I've got a big question here, a big question that's somewhat consuming me because i want to make a crafter rogue and my DM seems to be inclined to allow the Xanathar's guide to everything downtime crafting activity.
However, as i read the rules, i have a question. It shows as follows.
"To determine how may workweeks it takes to craft an item, divide its gold piece cost by 50. A character can complete multiple items in a workweek if the item's combined cost is 50 gp or lower". (Xanathar's guide to everything page 125)
So my question here is...is this telling me that i have to divide the cost of one item and then, if the result of the operation is lower that 50 gp i can do it in a week? For example: Heavy armor; 1500 GP/50 = 30, so i can make it in a week of downtime activity for 750 gp in raw materials.
Or...is the system telling me that the result of that division is the number of weeks it takes to me to make that item? For example: Heavy armor; 1500 G/50 =30 WEEKS.
I'm very confused because, you see, if we follow the rules as the second example, this system would allow a character to make 2 flasks of acid in one week of work, (50 gp/50=1 week) however, in this same book, we can find that a character with proficiency in alchemy tools can make one flask of acid for every long rest, so, he can make 7 flasks in one week if he or she takes the days separated and not together as a downtime activity...
It would seem that crafting is a system that has not been updated much from older editions where spending downtime was much more important. I am also curious how this works, because I have put together a Warforged Envoy model with integrated Smith's Tools, so that he's literally a walking forge/smelter. But as I read more into how the crafting of items works.... I'm starting to wonder if it's even relevant.
Crafting can be done a little at a time. If your party does have a town or home base they frequently return to, you can craft something incrementally.
Also, having help reduces the time equal to the number of helpers. 1 assistant can turn 30 weeks into 15 weeks, 2 assistants turn it into 10 weeks (hired assistants' wages would be about 2 GP per day, so 10 GP per week, or 150-200 extra GP cost).
Hi lads, nice to meet you all!!

HELP ME PLEASE!!!
thanks in advance.

No. It is saying it takes 1 week per 50 GP cost of the item. If the item costs less than 50 GP, it can be done in less than a week.
So plate would take 30 weeks and 750 GP of material.
As far as the bit with the vial of acid goes, crafting as a downtime is a general rule and specific rules trump general rules.
:(
Ok then...there goes my dream of making a crafter, my group will never let me stay too much in a single place just to let me craft.
Shame, sorrow, my heart is in pain.
Ty for your fast reply
