Hey guys I'm a relatively new DM and I was wondering if someone could explain what the difficulty rating of 1/8 means for the Bandit enemy. Is this meant to scale for each subsequent Bandit added to the encounter or is there another meaning I'm not getting. I'd appreciate any answers, thanks.

Yes. Following the Building Encounter table, it means that 4 Bandits is just a medium encounter for a party of four 1st level characters.

Unearthed Arcana have a simpler Encounter Builder, the one in the book isn't all that great to follow.
