With warcaster u get to cast oppertunity spells but I know id get dissadvantage on spells at 5ft but im interested in if ill be at dissadvantage Using a reach weapon to active the opportunity attack 10 ft that i lack profeciency with it even tho im using a spell instead of the actual weapon
Proficiency with the weapon in question has no bearing on the Reach property, which is all that determines your range for opportunity attack. If you're holding a weapon with the Reach property, your range for determining when a foe leaves your reach is 10ft. Warcaster only allows you to substitute a spell for the attack when the opportunity attack is activated. So if there's nobody else nearby, your ranged spell will go off without disadvantage when a hostile leaves your 10ft reach.
You could use the crossbow expert feat to not worry about the disadvantage, but 2/3 of the feat would mean nothing to you if you don't use crossbows. Also, spells that use a melee attack roll don't get disadvantage. I'm not sure how the disadvantage on saving rolls thing works (advantage to the target to make the saving roll, doesn't count as disadvantage?)
That's what I thought, but comments on a build I had on here had brought up the topic. I'm guessing that they were in the same boat that I was in the the spell and didn't realize it forced a saving throw instead of having an attack roll. I've recently discovered that spell forced a saving throw and only put that knowledge in the context of the spell when making the reply without access to the rules to verify.

There is no penalty for using saving throw spells in close combat.
