First off, I am typing on my phone so sorry for any grammatical mistakes.
I'm the DM of a homebrew game set in a sci-fi world loosely based off Mass Effect, and currently a have a multiclassing player. Currently he sits at level 12, with his first 2 levels in fighter, and 10 levels in War Magic Wizard. He is looking to multiclass back into fighter to choose an archetype type, and he is looking at eldritch knight so he can continue gaining more spell slots and more spells.
The question I need help answering is, with the multiclass, would he still be limited to the eldritch knight restriction of only learning abjuration or evocation spells at future levels?
Ideally he wishes to stay in fighter up till he can gain an extra attack on an action, so he'll be staying in a fighter level up till 15th level.
Only the spells he learns as an eldritch knight have these restrictions. His wizard spellbook is not restricted in this way.
And please be aware (some aren't) that while multiclassing may get him spell slots of a higher level, the level of spells he can learn and prepare are dependant on the individual class levels, not his spell slot levels.
Thank you all for the clarification. I was aware of the preparations of multiclassed spells, having had to teach the player of it.
Ideally he is looking at spells to maintain concentration to gain the boost to AC, while being a strong melee fighter as well. Currently before the influence from the Durable Magic trait, he sits at a 21 AC (full plate, shield, and defense fighting style). He is planning to stay a fighter now till he gets the extra attack.
If you wanted to talk to him about changing either evocation or abjuration to another type of magic, then I'd say that would be fair game, but he'd have to stick to the types of magic that you work out with him while taking fighter levels. Just remember that his caster level grows slower with ek. A wizard 3/ek 3 would be a 4th level caster, not a 6th level. (3 levels for wizard and 1 for 3 levels of ek). Because he's likely to have a high intelligence due to wizard, the normal limitations that an ek would have aren't as critical. The limited number of abjuration spells for lower levels will likely require some evocation spells or whatever other school of magic you allow.

Thank you for your time.
I'd say that only the spells he choose as he take levels as an Eldritch Knight would/should be restricted to Abjuration and Evocation.
And if he take lvl in the War Mage, then those sould not be restricted, but i honestly ain't sure of it.
