc.). I also saw under the druid class that while wildshaping, you couldn't cast spells and such, but other features could be used. My question is, can a changeling druid change its appearance while wildshaping, as long as it's within the basic shape of the wildshape?
If I was your DM I would say no, because when you do wildshape you are using a limited factor of your class you can only which it be either twice or using spell slots with circle of the Moon. If you were to Wild shape and use your racial feature to "shape-shift" again (which already seems off because you are no longer a changeling you're an animal) giving you technically infinite wild shape potential which is pretty game-breaking and available at 20th level druid.
Or if I'm completely overanalyzing and you just mean to be a giant badger with pink polkadots, then I'd see no issue with it. But I'd think your wild shape would already give you that capability.
I get what you're saying, and yes that would be game-breaking, but stats wouldn't change at all, and you couldn't change too much away from the original shape of the animal. Anyways, thanks for clarifying that :)

I think asking the DM is the best course of action. Wildshape rules say that you retain racial features and can use them if you are physically able to. I don’t know the wording on the shifter ability, but I would say that it depends more on that wording there than a gut feeling of what is OP.
The wording of wild shape is actually pretty lenient on what it allows in terms of racial features.

Don't think it's specifically covered by the written rules, so it's up to the dm. For what it's worth I would probably allow it.
Alright, thank you.

Either way ask your DM.
